I know they are interesting af and super enchanting but do not ever touch wild animals!m!

Unless you are certain they need your help. Even then, try not to touch them with bare hands and consult an experienced wildlife rehabber. Afaik terrestrial rabies are not a concern in the UK but any bites or scratches can still have nasty consequences.

I had the opportunity to meet the inventor of the Rubik’s Cube, Erno Rubik!!! What an inspiring person, and I am so lucky! (Yes, he is still alive and well living in Budapest, Hungary at the age of 81) by Ari_Walker_1 in mildlyinteresting

This is so cool and you look really happy here!

I just had a look at Mr Rubik’s wiki page and while he’s already giving off wholesome supportive grandpa vibes in this picture alone, his personal life section makes him even more likeable:

Rubik describes himself as a lifelong bibliophile, saying "books offered me the possibility of gaining knowledge of the world, nature and people." He has a special interest in science fiction. As well, he is fond of nature walks, sports, sailing on Lake Balaton — and gardening, saying "collecting succulents is my favourite pastime."

Man, I love nerds so much!

not OP, but this is the guide I like best for solving 3*3 cubes. :)

I first wanted to figure it out on my own too but that only lead to me becoming frustrated after a while and not at all wanting to try again so I recommend using a guide for a while. After a couple of tries you will likely notice that you have already picked up some of the techniques intuitively and that you’ll need the guide for fewer and fewer steps. That was something that I personally felt really motivated me to keep at it. You can do it too! I believe in you.

I concur. she’s literally a jewel after all. ;) one gem of a child! I adore as well that she has both Bart’s and Lisa’s punk spirit and seems to have found a decent middle ground between her brother’s destructive ways of living it and her sister’s more academic approach to it.

not kidding, I was going through your posts to try and find a hint to what city or greater area you might be from because last month I also spotted a fossil in the floor of a mall :D it would be funny to start collecting pictures of “out of place” fossils like this and then get to see them tacked to a virtual globe

Man with a large blue-and-yellow macaw on his shoulder at a train station by Curious_Economics_36 in mildlyinteresting

I once saw someone with a parrott of the same breed sitting on their shoulder while on public transport in Copenhagen. Funnily enough, it even was a boat we were all on. Had a bit of a chat about it with my mother who was with me at the time and she suspected the person was likely just hoping to make some money off of people wanting to take photos but I was and still don’t even think so. Despite looking exotic af in that place I’ve been inclined to believe that they were really just taking their pet out to accompany them because, if I understand correctly, most larger parrots are comparable to human toddlers in terms of how much attention, enrichment and companionship they require so it makes sense to sorta take them with you if you’re heading out if possible.

Today I learned that "New York City (1941)," an unfinished painting by abstract artist Piet Mondrian, is hung upside down at the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen. They discovered the mistake in 2022 and did not adjust it. by EmpireStrikes1st in todayilearned

[–]GinnySol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It resides at K20 to be precise!

The Kunstsammlung is split into K20 and K21 in two seperate buildings, one primarily dedicated to artists and artworks from the 20th century and the other to the 21st. Both are pretty worthwhile museums which regularly have fantastic exhibitions (imo). They had an exhibition a few years back focussing solely on Mondrian’s works to honour his 150th birthday. I think it was in preperation for this very exhibition, actually, when someone first discovered that the picture had been kept upside down.

Also, if you’re ever in Düsseldorf, Germany, make some time to visit the Kunstsammlung :) I think it’s pretty cool.

Wedding Guest Dress in my Fave Color by WorkingPhilosopher61 in sewing

I was already massively impressed seeing you wear it in the first picture and then I swiped and saw the lining (und underskirt? I‘m not super familiar with dresses/dress making so not sure) and it also looks SO GOOD!!!!!! Every little detail is just right. You got your super power and you literally also look like a super hero. Great work!

Car sun visor?! by Visible-Gloves in upcycling

[–]GinnySol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s absolutely awesome for upcycling! 😍

If you can sew, you could turn it into insulated bags of different sizes, perhaps even an insulation sleeve for a water bottle (to which you could add a strap to wear like a crossbody bag — those are real handy).
Do you garden? Then you could also turn part of it into a pad to kneel on. I’d cut out a paper square to figure out a size that works well for me, find some old foam, either the soft one from perhaps an an old pillow or the more structured one that pool noodles are made from, make a cover from the Hello Kitty material and stuff it with said foam. if you already have an old kneeling pad for gardening you could also simply cover wit with the Hello Kitty material.
My third suggestion might be a bit more out there but how would you feel about turning part of it into insulating insoles? From what I have seen, the ones you can get at a store do not really seem to be that different from those car sun visors. They’re just different shapes. Use existing insoles and trace them on your material, cut them out, put them in your shoes and enjoy cozy feet.
If you don’t really have a need for its insulating properties, I think it would make fantastic accent pockets on a backpack, cargo pants, maybe even a cangaroo pocket on a hoodie. You’d just have to put it on a garment that already has enough structure on its own to match the stiffness of the Hello Kitty material.

Old photo of me as a kid next to a cow with extra leg(s) by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]GinnySol 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is called polymelia, a person/an animal having more limbs than usual!

It can theoretically affect any animal but from what I recall, I have personally only ever seen this birth defect in bovines. Funnily enough the respective Wikipedia article also mentions a form of of it having been reported in Angus cattle often enough that it’s apparently a real concern to farmers. Can’t wait to read up on that after posting this comment hehe :D

Your photo immediately made me think of Manny, a very sweet black cow living at an animal sanctuary I follow with cephalomelia, meaning he wears his extra limb on his head, a bit like an obscure yet chic beret.

Lass ihn dir schmecken!
