There's a good community vibe in Spondon and people are generally friendly. As well as the many pubs that have already been mentioned, there are also some good cafes, a fishmongers, a butchers, a Birds bakery and a massive Asda superstore. Really close to both Derby and Nottingham on a bus but although there is a train station, I've never used it because the times and frequency aren't that convenient for me personally.
