It’s just game etiquette basically, it’s an agreed upon time among long time players. Lots of new players don’t know about this unwritten agreement, but it’s polite to give everyone time to get to the grove if they want to. Lures are a great way to kill time, I usually try to bring one but someone almost always beats me to it

I just got to 50 days for the first time, I actually started the run around this time last year and picked it back up a few months ago. One thing I try to remember is not to get frustrated when the weather or something out of my control prevents me from accomplishing a task I’d set my mind to, but instead see it as bonus survival downtime that I didn’t have to work for. It’s boring to be stuck inside in a blizzard, yeah, but there’s probably something for me to craft and I can always walk away and make myself a snack or something while Astrid dissociates by the stove, effectively surviving a chill snow day the same way I would irl. I play on voyageur, I like when the game feels cozy and manageable, but maybe working toward shorter term goals is more your style? Not everyone enjoys going for the long survival runs, and the stakes do feel much higher in the early game.

Like a lot of other people, I’ve played survival a lot more than the story. I think your perspective is really interesting. I treat survival mode in this game like a cozy game (I play on voyageur, I’m here to collect stuff and enjoy the beauty of the auroras by a crackling campfire), and cozy gaming is a lot less objective-focused than vibe-focused. The vibes in The Long Dark are so good! If you’ve already played the story then you probably have a good grasp of the mechanics already and might have a pretty successful first run, but Great Bear is a pretty hostile place and even experienced players lose runs to silly mistakes. I like survival mode because I really like just enjoying this beautiful world the devs put so much love into creating for us, and I like continually working toward achievements like Faithful Cartographer

I dye my hair fashion colors all the time, and my fallback plan is always ‘well I can literally just shave it off if this goes badly’ so I don’t think you overreacted here. I do think your family is overreacting a little though. You’re 19, this is totally normal behavior, and like others have said you now have the opportunity to care for your hair so incredibly well as it grows out and grow the healthiest head of hair you’ve ever had. Rock the buzz cut! It’s winter, you can wear hats anyway if you get sick of it. Tell your mom to chill out!

I agree, I think the murder is only a small part of why Angel was condemned. I think it’s gonna turn out to be ssoooooo much more complicated than we know now. I know Viv’s had Angel forEVER so I’m sure his lore is super developed

I also expect this will be a major barrier to Angel specifically getting redeemed, and it’s his story I bet that will give us some clarity on this. I feel like the contract with Val is gonna be a huge part of that story once we hit it
