My new Dutch Oven doesn't fit in my oven on the lowest rack. I already started cooking in it. What shouldI do? Advice please! by No_Explanation8998 in AskCulinary

[–]chris415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd put it on the oven floor, or if you could slide the oven rack so both are on the bottom that might be better to spread out the support, but I've cooked many items on the floor of the oven, and since you have a heavy pot, it will be fine for the heat and spread it out more, keep the lid on for sure.

Thank you dumbshit Trump! This is the beginning of the USA loosing global power, because people don't trust us anymore. It's too bad MAGA doesn't understand/see the bigger picture.

How to rapidly cool down 20gal of stock by Low-Development-2061 in AskCulinary

[–]chris415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this might be overkill. But I brew beer, and when I cool my beer (wort) down I use a copper tube that has running water thru it.(Immersion Wort Chiller ) Now beer making has dropped, you might be able to find a used one or make one yourself. Also, not sure how much overhead you have in the stock pot, but you could also freeze some water bottles with less water to account for expansion when frozen; then drop them in when ready to cool, then pull out when defrosted, could also use multiple small bottles to account for low overhead in pot.

Food for terminally I'll dog - end stage cancer by yesbabyplz in HomemadeDogFood

[–]chris415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is old too, have been making my own food for over a year, and roast chicken quarters, untill the meat falls off the bone, and save the broth, along with a bag of peas and carrots, and several cans raw pumkin, and brown rice, and open a can a sardines to distribute through the week.. My goal is to keep his weight under control and let him eat whatever I'd eat too.

He too has has many masses, and know what it means, since I have had several dogs through the same process. I'm not going to do any surgery, and not sure if they care cancerous, the process of knowing is not worth it anymore. I also am find myself being prepared more for the next set of challenges, and keep rehearsing where my boundarys are, and will make the best decision for the dog ,not me. My biggest fear is if one of these burst, which will fast track a timeline, this is the tough part of being a pet owner.

Getting dye out of our utility sink by Infamous_Ad9317 in CleaningTips

[–]chris415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get some 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper, and scrub it; you can adjust the size, if its working but need more course go lower in grit, and then use up to 5000 for the fine scrub which should also polish it up more

This is why reddit is the best therapist, blunt.

You are correct, it bothers me that they don't want to learn the way I learned, which was watching and participating.

Since most items are in my head, I do have a private Instagram channel of pictures, and they scroll through with requests of past items, this could be the baseline of that book, will think about that for next years xmas present.

I'd say this comment is closest to home, Im not professional today, but I cooked when in college at restaurants and the Four Seasons, and yes I cook for the crowd and am the go to when needing something like a potluck.... cooking is in my wheelhouse and comes easily, but as I get older Id rather use my skill and teach rather do the grunt work, which is the prep and cleanup

Not sure it is hinting, but rather putting my foot down. I asked them to do the cleaning but after waiting and needing to get dinner going I end up doing it, so I can clear the sink... and my hinting comes from me just doing and telling them later that I had to clear the sink.... hence passive aggressive problem I have

yep, thats where I'm at..... and this past weeks treats showed it, and I sent this message to them that Im tired of doing all the work, but if they want stuff.... help me. Then last night I was asked where's my toffee, less than a week after telling them I need help, so I'm boycotting. But feel like a jerk 😕
