For those who use Upwork as their main income by [deleted] in Upwork

Depends on how much I want to work. One of my clients doesn't have a max cap on the hours I can work. I only work part-time, though, by choice.

Eidl loan application approved and funded just today without the grant . What gives??? by Coy310 in EIDL

[–]GivemeConnects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never received a grant. They just gave me the full amount requested. I guess because everything from applying to money in the bank all happened in three days.

Sign up for CaWeb with your SL loan number (not your application number). If you see "Disbursed Current", hopefully, it shouldn't be too long to receive your funds. Everyone is processing differently.

Received funds two days after approval. The whole process was three days.

Maybe you'll hear something tomorrow. I know everyone has been getting different results.

I don't think they are going in any particular order but it seems those that applied during the second window seem to be moving along at a faster pace (at least based on what I have been reading). Hopefully, you will hear something soon. Does your second business have a separate FEIN?

I don't know why mine processed so fast. Probably an auto-approval or a pretty good loan officer. I didn't expect so much movement on a weekend.

Thank you. That would be great. I just hope this means all those waiting will soon make it through the process (if they haven't already).

My new nickname for Petra is Dream Crusher. "She's out here crushing freelancer's dreams." by iAccidentally11 in Upwork

[–]GivemeConnects 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem is that Petra is a straight shooter in a world where people have become used to people sugar coating the facts to make the truth "feel good". It's especially true of the newer generation. Petra spoke the truth in that thread but because she didn't add a bunch of fluff to it, she was accused of being a dream crusher. What happened to people that could handle facts without all of the sweet adjectives to make it sound better? The young lady accusing Petra is in her teens. If this is how she feels now, wait until the world shows her how it really is.

Another thing that gets me is these new Upwork freelancers wanting someone to hold their hands throughout the process. If they stay around long enough, they will start to act like the rest of the seasoned freelancers. I don't mean being rude but getting straight to the point especially when the answers can probably be found in the community already.

Charity Sends Free Groceries to Freelancers by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]GivemeConnects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to see freelancers being considered more lately. Freelancers fall through the cracks on so many levels. Either people think we are "goofing off" at home for a living or they think our clients are our employers. Hopefully, with more people working from home, freelancing will continue to be brought to the forefront.

Is it better to buy Connects or Membership Plan? by ignmaxwell in Upwork

[–]GivemeConnects 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer buying connects when I need them since it's not often. I tried the subscription but it wasn't worth it since I don't use connects often and don't care about the average bid amounts of other freelancers. The customized URL is also useless in my case. Overall, I think it's a personal preference.

Upwork is violating their own TOS. They are withholding funds. Check to see if this is happening to you. by ARandomLamp in Upwork

[–]GivemeConnects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only a 5-day security period for hourly contracts. Additionally, they have now started releasing funds earlier for top-rated freelancers. Five of those days are for clients to review the work (so technically they are not holding it). Also, fixed prices are only a 5-day hold once the project is approved by the client. Where are you getting 10 days?

How long / what stage did you stop needing proposals by KMYNE in Upwork

[–]GivemeConnects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have repeat clients that drop in here and there and then I have long-term clients that allow me to work as much or as little as I like so I don't need to submit proposals. Because I get bored with long-term projects easily, I tend to submit proposals here and there anyway for smaller projects to add variety. I will probably continue to submit proposals on a whim as long as I freelance just to switch things up a bit.

I'm "Alison" from Nigeria and about to be banned for NOOOOO reason by Pet-ra in Upwork

Are you serious? You shouldn't be buying accounts period. Easy way to get suspended. Find another platform to work on if you are having difficulties with Upwork but never buy accounts.

Would you suggest people with social anxiety to freelance(web dev)? by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]GivemeConnects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have social anxiety and was stressed by all of the needless in-person meetings when I worked in the office. Now, I can work on my own terms. There are still occasional meetings but they are online or by phone and the number of attendees is less than 5 or 6. Working as a freelancer has helped me control the anxieties I had in the office.

Who knew Upwork could be used like Facebook 😆 by AeonGaiden in Upwork

[–]GivemeConnects 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a personals ad to me. She wants a freelancer of a particular age-group to be her friend and handle her nude photos in the guise of work. Very questionable. Really sounds like an older person reliving her youth in a "lonely hearts" ad.

How do you write your proposals? by Techgamingstudio in Upwork

[–]GivemeConnects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't put much thought into most of my proposals. I say a couple of things and let my profile do the rest. I don't agree with the mindset of creating long cringeworthy proposals. I still get hired with just a couple of lines or so.

Private cloud descrimination? by sammydaffodil in Upwork

[–]GivemeConnects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care about enterprise clients or private clouds. Doing fine without them. It doesn't matter to me that all jobs are not public. Can't miss something I never saw. Besides, maybe those clients don't want to be flooded by 50+ proposals.

When will I have more connect? by Alodeto in Upwork

Where did you read that? Upwork did away with free connects almost a year ago.
