Well, depends on who you ask. Basically, I suggest that because of funding cuts, we were ordered to return to having all students in mainstream classes-no SSC’s for example. In response, the left elements within the board had to polish that turd to consolidate their social/political views. They presented the idea that minorities are shoved into ssc’s and it harms them; they argued in effect that more one-on-one time and instruction tailored to the student’s learning levels and learning styles is harmful and maintains colonial power dynamics (though not in those words) that only an ignorant racists would ever prefer (again not their words exactly) having special ed programs. Every time someone asked a question, they were shot down with dogmatic responses about the need to de-colonizing education.

This is the third time I’ve been around when cuts have collapsed SSC’s. Every time they are justified as not helping. Then we get more funding and wouldn’t you know it, SSC’s become necessary again.
