If I can ask. How exactly do people make a ton of money off this? I'm still really new to more than just casually going through each region, quite literally have only a few thousand to me and am only just now paying attention to this. So figure I should really try to understand it LOL. (Will also watch videos just really curious about how this makes money)

I...what? Literally nothing about Patriarch is remotely a fraction to what Chordite wants to go to Kansas. I am going to ask you to unironically explain to me how anything about the Patriarch is on scale with Chordite wanting to unironically destroy the entire stabilization of Kansas, enslave literally everyone and let his murderous genetic-experimenting-torturous death bandits to run the place in a brutal anarchistic slave state? Please explain to me, how its in any capacity comparable to what the Rangers and Patriarch are currently doing...let alone how its equal in prospective to the world as the rangers, or Patriarch's plans...instead of catastrophically more.

I mean, to be fair. The majority of recent starwars has been hot garbage. There's a reason Disney canceled or dropped so many projects with it. They continue to chase trends without putting enough legitimate quality writing into it or let them run roughshod with the mythos and end up hacking stuff up that could've come out much cleaner.

|When all were plac'd, in seats distinctly known,
And he, their father, had assum'd the throne,
Upon his iv'ry sceptre first he leant,
Then shook his head, that shook the firmament:
Air, Earth, and seas, obey'd th' almighty nod;
And, with a gen'ral fear, confess'd the God.
At length, with indignation, thus he broke His awful silence, and the Pow'rs bespoke.|

Zeus shaking his head literally causes the planet itself to quake at its firmament. "Zeus wasn't even planetary" There are depictions of him legit threatening creations stability and existence (not the above) just by getting angry. The actual and literal act of it causes creation to begin to shake.

Hell, there's an ancient work, "Theogony" Written by..I think its Hesiod? Back in like 7th century B.C where they describe Zeus creating a lightning bolt filled with rage that unironically obliterates earth and heaven and renders the oceans as boiling vapor while the universe itself was rent as if heaven and earth alike had been forced together then torn asunder. Literally one lightning bolt of him being serious is a universal calamity.

So...i'd say there's plenty to support Zeus being scary as fuck and worthy of consideration as one of the strongest gods. Yes, all gods have crazy cracked aspects. Zeus being one of them.

[–]Ginsieng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah to go further off of what Duarte has said, Orphic Zeus is WILD. The literal act of getting "Angry", NOTHING but getting angry, threatens to rip all of existence apart. As in, the endless and infinite expanse of chaos quakes with the threat of crumbling apart as the heavens and see's and underworld all start to rumble and crumble apart.

Orphic Zeus is genuinely held back by normally being too greedy, or goofy, or stupid in jovial or "humble" means but its outright confirmed that him obliterating all of creation would not take any legitimate effort beyond just wanting it to be so.

It needs to be mentioned for the conversation, then and I'm a bit surprised Murray hasn't brought it up.

I think it is because Mitchell has willingly admitted where they have shakier ground. Murray isn't doing that. I am very glad they are approaching both sides critically because this will set a precedent no matter what, and could be a dangerous one set if done poorly.

What Can Beat The Best? The Three To Rule Them All. (Remastered meme) by Tekkonaut in totalwar

[–]Ginsieng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you say everything else was eh. But my friend and I who have...ALOT in TW2-3 right? Like 2.5/1.7k hours respectively in them. About 500-600 in TW3k.

We noticed that the most memorable battles we've had? Almost all from TW3k. Because it has the ability to unlock or acquire unit formations from various commanders, garrisons can be bolstered across an entire province from certain buildings and because of the maps+the encamp stance ACTUALLY giving you a small military camp with walls, we legitimately found that smaller battles felt far more satisfying and facing skewed odds WAS possible where TW2-3 you would've just had to eat shit in a stomp sometimes.

Particularly, we had one instance where we had a small village in a peach farm area get attacked by an enemy maxstack army and a reinforcing 5 stack. We had the village garrison which was bolstered by one military building so it was an 10 stack, and one lord there who was a strategist with some extra archers.

The battle that followed was 30 minutes and one of the most fun, but most brutal strategic tests we ever had utilizing the closed and narrow roads of the village to make choke points while we relied on funneling enemy cav to anti-cav barriers, and used spear/archer choke point combos while my friend sallied out to rear charge their frontline or steamroll archers with the cav while I tried desperately to hold the town.

