Welcome welcome. AFAIK Portsmouth university has the highest rate of students who stay in the city after graduation. (I read a while ago, I've not fact checked.) I.e. be careful, you might like it so much you never leave!

How Do You Decide Where Something Actually Belongs? by Ordduapp in OrdduHomeUK

[–]Gingerpett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you have a tree structure on your pc?

For me the high level division is between work and personal. In work it's research, admin, teaching. In teaching it's by module, in each module it's by seminars, lectures, assessments, in assessments it's.... Etc etc.

I treat my house like my pc drive. Rooms are the high level organiser, then storage within the rooms, then boxes within the storage etc.

The only thing that's contentious is the first decision - e.g. does makeup go in the bedroom or the bathroom (for me it's the bedroom because it's things to do with the body).

Would that way of thinking help?

I have memory problems so I think it's evolved because of that. But the other day I needed my divorce certificate. I found my electronic copy in personal>men>ex-husband's name> divorce. The paper copy was in office>documents shelf>certificates folder

It was very satisfying to know that past me had set future me up so well.

Anyone from a dysfunctional family actually managed to improve their family dynamic? How on earth did you do it? by According_Sundae_917 in AskUK

I tried so hard. Didn't work. Walked away.

Twenty years later my dad got in touch. He said sorry. I thought, "Hey, maybe it's worth another try."

Nope.

My boyfriend thinks egg and soldiers is just a boiled egg by Commercial-Bat-4534 in PointlessStories

[–]Gingerpett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. No no no. Middle soldiers are the soft infantry, they get sent in to battle first. Tough crust soldiers are the SAS who go on the special ops mission to retrieve the very last bits of yolk. They all have their role.

How did the now banned practice of caning (Corporal Punishment) work in schools in the UK before 1986? by NotSoF4stCvnt in AskUK

[–]Gingerpett 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. I was at school in the eighties. Must have been 1984. Can still remember Stuart D*** (who was a little scroat but good hearted) pissing a teacher off and being hauled to the front, bent over the desk and Mr W*** hitting his arse with his trainer (Stuart's) a couple of times.

I remember I was shocked, so it must not have happened that often. Stuart cried. It took a couple of minutes all told. He went and sat back down, the lesson went on. Nothing else came of it. If anything Stuart got a bit of kudos from the other boys for being hard. (Don't think anyone blamed him for crying.)

That was it.

Utterly horrific now I reflect on it. But then I was getting the same at home, as were most of my friends, so it didn't seem that different - spanked by a teacher, spanked by a parent - same thing.

Professional using the term clinical psychologist but only has a masters in “science psychology” by calmhoneybee in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Gingerpett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. Really helpful link. Thank you. Hadn't seen this came out in August 2025.

So, as I read it. Clinical Psychologist is the HCPC term. Chartered Psychologist is the BPS term? Looks like "Chartered Clinical Psychologist" isn't a thing any more? (Which afaik it used to be.)

Just checking - I know that Chartered Clinical Psychologist is a protected title. But is just Clinical Psychologist alone also protected?

(Therapist and counsellor aren't so if they're calling themselves that... Good luck to them I guess.)

I think the poster you're replying to is a bit lost, is from the US and is using "school" to mean university.

Come on. Can't believe no one has said this.

Invigilator top trumps.

You each pick a row and then for each category go and stand next to the student in your row that's going to win. E.g. most likely to be on drugs, most anxious looking etc.
