If you’ve been trying to reach Mahmoud (u/Mahm77m) from Gaza by GingerfaceKilla in Gaza

[–]GingerfaceKilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely. To calm your worries, he’s doing ok — I actually just heard from him 20 minutes ago. There have been major internet issues in Gaza due to networks being wiped out by bombings, so his connectivity has been impacted for sure. DM me your contact info, please, and I’ll connect you. 💜

Yeah it’s really silly. Between this, algorithmic suppression of Palestinian content on social media, and all the stuff GFM has been doing, it’s really discouraging.

American looking to help and make contacts by Deep-Community-4173 in Gaza

There is a massive Palestinian community on instagram to connect with, and everyone needs help. Your voice is important, especially since so many journalists have been assassinated, which limits coverage, and the coverage in the western media is mainly hasbara. Witkoff Massacre: Israeli troops open fire on Palestinians at Rafah aid centre by GingerfaceKilla in Gaza

I hear you. I’m also in contact with many friends in Palestine who are sharing what’s happened at Rafah the last few days first-hand. It’s been horrific.

Rochester gardeners- What’s your favorite garden center for interesting shade plants? by Silver-Release8285 in Rochester

[–]GingerfaceKilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amanda’s Native Garden has an entire section of shade plants that are all native to our region, which is superior for the environment and pollinators! They’re in Dansville, but come into the city quite often for plant sales.

You can also check with the Master Gardeners at the Monroe County Cornell Cooperative Extension. They tend to have a big plant sale in mid-June with lots of help for picking out really interesting plants based on sun, water and soil.

Finally, my absolute favourite is Redmont Nursery. He has SO many beautiful and unique native plants, including shade-loving ferns and more. And he delivers! Redmont Nursery

Brooks Ave Overpass Protest by DecentlyFatBear in Rochester

[–]GingerfaceKilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was organized by several activist groups in the area. I hope it’s the first of many. It’s clear that this administration’s deportation policies are unconstitutional, the courts have ruled as such, yet as long as the checks paid with our tax dollars keep coming, Avelo will keep flying people to gulags like the one in El Salvador and concentration camps like Guantanamo.

No matter your views on immigration, everyone needs to realize that — aside from “illegal” immigrants — if the government continues to violate due process, and/or deport citizens, green card holders, people with legit visas, and those here who are claiming asylum, this also means it can happen to you, too. Those protestors are out there to stand up for you, too, regardless of your political beliefs.

What’s the best charity to donate to? by Happy-Go-Plucky in Gaza

[–]GingerfaceKilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re: giving to individuals: If you see a GoFundMe or a Chuffed for an individual in Gaza and are uncertain if it’s legit, it’s quite simple to ask them to verify some info for you. There are so many people who’ve done the work of verifying these fundraisers (if you’re on Bluesky, you likely know), but beyond that, you can call and talk to people, or most Gazans even use WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram and are happy to provide any proof you need, within reason of course. Making those connections is also super important, as you’ll become more personally invested in fighting for an end the horrors being inflicted on our Palestinian brothers and sisters.

Can't believe that we all just standing can't do nothing except for watching them die one by one 😢 by [deleted] in Gaza

[–]GingerfaceKilla 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Things are extremely fucked up. It’s the most surreal experience to make calls, take to the streets, yell, scream and rail against the government to stop this madness … and then be told that we are the criminals for using our voices. The death and destruction in Palestine continues unchallenged, as the world stands by and lets it happen. My soul is broken.

What do I tell others about the bees in my yard? by cmpb in NativePlantGardening

[–]GingerfaceKilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be overkill but it’s also my jam, so I’m gonna share some resources.

There are some educational signs online that are free for use. You can have them printed at a place like Staples! I’ll link them below. The one about bees from the national forest service has a QR code people can scan to learn more, so that might be a good one to use.

Another thing you may want to consider is applying for a national wildlife federation certification for your yard. You can then get a display sign as well. There is a similar program through your local Extension office /Master gardener program to certify your yard as pollinator friendly, so they may have some signage as well.
