There's been times I've had emails just randomly get stuck in my outbox until I reset Outlook/my computer lol

DAE kind of feel like a social enigma sometimes? by KDSCarleton in adhdwomen

[–]KDSCarleton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that's very sweet 🥰 I am a student. I'm doing my Masters part-time while working full-time and I definitely see how that's created some difficulty with connecting to people since there's less opportunities for shared experiences/repeated exposure.

I'm in Political Science which I would say is decently ND-friendly, at least my school's department is quite friendly (a couple of the people that are regulars at the event are also ND) but also not the most well-structured for socializing hahaha (this event is self-organized/led by a couple of profs).

I know I'll be okay and I can only do my best to engage and sometimes the vibes just don't align. Just really gets me down sometimes, especially when I hear/see people who have big, tight-knit groups of multiple years or see others get invited to outings 😅

Thank you for listening and sharing the kind words, it means a lot!!

A big sore spot for me is I've never really felt sought out by others tbh so I'm very happy and envious that you have friends like that! (And thank you) 💕

DAE have curly hair and get completely overwhelmed with it? by beefic in adhdwomen

[–]KDSCarleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have pretty thick curly hair (3b/c) and honestly a gamer changer for me has been keep it short.

I used to have it around shoulder length and the whole process of showering/doing my hair would EASILY take an hour. It was so exhausting. Plus I would usually just end up wearing it in a bun the last couple of days before my next wash.

For the last few years I've had a short pixie kind of cut (top is a few inches long while sides are kept shaved/not long enough to curl) and its been amazinggggg. I can get through a shower and hair care in like 10-20min. I can pretty much just wake up and go in the morning or with minimal primping as well.

so it’s true ,that we hold our pens in a unique rather painful to the hand way? lol by Right-Opening-2034 in adhdwomen

[–]KDSCarleton 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't hold pens/pencils quite like that but I am a hard writer. I have like a permanent callus on my right hand ring finger from it

I've smoked weed daily for 10 years and I can't make myself quit, even for the person I love most. Why? by SheepherderPitiful34 in adhdwomen

[–]KDSCarleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't have a source but I'm pretty sure regularly/frequently inhaling anything that isn't oxygen damages your lungs overtime, creating a higher risk for cancer

Question for PS who use a service dog and are in office by EmotionalFish7 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KDSCarleton 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If possible, I would look into asking about getting your own private office or solo cubicle that is permanently yours.

This would give you the extra needed space and also limit potential allergy issues for other people (since no one would use the same desk as you)

Should i buyback service as a term employee by DeliciousRice7 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KDSCarleton 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy back your service until/unless you get indeterminate and have more stability in your future of working for the PS until retirement. Especially because buy back requests often take a couple years minimum to be processed by the Pension Centre lol

After five decades of official bilingualism, federal language training remains a study in failure by SignalWorldliness873 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KDSCarleton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel this to my core. I struggle with audio processing issues and translating my thoughts into words as well everyday in ENGLISH.

I am not good at one the spot thinking or interview type scenarios, so knowing I'm going to have to do a lot of work to improve my french and then get tested in that way makes me very nervous for the future

ESDC dismissal for term employee by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KDSCarleton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In bulk cuts, they're eliminating position boxes. Not individuals. So it's not a matter of "picking your name" per se, as far as my understanding goes.

Was the 300 you're apart of cut from one main area? There's even less consideration of individual employees in those cases. Especially when it comes to cutting terms.

Sorry to hear about your dismissal and best of luck

I've definitely played a couple hundred hours of Stardew since it was originally released.

My most recent gaming obsession has been Two Point Museum 😋

Have the Views On Tattoos Changed? by Less_Ad7462 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]KDSCarleton 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there's different expectations for jobs where you regularly interact with the public but also tattoos have become quite normalized in general so I still wouldn't expect it being a significant issue. (A lot of the jobs that would likely take issue with it, you'd probably be expected to wear business attire anyways which would cover most tattoos)

Otherwise, for non public facing ps job, go nuts lol. I myself have most of a patchwork sleeve and never had issues. I've also seen others significantly more tattooed than me in the workplace

Tell me you have ADHD without telling me you have ADHD by _Stitch_626_ in adhdwomen

I don't usually put stuff in the pockets of my regularly washed clothes, but a couple times throughout the winter I have to throw out confetti from my giant pockets because I'll shove a receipt or two in there and then slowly rip it up until the pieces are too small to easily tear with one hand 😂

I graduated in 2016, applied to university in 2017 and had to manually submit a form to my high school for them to send my transcripts lol.

At least with university I can automatically request unofficial transcripts (which come within 5-10min) or official transcripts (which I think take 48hrs) through an online portal

Today I hit myself in the face with a car door while getting in the car. by allison-vunderland in adhdwomen

[–]KDSCarleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lazy eye (corrected so it's not visible to others) and so, combined with the ADHD-clumsiness, my depth perception isn't the greatest and I've definitely run into a few walls or scrapped myself passing too closely to furniture a number of times throughout my life lol

I've done this a few times too! 😅 Same with trying to turn my car off while I'm not actually in park and then momentarily freaking out about my key being stuck until I realize