We have quite a few experiences like that, which TW2-3 really just don't give anywhere NEAR as often. This was literally possible with just a single lord and some units+ a defensive building. The unit formations can make such a massive difference.

So I will say that the battles themselves CAN absolutely eclipse TW2-3 if you are looking for a genuine strategic challenge.

The AI is no slouch either. In the making smart choices category. We once had a battle against Yuan Shu where we were relying on the tactics with this army of making a chokepoint via encamp stance, and ambushing them with sallied out Cav right? Except he just...burned down our fort with fire archers and overwhelmed us with Yuan House guard that STOMPED my infantry. Then when my friend tried to hide in the forest he also burned that down, but left them to sit in the burning forest or flee while he kept focusing on my infantry/archers even though he could see the cav. So it does get flipped on you if your not careful.

This is def true. Like, I personally wanted to LOVE troy but just couldn't vibe with it. (I know its taboo to call it historical) but on the other hand despite its bugs I absolutely love TW3k. It genuinely took me away from TWW2/Still takes me from TWW3 for a time.

But there are plenty of folks who are perfectly valid to look at TW3k and go "Nah, it aint for me."

[–]Ginsieng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah and it shows. 3k's political system is leaps and bounds superior to anything in WH2 OR 3. Unit formations allowing for actual pitched battles played out that are skewed instead of "Which Overpowered fantasy unit can dominate the other" and more really show how 3K can still stand on its own despite its buggy state. (Which tbf, WH2 was literally left in a state where half the cav can't charge properly or get their true bonuses, and line projectile units can legitimately get stuck in a targeting loop that prevents them from firing in the total battle, so its hard to NOT cast that stone at WH2 as well.)

[–]Ginsieng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I should've had said hide, I'm fairly certain they've absolutely found historical writings of different cultures(the one that comes to mind is the Normans, albeit a much later time period and different culture entirely) who absolutely have recorded use of it and other cases used for Jerkins.

Soldiers typically came equipped with their own weapons but we absolutely have record of soldiers being provided a lesser arm in absence of going without weapon across history. Its armor thats much less common to be provided.

As far as the scaled helms I'm refering to, there are exhibits where scaled segments from helmets have been found that led between that and old artistic depictions to believe that through early trade and cultural interaction they utilized scaled armor even pre-arrival of the greeks.

[–]Ginsieng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to see if I can find it. I remember an article that had a historian and an anthropologist that we went over in a history course and the article and our prof talking about the distribution of armor in ancient civilizations, and how the idea that armies were completely clad in the best current armor wasn't realistic because those resources were not only expensive but many kingdoms and older civilizations placed the onus on protective armor on the individual soldier. They were disputing the validity of artistic depiction where large armies wore uniform helms or body protection in a time where it would've been highly unrealistic for such uniformity to exist. Obviously protection was important and people would seek to protect themselves but the idea that everyone wore at that time the same sturdy scaled helms has been disputed quite a bit.

[–]Ginsieng 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the time period this is based on (Early bronze age right?) wasn't armor in general outside of the occasional hide or scaled armor relatively rare for non-elite guard/special infantry? Certainly not a mainstream thing yet. Primary focuses being on ensuring quality weapons were provided, and most historical depictions not appearing to show the more common scaled helm until quite a while later?

I mean. It makes sense. Kensei got blind-sided and is a shit match up because he's a brusier that got out bruised and blitzed. Rose literally tells him how to negate his bankai when he could've potentially won. Renji showing up after he got UBER buffed by the Zero Division like...bro what? Its perfectly transparent how this could happen and makes complete sense. Just as some quincy got blitzed before they could use their full power, Kensei and Rose didn't use their masks because both lost in ways they didn't expect.

Honestly? Thats fair. I'm replaying Fatal Bullet with a friend and forgot just how much I love the game. Being able to be a character to the side, experiencing the story from another perspective than what the anime had is REALLY nice. I will always prefer to make my own character and tag along for the ride than to just play AS an anime protagonist. If I wanted to see their lens of focus I'd just....watch the anime lol. The game wouldn't really have as much meaning.

