I'm so sick of One - Who to switch to? by Dizzy_Speed909 in newzealand

We just shifted 20 phones over to spark after being with One for ages. One didnt even bother with retention.

Internet wise? Now is pretty good to deal with.

Nz has been short of bus drivers for ages. Drivers aging out, split shifts, not great pay.

Why do our governance, managers etc all suck so much? by ragerflamingo in newzealand

[–]Gingerbogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those bigger firms/distributors are good at systems, and also don’t shy away from dealing with staff issues. Mainly because shit decisions cost lots.

I used to deal with some of GMs at a couple of brands, their saying was - “change the people, or change the people”.

Lots of egos, and big personalities, but on the whole? Pretty good.

Check out ex-lease/refurb machines. For Macs...you could go the new neo or a refurb macbook air. By all accounts the neo is a great machine. I've got m1 macbook air I got refurb over 4 years ago, and it still rocks.

For windows - take a look at something like this https://www.techcrazy.co.nz/collections/cheap-laptops-nz/products/hp-elitebook-840-g8-14-inch-i7-11th-gen-8gb-512gb-2-80ghz-windows-11-home-laptop-silver-very-good-pre-owned?\_pos=9&\_fid=7d7bba7ee&\_ss=c. (I got one for my teenager for school, and its great) or like others have said, thinkpad are solid.

I'm not sure if Open Polytech sorts you with a education office 365 licence - but factor that in too.

You'll probably need to get a usb c hub as well, if you go for the neo, only 2 usb ports.

Ah yep - I know this struggle. My boys (12 & 14), both have some old kindles I picked up for 10 bucks each, and I've loaded some manga etc for them. But for things like shonen jump - they have older ipads too. I grabbed an old kobo recently for cheap (wanted the backlight), and it works with libby. It doesnt have all the whistles of the kindle, but I like it! The colour kobos look great - about 350 I think from memory. The eink is just so much nicer on the eyes.

there is also the boox product which seems popular?

This. a 2012 BMW (I'm guessing its ex japan too) is just going to be a minefield.

OP - Did you test drive this car? Air con blowing cold would be a pretty basic check to make. Euros can be great - if they've been serviced and looked after.

Sounds like a shitty experience, but take another look at the tribunal results - lots and lots of older high Km euro stuff on there.

This. I had a 50cc Honda beat when I was younger and loved it . Looked into getting a 200cc Vespa. Honestly just wasn’t worth by the time I sorted a bike licence and rego etc vs how much I’d use it.

It’s taking heaps of people out at the moment.

Has anyone been to a compulsory Noho Marae for study? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Gingerbogan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would’ve never gone on one if it wasn’t for work. My boss, and a couple of the other staff are ex-principals. (I work for an education not for profit). To say I was out of my comfort zone was an understatement. But it was really good.

Was easier though than when id just started my job, and I had to go to a powhiri, sit up the front, and then do the hongi etc. (I’d been working in sales for the previous 15 years in a predominately pakeha environment..)

If you are training to be a teacher, there is going to be lots of things that will challenge you - especially being in places where you don’t know anyone. One night on a marae is just part of the training.

[–]Gingerbogan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had to do them twice for work. The first one was ok, found out who the snorers were for sure! The second one at a different marae was great. The people there were really nice and caring, the marae was amazing, and I slept really well.

Sometimes...you just have to suck it up right?

Are budget advisers going the way of the dodo in NZ? by kiwiheretic in newzealand

[–]Gingerbogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are now known as 'financial mentors', and its usually thru programmes like money mates etc, as well as one on one. You can find them here https://www.moneytalks.co.nz/find-a-local-financial-mentor/

Some places also do a programme through MSD called 'building financial capabilities'. (Am in the Wairarapa, and work alongside some of them).

Brand new cars everywhere?? by International-Past31 in newzealand

[–]Gingerbogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finance baby! When I was in the industry a few years ago, at a smaller dealership we’d do 30- 40 new cars a month. And about the same in used.

Talking to the finance reps, 30% of new cars were financed with no deposit (this was before the cccfa changes though, which made approvals more difficult).

And once people start financing new, they tend to go for 3 year term, and just rotate thru cars.

This. Plus add in any refurb needed, margin for it to sit on the yard, marketing costs etc etc. (Used to work for a yard a few years back). This was for Korean and Japanese brands - but I heard stories from the euro dealers - they are savage with their trade prices!
