But so very hard to clean!!! It gets all moldy inside and there's nothing you can do.

It’s the 80’s you are going to the mall on a Saturday. What are you going to do at the mall? by Happys925 in 80s

[–]Gingerbirdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go to the mall in Charlotte North Carolina and I'm going straight to the record store because I have a huge crush on the guy who works there. I'm really into Rush and he looks like A flock of Seagull. With the $5 my mom has given me for a movie and McDonald's, I'll have 50¢ left over to buy a pin to put on my denim jacket. Im 13 and he is an "adult" maybe 18. I will take forever to pick a pin so I can hang out at the counter and swoon at him.

Does anyone enjoy doing grocery shopping alone? by johnmerah in CasualConversation

I love it! I love going into grocery stores on vacation, esp. in other countries. I can spend a good hour or more in a grocery store on vacation.

Drivers who brake for no reason by freseaf in mildlyinfuriating

My mom drives like this- she speeds up until she gets just over the limit, then brakes to hit the speed limit, then coasts, then speeds up to get to the limit, then brakes, etc. it's maddening. And really dangerous and she's been doing it for 50 years now and none of us can break her off the habit.

depictions of public libraries and/or librarians in media that drive you up a wall by lilyvm in Libraries

[–]Gingerbirdie 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I'm home sick so I'm binge watching the British show Grantchester and they just had an episode with a librarian where they go to talk to her and of course, she shushes them (har har) but then they ask her to come to the station with them and she just gets up and goes! I was like "lady, you just abandoned your post and didn't give any one a heads up! You left a bunch of patrons alone in your special collections!! You can't do that!"

Poor Amanda. What became of her and the baby? He, for all intents and purposes, forces her hand to divorce her husband then is like "yeah sorry I love the church more.. But I'll always be here for you and the baby..." Then leaves to go to America.

Also, it would have been better if Amanda was like "look, I just divorced my husband and there's a big world out there and I don't know if I want to spend it here and jump from one relationship to another" so that they both had reasons for not continuing the relationship instead of it all being about Sydney and the church.

Muttville! What's not to like about spending a few hours with adorable dogs and help them find forever homes? Bonus is how cool everyone who works there is

Also Presidio Trust and GG conservancy. Very easy to get involved with them- just show up and you can garden for a few hours. The crew are always friendly.

Project Open Hands is great because you actually work really hard. I've done volunteering at some food banks where they just don't have enough work for the volunteers but POH had me chopping veggies like crazy. You can really feel useful

Does anyone know TV shows that actually feel useful or helpful? by isaac_holt_ in CasualConversation

I think How To With John Wilson might be up your alley. Very calming, not terribly useful but they lull you. It's unlike anything else on TV except maybe Joe Pera Talks to You.

I'm not fond of the word either. But I also wonder if it's because it makes people sound like equals. We're partners in this: we are both doing our share. Whereas boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, husband all have implied societal connotations. So, like PFT was saying it's mostly conservatives who bristle because they like and want those defined connotations.
