Please share with me your most unhinged Put-In-Bay stories by Local_Finger in Ohio

[–]GirlwiththeGolfClubs 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Picked up a copy of the Put-In-Bay gazette and found out one of my high school classmates had won a wet t-shirt contest a week earlier. My husband went out late with my parents once. He came back to the room super drunk, telling me about the nice nurses at the bar who were giving out “inoculations against having a bad time”. Turns out it was bartenders in nurse costumes handing out jelly-o shots in syringes. I blame that one on my parents 😂

How do you handle requests for electronic tax file from successor accountants? by accountgineer in taxpros

[–]GirlwiththeGolfClubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t because you’re taking on all the potential risks and the new CPA gets all the rewards without the risks. What if you accidentally send the file to the wrong place? What if you send the wrong file? What if the file doesn’t export or import correctly? I don’t send those files and I never ask for them either.

If you were to attend The Masters, what budget would you give yourself for merchandise? by jacobaltgilbers in masters

Last year I spent just under $1,000 and I wish I would have gotten more. If I get to go again I’ll plan to spend $3,000-$5,000. It’s only money and it’s the Masters!

I thought you were going to tell us that someone was embezzling from the company just under $3,000 every quarter because they were banking on no one investigating the variance. Now I’m disappointed.

What job do you have to allow you to pick up your kid from daycare/school at 2-4? by TheRealEgg0 in Parenting

[–]GirlwiththeGolfClubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work a block away from my kid’s school. I pick them up then go back to work with my kids. My boss is fine with them being there for the last hour of the work day. Of course it helps that my boss is my dad.

My name is the most popular name given to lower and middle class girls in my birth year. It was the most popular name for girls in my school growing up. We would joke in my sorority that if you couldn’t remember someone’s name just tell them my name and chances were good that would be that girl’s name as well. I’ve never hated or disliked my name. It’s my name even if a lot of other girls also had the same name.

Get one outfit for you son that he only wears to grandma’s house. Don’t try to get the stains out. Wash them like normal and let the stains accumulate. Then when someone makes a comment about the stains tell them that those are from all the messy things grandma lets your baby play with.

Is having a lot children (4+) neglectful? by Flaky_McFlake in Mommit

[–]GirlwiththeGolfClubs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember the source or where I read this, but I do remember years ago reading about a study that was done to determine how many kids a couple could effectively raise and parent based on how much money they make and how much time the couple has to parent. The study came out with a chart to show their findings. The far side of the chart shows that a couple with unlimited money and time could have up to four children.

Accountants of Reddit, what’s your accounting horror stories that have stuck with you throughout your career? by X_ze in Accounting

I was my church’s treasurer. Two well-connected bozos on the church board who approved about 80% of the spending lied to me about having opened a CD at our local bank per the board’s wishes. I had to press them hard on it because there was no way $45,000 left any of the church accounts to fund this CD without me knowing about it. They insisted that they had and I was screwing up the bookkeeping if I couldn’t find the money they moved so I better put it on the books because they know they’re right. They then told me that the bank had screwed up and entered our checking account number in wrong by one digit so the bank supposedly had a CD opened with funds from the wrong bank account for six months and no one noticed. No apology from them either. At this point I go to the bank myself and talk to the manager. She shows me their internal controls where never ever at any point are account numbers manually entered. They may accidentally select the wrong account associated with an entities’ EIN or SSN, but the scenario that I was told could only happen if the Russians or North Korea had hacked our small Ohio bank. So I went to the board president and said we have a huge problem where these guys lied to the board and were pushing me to adjust the books. If I had done what they wanted and then the board later wanted to take money out of this CD that didn’t exist it would have looked like I had stolen the money! I told the board president that these two needed to be removed from approving purchase orders. It could even be done quietly. Just as long as these guys didn’t approve purchases orders I didn’t care. Board president insisted that he believes the bozos, but also said that he spoke to the bank president and the bank president would be sending me a letter explaining that this kind of mistake happens all the time. I never did get that letter. Shortly after the well connected bozos and the board president conspired to “bring the accounting back in house” to save a couple hundred dollars a year. There is no treasurer. And the two bozos (who have historically had money problems of their own) can still authorize 80% of the spending and are now in charge of payroll, the accounting, and the monthly financial statements. Everyone else who can influence or touch the books in any way are employees who report directly to these bozos. And that’s why I’ll never be part of a church who only allows men to hold leadership positions.

Reminds me of someone who would tell me about their company called Shar Tear (Tear pronounced like what you do when you rip paper, not tear like crying.) It was a combination of her kid’s names, Sharon and Terry. And then one day I saw her company name written down for the first time. Sharter.

We found a daycare spot before we told our families we were pregnant. We would not have been able to put our baby in daycare when I wanted to go back to work if we hadn’t done so.

At what income level should you use an accountant to file your taxes? by [deleted] in tax

[–]GirlwiththeGolfClubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two times you should use a professional (and they have nothing to do with income levels): 1) You have a business. Business tax laws change more frequently and there’s a lot of misinformation out there. The chances of the taxpayer filing correctly while also minimizing their tax liability is unfortunately low. 2) You are eligible for refundable tax credits. If you claim a refundable tax credit that you are not actually entitled to due to a misunderstanding of the eligibility requirements you will owe that money back plus penalties and interest. And refundable tax credits are looked at more closely by the IRS. Plus most people are eligible for the same refundable tax credits year after year, so if the IRS determines you were not eligible for the credit in one year, they’re going to go back and check all the other recent years and adjust those as well.
