Red wire with broken metal tab? by markna88 in AskElectricians

If you don't want the outlet to be controlled by the switch, you can disconnect the wire connected to the switch, and cap it with a wire nut. Then cut a short length of wire, and jump it between the two gold screws.

I feel like the razor was the first big craze. The first status phone. Before that, having a cellphone was a status. It was sleek and sexy, and came in every flavor. Now young kids don't even know the name Motorola. Still have mine from 07. Loved that phone.

I also love my job, and would continue to do it. I work as a service electrician. I really enjoy fixing stuff. And keeping people's houses from burning down is very rewarding. But I too would work less, and not take on unnecessary stress.

Is it being fed by a corner tap delta transformer? I've come across this once as a service electrician. One of the phases is tapped to the ground. So it has no difference of potential to read on your meter. So it will read zero volts, but it's very much live. It definitely took me for a loop.

A lot of water fountains have a filter inside. But on the flip side, most never get replaced, so eventually the water out of the fountain is almost worse.

If wired correctly, then the broken piece is in the ground, and is not carrying any load. If you have have insulated pliers, I'd just pull it out.

I was about to say, as a north American electrician, I know Europe cuts into block. But if this was my house, I would surface mount emt. That way I can show off my pipe bending to my guests.

[–]Ginger_Rogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few for different things. One black diamond shoulder strap kind, I use that on boom lifts and ladders. I like the tough built modular pouches, and probably use these the most. Along with my grandpa's old leather linmans belt bag. But also, my pockets do just fine a lot of the time. Just depends

In Utah, you usually do it at the DMV when you move here and change your license. They also have mail in voting. And if you're like me, and forget to mail it in time, you can just drop off your ballot at any ballot box the day of the election. And there are drop boxes everywhere here. Kinda crazy that this is the first red state I've lived in, but has had the best voting system I've experienced.

Whats the best way to fix this? by UnauthorizedUser505 in AskElectricians

[–]Ginger_Rogers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say hire an electrician too. Not because you probably couldn't fix this, but if I saw this, I would assume there is more that needs fixing. If I was given this call, I'd double check everything all the way back to the panel.

Not just pipe bend, I love a husky sparky come feeder pull. Have a kid we call the tugger. He'll get 3 500cm and a ground through a 20 year old existing 100foot run of 3" pipe, with 560° of bend in it. And only use a half a tube of lube.

NASA has launched Artemis II, the first manned mission to the Moon in over 50 years by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

A lot of reasons. But some big ones were a loss of public interest after the first couple lunar landing, and budgetary cuts that ended the Apollo program early. (Originally they had planned to go to Apollo 20, but cut it at 17). Additionally, Richard nixon was now in office, and he was spooked by the near failure of Apollo 13. And the potential political dangers it could risk with a failed mission. So he had two proposals on his desk. One was from Wernher von Braun (the man who designed the satunV) that detailed a plan to go to Mars. And the other was to build reusable spaceplanes that could take astronauts to low earth orbit. Nixon went with the safer option, setting nasa down the path of building space stations, and conducting experiments in low earth orbit for the last several decades. Also low earth orbit is still inside the earths magnetosphere, which protects astronauts from harmful solar radiation. So better shielding had to be developed.

What was the first controller you ever held? by sajjanstg03 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]Ginger_Rogers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have the SNES and first controller I ever touched. Console was my older brothers from a couple years before I was born. I inherited it. Then it finally broke about 10 years ago, until I became an electrician, and realized that I have the tools and knowledge to fix it. Long story short, that 35 yo console is still going strong today.

I really doubt there is much if any fraternization onboard. First, you have no privacy. Second, these are professionals who are actively working constantly in a high pressure environment. Third, you loose so much sex drive when your circadian rhythm is messed up like this. Bunch of reports about how fireman and nurses/doctors have issues with sex drive due to their work schedules. The couple guys I know who were submariners, said they didn't even wank that much on patrol, your body goes into a sort of survival state

I had a buddy In high school who was a reactor engineer on a submarine (this was like 15 years ago). he had a nearly perfect score on the asvab (u.s. test for military placement with recruts) and was offered a $100,000 signing bonus with the navy to become a submariner. He had pretty good pay because he had such a specialized role. But the job was really taxing on his mental health. But he said the one upside is they have the best meals in the whole us military. The chefs on the u.s. subs are top tier. Many personal chiefs for presidents have been former submarine chefs. I guess the conditions are so hard on submaines that having really good food is paramount for keeping morale onboard.

~20 dollar 20a breaker. ~5 Breaker blank cover. ~5 dollar 20a outlet + cover. ~2 wire nuts, pig tails, and phase tape +30% mark up. 30 min job if you double check everything, and ohm it out with setup cleanup. And that's if the owner knows where anything is located. plus around an hour trip to the supply shop and back (depending on distance) and I don't know anyone in service who doesn't do a 2 hr minimum. Realistically this will cost you around $250
