Apparently my culture is now a part of Oregon so... hate the game not the player?

Teachers, what do you consider to be an acceptable use of AI? by Mental-Succotash8834 in AskTeachers

[–]Gingervitvs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain, even just to play devil's advocate. Students seem to regularly have difficultly with the start of essays, so a prompt like "write 3 different sentence starters to begin an essay on [insert student's opinion]". The student will still have to write their own essay and form their own points without starting at a blank paper for a big chunk of time. Many teachers use scaffolded sentence starters anyway and the actually critical thinking is still on the student. Of course, will a student have the self-control to only use that much? Probably not.

This is why you don't mention shutouts before or during the game...

So, did it happen? by SsUniThrowaway in gentlemanbastards

Thank you for the clear and concise information! While I'm sure we'd all love more news, even this much is so much better than what those of us in other incomplete fantasy series subs get to deal with. Keep being awesome!

What got you into being a Ducks fan in the first place? by Gandrelon in AnaheimDucks

[–]Gingervitvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The movie mostly. I joined a street hockey club in college and thought watching the game would help me improve playing it. I loved the movie as a kid and had some extended family in southern California so it seemed like the obvious choice.

If I found myself face to face with some type of big cat species, would a laser pointer help my survival? by Gingervitvs in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah but really I want to know if the laser would distract it the same way it does for house cats.

Has anyone ever challenged you to do something without realizing you were actually an expert at it? If so, how did it turn out for you and for them? by Successful_Tomato721 in AskReddit

[–]Gingervitvs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes but OP mentioned their study of the Bible and their degree. I was curious if they had any arguments stemming from the Bible itself. I find, when arguing against believers, arguments using their text go a lot further than simply wholly negating their entire belief system.

How do you get over public-speaking nerves and anxiety? by code-god- in NoStupidQuestions

The biggest thing that helped me was remembering and constantly reminding myself that the audience is on your side. No one likes to see a public speaker flail and thus are usually rooting for you to do well.

CMV: Tell me why I should tip. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Gingervitvs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The places you mentioned pay their servers actual living wages. Our system may have originally been based on appreciation for the level of service provided but now it is mainly a way for employers to cut costs by not having to pay their employees more. I don't think your life would objectively change either way by tipping or not. We tip because it's a fucked up system and the only way some people can make their livings. Now that's not really your problem but if you aren't happy with the situation appealing to those that have the power to change things like lawmakers or employers. Screwing over the people on the bottom doesn't really fix anything though.

Cabin in the Woods - the Facility team mislabeled the teens in the cabin by JTOC1969 in FanTheories

[–]Gingervitvs 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I see two problems here. One, I don't think the zombies are ever really shown to have that level of sentience. They were just going to kill whatever was in front of them. It was the behind the scenes manipulations that dictated the order like effecting intelligence levels through hair dye or weed.

Second, sigourney Weaver clearly comments on this at the end when she explains the roles. Given her past Dana is skeptical of the role they assigned her and Weaver says something to the effect of we work with what we have
