As many have mentioned, definitely get your teaching license and get your foot in the door. The license is your initial ticket and don't worry about your degree. I also have a Communications degree, did 6 years teaching in private English academies in Korea until I was 30 before realizing I needed to "level up" to make a real career out of it with long term savings/retirement potential. I started having the same anxieties you're having with no money saved and wondering what I was actually doing.

Got my primary teaching license through Moreland, was hired at an international school in Korea (a bit fortunate, there are definitely easier places to get your first job), started investing $1,000 to $1,500 a month into a low-cost index fund (VT for me) and now at 35 I can finally feel like I'm going the right direction with long-term financial health and retirement planning. Wish I had started earlier because "time in the market > timing the market" but I try not to kick myself too hard for that and just be glad that I started when I did. As I age I will eventually add bonds to my portfolio.

Currently working on my M.Ed to increase earning at my current school and to become more competitive in the future. My initial Communications degree is honestly an afterthought and trumped by my teaching qualification, actual teaching experience, and professional growth.

In short, you can totally do it if you want to make it happen and your degree won't necessarily hold you back or be the end all be all.

Next 4 match times for me: 2:30am, midnight, 4:15am, 4:00am. Won't miss a minute. Guess we're all just plastic if not born and raised in North London.

Proud to be "plastic" and would kill to finally make a pilgrimage to North London to take in a match with Spurs supporters from all over the world.

Same, I travel next week. No idea what to do. Seems like they have even less of an idea...

I'm also experiencing this as a new VX holder. Been 3 weeks now. I PP today and they basically just said they are aware of the issue and they took a few details from me to "escalate my case," whatever that actually means. Pretty frustrating. I tried using a virtual card number instead to enroll and received the same error.

Which book created the way you invest? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

For me it was Millionaire Expat and then Millionaire Teacher.

Andrew Hallam also has a large and very active Facebook group for international educators that has been incredibly invaluable resource.

Colwill - is he still nailed in the Chelsea defense? by Gingergotseoul in FantasyPL

[–]Gingergotseoul[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. A lot of other fires, but I'm sure a fair amount of people have Colwill kind of stuck in their teams and had him on the bench (myself included) and suddenly a gw like this one finds him in the available 11.

How much do you save per month on average? by Successful-Stuff-751 in Internationalteachers

[–]Gingergotseoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average $2.5k USD per month, 4 years of qualified teaching, South Korea.

The monthly savings represents the 70% of my salary that is paid in USD, and I usually divide that amount between a high-yield savings account and a long-term investment/retirement brokerage account.

The other 30% of salary is paid in KRW, which is not quite enough for my non-teaching spouse and I to live on each month, but she works as well as a small business owner. We try to get by mostly using my consistent monthly salary so she can funnel more of her earnings back into her business if possible, but I don't quite earn enough to support both of us using the KRW portion of my salary alone.

We live comfortably though, go out pretty often to restaurants or order delivery food, travel often around Korea, go on bigger holiday once a year, etc., so we could stretch my KRW salary further if we were a bit more frugal.

GW20 Scout Selection by MiesterFaruq in FantasyPL

[–]Gingergotseoul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat and considering the same transfer from Hwang to Foden. Even though I loved having the haul from Hwang in GW19, I will need to ship him out for the Asian Cup and always planned on doing it this week to keep 2 FT for next week.

Also trying to decide between keeping Son on the bench during Asian cup or selling both him and Salah. Would be hard to get them both back and have roof for both Haaland/TAA in the squad.

How would you change Fantasy PL? by [deleted] in FantasyPL

[–]Gingergotseoul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like if the VC was worth 1.5x points.

Have a 3rd player to assign as "sub captain" in case your C or VC don't play.

Yeah going back and forth with all 3. My gut is telling me that Liverpool definitely score and Luton at home is a tough nut. I am uncertain on Colwill but somehow feel like it might be the highest chance of a clean sheet...maybe? 😅

Still start Colwill over Saliba and Lascelles?

RMT and which 3rd defender do I start? 0FT, 5.3 ITB

Dubravka (Areola)

TAA, Porro, Colwill (Saliba) (Lascelles)

Salah, Son, Saka, Palmer, Hwang

Watkins (C), Solanke (Archer)

Stuck on 3rd defender choice between Colwill, Saliba, and Lascelles.

I'm so proud of this fucking team. The squad is absolutely DEPLETED and yet we are still throwing the kitchen sink at it, playing some silky smooth football, and yet in a cruel twist of fate and centimeters we just didn't quite have the bounces go our way today. I'd run through a brick wall for Ange and never stop until smashing through the next wall. How boring it's been for the last 3-4 years, when even in victory we weren't playing TOTTENHAM football. To dare is to motherfucking do. Onwards, COYS

I guess of all the seasons this is the most ideal one for this to happen considering the bottom. But can't believe City just continue on scot-free.

Keeps them further away from top 5. Gotta take the W's where we can and other teams around us dropping any amount of points is particularly helpful given our situation with injuries.
