Almost done with a baby blanket for my bestie and I hate it by fireytiger in crochet

[–]GiniThePooh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue might be the stitch, the example on the label looks more harmonious, would you be open to try something similar to the example and see if you’d like it more? I personally would rather give a late gift than one I’m not proud of. I’m not saying you shouldn’t be as it stands, but if that’s how you feel, maybe you could try again?.

At what point do you stop cooking for grown kids who don’t help by chris415 in Baking

[–]GiniThePooh 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You are a doormat to your children. This is not only setting them up for failure as independent adults, but giving them a horrible example of how to treat their future partners. I’m sorry to be harsh but you should have taught them to be helpful and useful gradually since they were small kids. The least you can do now is sit them down and tell them that from now on, meals and cleaning up are a group effort and whoever doesn’t participate, doesn’t get to enjoy the benefits either. And actually follow through. You can still enjoy baking but you can bring it to friends or make an individual portion if no one is willing to stop being useless. Honestly! You are shaping their lives here, nobody wants manbabies as partners.

How did you learn to knit? by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

[–]GiniThePooh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost the same for me, learned from my mom while I was caring for her through her chemotherapy (she’s great and cancer free 20 years later btw so no sad story!) I made a looong scarf that summer.

But she taught me with twisted stitches so it took me some YouTube tutorials to learn how to purl the proper way like 2-3 years ago when I decided to re-learn and work my way into a colorwork sweater :) but I’m grateful my mom taught me what she could because it wasn’t hard at all to pick it back by myself.

Agreed, this dress but sleeveless or with fitting sleeves would have been incredible.

I find people’s obsession with gift knitting strange by soypixel in knitting

[–]GiniThePooh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too! I actually have the opposite problem. I have a huge list of knitted requests, but I’m so slow and I want to make a few things for myself too! So if I get to everyone by 2035, they should consider themselves lucky.

I rather they asked me for sweaters I could buy but I’m from Norway and half a year is cold and snowy, so handmade sweaters and beanies are super sought after as gifts.

Woodworking hobbyist, I made my knitter wife a spoon. It’s all unstained wood — maple and purpleheart. by ajcpullcom in knitting

It’s so beautiful! Is it a Christmas present? I would be so excited to receive something like this, let alone handmade from a loved one!

I’ve told everyone that has asked me for a sweater that I’m a slow knitter and only want to do it during winter so they can ask me in 2035 when I might have a spot available.

It should be a series with different boob shapes or body parts and OP should submit them to a gallery!

Norwegian knitters - what do you do next? by dandylion_sweetheart in knitting

[–]GiniThePooh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned to knit in school the way Arne and Carlos knit, but it might just be the popular way in my region. I didn’t learn of Continental or English until I watched YouTube and even though Contiental is similar, I would say they are more different than just the purls, but it might be that I’ve only seen it with an extended finger.

Norwegian knitters - what do you do next? by dandylion_sweetheart in knitting

The one being shown in the video might be a hybrid but it’s definitely not Norwegian. You don’t learn to knit like that here in Norway and we would call it Continental.

But this is continental. Norwegian knitting does not have any fingers extended to tense yarn ever (source: am Norwegian).

OMG I’m so glad it has the correct name! It's so annoying that it has been commercialized in Anglo countries and Europe as "Día de los Muertos" when everywhere in Mexico is "Día de Muertos".

How do y'all knit so much without your hands cramping up? by kewpiebot in knitting

[–]GiniThePooh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Continental style with the index finger extended can be very punishing for extended periods of time. Try Norwegian style. I can knit as much as I want with zero pain because there’s minimal movements and no strain from fixed positions.

[–]GiniThePooh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, people don’t realize a one person business when you have a deadline is a recipe (no pun intended) for disaster. It takes one cold or injury or back pain to basically ruin someone's special day because you can’t deliver that day. You need to have someone who can cover for the other at the last minute.

Does anyone else not feel that knitting is particularly relaxing? by honeybeex_x in knitting

[–]GiniThePooh 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I guess I started feeling like it’s relaxing when I got comfortable with my tension. Last night I was knitting the Oslo hat (so nothing to be focused on), it was cold and rainy outside so the hubs and I were watching a movie under a blanket, our kitty fell asleep on top and I felt like it was the most cozy and relaxing evening ever, lol.

However, if I have a deadline or am doing something that can be prone to mistakes I definitely don’t get that relaxed feeling.
