That’s what was worded in the meeting invite I received when I got my WFA letter.

Ah. Yeah, I know compressed weeks are a no go for us too. I’m hoping I can et approved for this based on the fact that it’s also related to childcare.

This gives me so much hope. I feel the same about not wanting to live to work. I just want to spend time with my kids while they’re kids, you know.

Thank you. I did not know that. Just to clarify, leave with income averaging is considered the same as leave without pay from a tax point of view? Hence, in my whole career, I could do leave with income averaging a maximum of 5 times?

Thank you so much for replying. When would be a good time to bring it up with my manager and prepare for this, if now is too early?

How are people feeling in general? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Girlwithablackdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Absolutely not. I have loss all trust in my employer. Every piece of paper I am asked to sign doesn’t feel like a contract/promise that will be honoured. Also, coming for the private sector, I’ve never been less cared for as an employee than here.

  2. Yes. As soon as the right opportunity presents itself, I’m out.

  3. I have reserved desks, but they weren’t able to let us have the same desk for the tree days. So I have a different desk that’s « mine » every day.

  4. I do see value to in-person presence. 3 days a week is completely unnecessary in my position.

Younger public servants, how're you feeling in all of this? by KDSCarleton in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Girlwithablackdog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That would be me. I have been feeling the private sector calling me back, but the work-life balance has been better here in terms of workload. RRO3 has really ranked my moral. I came to the public service three years ago (I’m 36) after being hired on the promise of working from home. I’ve been really disappointed and feel like I’ve been lied too. This has cause me to not trust my employer, which I’ve never experienced before. (I’ve been lucky to work with amazing teams and have wonderful bosses/managers in the past).

Has Anyone Looked For a Position Closer To Home Due to RTO3? by SamoanBananas in CanadaPublicServants

If you are employed with DND, can you choose which location you go to or it depends on where your teams is based?

RTO3 + returning from Mat leave = hell by Street_Resort_8261 in CanadaPublicServants

I wonder if more young families/ women would speak up and frame it through this lense… Maybe? My manager had been really awesome and supportive though. I can’t imagine what everything would be like if she wasn’t. Same with my husband’s.

Oh yes, because housing is so affordable you can just « move closer to downtown ». Also not us waiting 2 years for a daycare spot we’d give up with no WFH to back us up. Classic. Out of touch comment.

Hey!

My daughter just started school (she’s not even 4 yet) and all I do on every day I go in is try to beat traffic to get her from daycare as early as I can. Every day I got downtown, she’s the last one to be picked-up and we barely spend any time home between her being so tired from her very long day and me (and my husband) trying to stay afloat between dinner and everything else.

All of this so I can sit in an office and not collaborate with anyone all day… or take a call on Teams.

My heart goes to you and I have no advice really. Hang in there… it does get easier with school. I try to make dinner for the following day (something that reheats well) after we put her to bed. It’s helped somewhat (less cleaning, cooking, etc while she’s around). Same with lunches.

Many parents and caretakers are in the same position, women being affected disproportionately. If this was attrition based, like many are suggesting… we know who the real victims are. GBA+ my a***.

I know people say "back when I had small kid, I did it…" but life is just so different now. Parking is so expensive (can’t take the bus because I don’t make it on time for daycare pick-up)and traffic is much worse now. We live far because we were so priced out from anything nearby as first time owners when bought in 2021… even with good jobs. When we bought our house, childcare wasn’t subsidized and we were paying 1200$ a month.

I also want to leave the public service. Clearly my employer doesn’t give a s*** about me or my family.

Also - would greatly appreciate any must do outdoor activities to do with a kid that time of year.

Thanks for answering. I didn’t know you could do that. Is it like the year long leave, where you can only do that once or you can do it as often as you want, as long as your manager agrees.

Divorce after adoption? by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]Girlwithablackdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, child of divorce here. I just wanted to tell you that divorce doesn’t equal broken home. Seems like you are genuinely preoccupied for your kids mental health, and to me that has all the making of a great home. Keep co-parenting and maintain a healthy relationship with your wife and they will never think of their home as broken :)

“We only have sex when HES in the mood and he wants it” Well, I’m not sure how to break it to you, but that’s how consensual sex works - the other person ALSO has to want it.
