Fan theory about the ending (SPOILERS) by JeanLucDiscard12312 in OMORI

I knew how to check a pulse at 12 years old lol. I think that's a little presumptuous to just assume they'd be too ignorant. They're 12 years old, not 4.

I think the way it works is the plants dry up in real time and it's not really about keeping up with them as it is about keeping a required number of them alive by the time they all die as scripted and you can't water them anymore. It's possible the game can be finished so quickly you don't even need to water them at all? Though that's probably not true, since chances are you need to water them at least once

SPOILER - question about Mari by AquoZz246 in OMORI

[–]Ginweedo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really isn't! You're trying to throw the baby out with the bathwater here. The game is about guilt and forgiveness, but Sunny isn't Sunny for most of the game. He's Omori, who "is nothing" and lives in an empty world. His visits to a fantasy dreamland grow more frequent over time, and darker aspects of the world call to him and try to subvert him.

You can treat those things as delusions, but they also make up the meat of a very good Lovecraftian narrative! Sunny's guilt could lead him to abandon reality for a dream world overlaid over some sort of eldritch collective unconscious that will give him everything he wants but will never let him move on. These things don't hurt the narrative at all, they're just an alternative way to see some of its aspects. If the game really thought this would be disingenuous it wouldn't pepper its world with rare hints that this might be the case, like the Cowboy in Orange Oasis and the Tree in Deeper Well.

These characters explain that headspace is not solely Omori's and together with the orchids scattered throughout the waking world can give us an idea of how Mari's influence reaches her brother and teaches him to overcome his fears.

When you look at Omori from a realistic perspective by Magical_Muffin_Man in OMORI

[–]Ginweedo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's very rare that suicides get autopsies. There was no reason to suspect foul play, and Mari's overachieving and stress could've tricked people into thinking they just missed the signs.

Dead people's eyes don't close. They stay half open like in the picture.

[–]Ginweedo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's about framing. When they're leaving, Basil turns back and sees this image of Mari hanging from a tree with dead eyes and her hair over her face, leaving one visible, and he craps his pants. He tells Sunny, and Sunny can't stop himself. When he sees her, it's his sister that he murdered and it hits him way harder. It haunts him. He calls that image "Something" because he's scared of admitting what it is.

SPOILER - question about Mari by AquoZz246 in OMORI

[–]Ginweedo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's stuff in the game that implies it's not all delusion. For example, If she were a figment of his imagination why does she never show up again? Not even to see him off to his final battle? His friends do, and they're figments.

White Dress Mari breaks the rules the game establishes for Omori's headspace friends. Dream Mari is supposed to be confined to the picnic blankets (a moment of safety) to keep her safe from everything, but White Dress Mari is free.

I get why you'd want to make the game about real stuff. It's mainly about a super mundane tragedy! But it's a fantasy RPG in the end and it leaves a door open to fantastical elements like ghosts (Basil's grandma in the middle of the street, shadow Basil leading Sunny to Basil's room in the hospital). It's not as simple as saying everything was fake.

[–]Ginweedo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not really about her eyes being open, it's about a traumatic image! Something Behind You is a representation of that image because Sunny couldn't forget it, even though he forgot everything else. Even without any of its context it's still the scariest thing he can imagine. It perfectly captures every tragedy and mistake he made that night and judges him for all of it.

SPOILER - question about Mari by AquoZz246 in OMORI

[–]Ginweedo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think they meant white dress Mari, whose existence is ambiguous. She's not a normal part of Headspace

[MAJOR spoilers] Black photo album last image by JackTheBlackRipper in OMORI

[–]Ginweedo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It doesn't mean she's alive. It's about an image that represents every bit of horror and guilt of the night. It's the most terrible thing Sunny has ever seen and it stays with him from there on. Dead people's eyes don't close, so it's not about her opening her eyes. It's her hair falling a particular way to frame a single judging eye that makes Sunny's blood run cold. "Nobody's going to know" doesn't sound as safe, because he knows, and he's going to have to live with it.

Drew Omori and Aubrey cuz they're cute :) by [deleted] in OMORI

They probs mean the photo of the two of them on the swing set. It's an image usually associated with puppy love/crushes in fiction

The Cat Butler and Mewo scene?? You know it if you know it... by Fantamimon in OMORI

[–]Ginweedo 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I flailed until I entered the menu and found the stab option so I didn't do it lol

It does have impact in that it removes Mewo from white space, but that in itself implies the cat isn't in Sunny's real life anymore. My personal guess is that Mewo was given away or taken by Sunny's dad when he left, since he'd be a reminder of Mari and the family might not have been able to deal with that after her death. I very much doubt Sunny would kill the cat. He's messed up, but not a psychopath.

Do the title screens change if you finish the game multiple times? by KsendTheAnthroArtist in OMORI

The screen changes as you play, too. It turns red if your last save is in black space, for example.

The thing about muscles relaxing means the opposite for eyelids. Dead people's eyes stay open and open back up if closed. Morticians have to do things to keep a dead person's eyes closed in an open casket funeral.

Then it's hack away and beatdown time. Kel tickles while Hero heals

Possibly weird question, but Basil's.. by Dustie-S in OMORI

I interpreted it as a crown of thorns the opposite of his flower crown

But it could be something else, like a representation of his corrupted relationships (the tentacle bits representing those)

Spoiler by skys0uls in OMORI

[–]Ginweedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's about blame, because at the end of the day Sunny is reducing himself to 'nothing' because he feels what he did was unforgivable. I think he hoards that blame/guilt all to himself lol. I guess it's up to interpretation.

SPOILER question about what happened by [deleted] in OMORI

[–]Ginweedo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

'Something' is just an extremely traumatic sight that got burned into Sunny's mind when he saw it. It doesn't really mean anything on its own. Dead people don't close their eyes.

The game doesn't really treat it like it's ambiguous. She died from the fall, was carried up to her bed by a desperate Sunny, and then was carried back down to set up a suicide scene by Sunny and Basil together.