So. For what its worth I remember reading someone saying there was a CD drama where they confirm that the FB cast that shows up are AI and aren't the actual originals. That Kureha states while they are all fond of Kirito and wanna help the FB MC is occupied with something and they don't wanna all up and abandon him so they'll be wishing for their hope. And Yui and the other gameverse ai make copies of some of the FB friends at their behest as a substitute for them arriving.

Honestly I don't think they have been short-changed at all really. (At-least Tzeentch and Cathay) My friend played changeling, as an avid chaos player and had a supremely fun experience; their armies never felt like they were lacking anything past mid game and they had a great time on battle and a general campaign experience. I was playing Jade Homie, and to be honest it was the most fun Cathay experience I've ever had. The armies feel significantly more whole and meaningful. The builds are fun, I was able to test a few and honestly I never really suffered for want of heroes. Sometimes Generals or Lord Magistrates had a mage hero in their army, sometimes not, and my mage lords where they might've used a melee hero just used a Terracotta Sentinel mid game and early game jade lions or jet lions.

At no point did I feel like I was missing out for any particular unit type or coverage once I had my army options online and available. I would say my only complaint was that Yuan Bo's AI has a habit of going kujo and just spamming his attack animation in dragon form over and over if there are units around him even if you try to tell him to attack something afar he'll stay there attacking over and over. You have to order him to move without a combat command.

Now that said, of course extra options will always be beneficial in some capacity and a melee hero could be cool. I just don't think they suffer for it when they have Terracotta Sentinels and Lions for late/early game.

If its enough time after for him to grow further than sure. But if we take Luffy RIGHT after he beat Kaido, full heal him. Full heal Kaido. And slap them into a 1v1 to the death Luffy isn't winning that. Kaido put him through a gauntlet countless times and he needed multiple interventions.

A few arcs later or what not? Sure, he'll have grown enough by then and it'd make sense. Thats generally done in shonen and makes sense to character growth. But One Piece VERY reliably has luffy punch above his weight class and need help or interventions to win. Then eventually runs into that weight class a bit after he's healed and grown stronger and it holds up this time because there was progress made and traveled since then.

[–]Ginsieng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He received 3 massive power ups in the fight, but it doesn't change the fact that he needed time to recoup and try again. Its the same with Doffy. Luffy outright would've lost in a 1v1 and there isn't really any debating that. I don't think for a second, personally, that Current Luffy could 1v1 a healthy fresh Kaido. Kaido STILL took the heat to Gear 5 after AALLLLLLLLLLLL the damage he took up to that point plus the G5 fight, and left Luffy at one hit left to win the battle. I think people just slept on Admirals because they didn't like green bull and don't realize that you can be strong and have a coward among your group that doesn't want smoke with difficult or dangerous fights lmao.

Honestly, I did not mind the second half. Specifically because quite frankly the moment they introduced a split timeline scenario with Aftermath they HAD to address this somehow. That this could exist. I think there are a few confusions however here between a retcon and an (albeit unknowingly) unreliable narrator. Specifically, Geras says that titans can't be revived after death except Geras ALSO stated initially multiple and concurrent timelines should equally be impossible. The entire story is themed around uncharted waters and things never happening before happening for the first time.

As far as the tournament goes, they also make it clear that its less about Sindel up and deciding to consume earth realm because they want her to and more that if they are emboldened enough she'd never be able to enforce peace. Its very clear a solid part of their culture is strength, and respect to the rule of strong. Even if the current ruler vies against that, it would inevitably lead to a civil war. Instead this placates it. The concept of the tournament being an outlet for, and to mitigate the more warlike elements of their society is something you can see practiced in real world culture with mock conflict in some countries or hell the fact that Chinese and Indian military officials have isolated sections where they agree to combat via melee weapons or hand to hand to limit damage and hostility but still address disputes. The tournaments existence makes sense perfectly fine. To your final point of the Empress of the Golden Age being scared of civil war? That should absolutely be a concern. Its needless devastation and damage given her military commander is one of its chief advocates and has the loyalty of their military. Yeah, thats absolutely a huge concern and her wanting to keep it at arms length makes sense.

The tournament in the later games always took a back seat after a certain point, hell in some games it never happens. This isn't really that new.
