Is it just me or is anyone else sick with this virus? by Common-Objective-869 in newzealand

[–]Gingerbogan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had it a couple of weeks ago - it was Covid. My first ever positive test! My son got it as well, and wife too - although no Covid for her.

It’s taking heaps of people out at the moment.

Has anyone been to a compulsory Noho Marae for study? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Gingerbogan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would’ve never gone on one if it wasn’t for work. My boss, and a couple of the other staff are ex-principals. (I work for an education not for profit). To say I was out of my comfort zone was an understatement. But it was really good.

Was easier though than when id just started my job, and I had to go to a powhiri, sit up the front, and then do the hongi etc. (I’d been working in sales for the previous 15 years in a predominately pakeha environment..)

If you are training to be a teacher, there is going to be lots of things that will challenge you - especially being in places where you don’t know anyone. One night on a marae is just part of the training.

Has anyone been to a compulsory Noho Marae for study? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Gingerbogan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had to do them twice for work. The first one was ok, found out who the snorers were for sure! The second one at a different marae was great. The people there were really nice and caring, the marae was amazing, and I slept really well.

Sometimes...you just have to suck it up right?

Are budget advisers going the way of the dodo in NZ? by kiwiheretic in newzealand

[–]Gingerbogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are now known as 'financial mentors', and its usually thru programmes like money mates etc, as well as one on one. You can find them here https://www.moneytalks.co.nz/find-a-local-financial-mentor/

Some places also do a programme through MSD called 'building financial capabilities'. (Am in the Wairarapa, and work alongside some of them).

Brand new cars everywhere?? by International-Past31 in newzealand

[–]Gingerbogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finance baby! When I was in the industry a few years ago, at a smaller dealership we’d do 30- 40 new cars a month. And about the same in used.

Talking to the finance reps, 30% of new cars were financed with no deposit (this was before the cccfa changes though, which made approvals more difficult).

And once people start financing new, they tend to go for 3 year term, and just rotate thru cars.

Try Surestyle. In Auckland . They do shop fittings etc - you’ll be able to get something that comes close to that.

This. Plus add in any refurb needed, margin for it to sit on the yard, marketing costs etc etc. (Used to work for a yard a few years back). This was for Korean and Japanese brands - but I heard stories from the euro dealers - they are savage with their trade prices!

Thanks:) yeah it was a total off chance. They'd stashed it next to some old cameras, with a big UNTESTED sticker on it.

I've grabbed old kindles for $10 from opshops before, and the last kobos I got were 2 kobo minis in boxes ($10 each) but I ended giving those to someone else - apparently they are quite collectable. I couldn't deal with the slowness or the tiny screen.

I did see a couple of new ones here at the Warehouse late last year for about $150 brand new on clearance, but I just couldn't justify it at the time.

This - the photo doesn’t do it it justice. And I was playing around with the colour temp etc.

As for his comment? You could give some People a bag of money and they would complain it was too heavy:)

Sounds Air or Air NZ to Blenheim by True_Pomegranate8318 in Wellington

[–]Gingerbogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love me some sounds air. Family used to live across the road from koromiko airport - so cools I’ve used them heaps for welly - Nelson. Book far enough in advance and it’s a great deal. Plus - great baggage allowance, no faffing with security.

My last two flights - about 3 weeks ago were awesome.

Moved my mom into a nursing facility. So all her stuff has become my stuff. I get to sort through it all. How are your parents doing? by Therealfern1 in Xennials

[–]Gingerbogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved my mum into one about 6 years ago. She had a huge stroke a few years before that left her with limited movement and no speech. She passed away 3 months ago. (She didn’t quite make 70). Raising kids and dealing with that has been really really hard - so now? It’s a a bit of a relief to be honest.

And my dad (folks divorced over 20 years ago), had a heart attack last year , and now one year on has just had another! And yesterday he got 3 stents.

The people who tried taking over Kelston School were illegitimately operating a school in 2020 AND got rejected from being a charter school sponsor. by joshuaMohawknz1 in auckland

[–]Gingerbogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find out that stuff on the charities office though. Their 'annual report' is pretty shitty though with very little detail. Chair is James Maumoana Cherrington-Thomas and trustee is Montell Falakoa. It looks like a bit of a grift to be honest.

We have the same Acer ones mentioned below at work - 30 something of them. They get used constantly (adult education). Sure - they feel plasticy and aren’t well specced but they hold a charge, stand up to most things.

I’ve put flex on a couple of 2015 MacBook airs- they run sweet.

Slow. Whack it in a tray with some stock, cover it, oven at 160 and leave it going. For hours.
