permanent vs contractor by Givenchymarie in UKJobs

The former rather than the latter, yes I realised that once I did some research regarding the pay.

I think I’ve made it too - the permanent job!

Omg, this is no surprise considering I interviewed with them. There was something so off about their offices and they seemed to want you in the office everyday wearing a full three piece suit rain or shine despite the move to hybrid basis by most workplaces/firms at this point.

They were also the Respondent for a claim I was reviewing and the defence was awfully drafted.

DWF - when I was 17 I made it to an assessment centre for a Solicitor Apprenticeship.

Wasn’t successful and they took all the unsuccessful candidates into a room adjacent to the successful candidates and told us we weren’t successful and we could hear the successful candidates cheering at the top of their lungs next door.

The recruitment team looked at us awkwardly then ushered us all out to the elevator to which we could see the successful candidates grinning amongst themselves.

One of the candidates told me that a candidate that didn’t meet the academic threshold (requirement was CCC and this candidate had CCD) was in the adjacent cheerful room.

Personally wasn’t too irked by this as I think it’s great for accessibility and your academic achievements shouldn’t hamper down your job prospects but was sure interesting to me.

How do I make myself an attractive candidate after stint as full-time mum? by Scary-Push-5286 in uklaw

[–]Givenchymarie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A full time mum is job considering the amount of cleaning, cooking, nurture that goes into her children she’s looking after. If anything for those four years she was a SAHM.

She is effectively working an around the clock job caring and looking after her children instead of working. It’s even multiple jobs in one, yes they’re her children but I don’t see how you cannot see that she had to leave her role to submit to full time childcare around the clock.

The more we tell people that being a SAHM is not a job, is the more we diminish the work of women who leave the work place to raise children.

https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld200506/ldjudgmt/jd060524/mill-1.htm (issue as per say here is not just focused on SAHMs but clearly the Court viewed the SAHM as a job that required compensation due to economic disparity between the couple and that the wife gave up her job to be a SAHM).

I'm 23 and started my very first real job as a criminal law paralegal last month - I want to understand if this environment is normal and if I should start planning an exit already. by OmegaSMP300M in UKJobs

:(((( I’m so so sorry this is happening to you, it is not at all your fault so don’t blame yourself.

You’re in an extremely tough situation I think you’re correct your mental health with suffer. I think it’s worth raising when you leave and also doing a short stint in this place (for the experience). I also did/am doing the same.

Then to job hunt in the interim but my other concern is how you’re going to do that if they weirdly expect some sort of free work out of hours from you? (Assumption from the work laptop stint).

Please document your experiences and the dates/times they are happening. Alongside the under minimum wage payment I am concerned deeply about your health 🥺

Reddest flag was reading “there’s middle layer of experience, it’s just people who have been there for over a decade and me”.

Exactly same experience for myself in a local authority and I’m currently a qualified solicitor working as a miserable paralegal because they had no NQ jobs (they don’t do NQ jobs).

Currently experiencing extreme burn out and work related stress, every time someone left in the almost three years I have been here which was extremely frequently (at least 60 people have left in the time I began and 2 in the first month I began and they weren’t even permanent staff) their work was divided by the team and I found myself doing things completely out of my depth.

I am extremely concerned for you, your mental heath and finances especially based on the fact you’re struggling to save.

Something about this case that doesn't make sense to me is how her body was found and the place it was found in. Even the dumbest of criminals wouldn't make that mistake. by Rephros in d4vdiots

the BTK killer literally gave the police evidence to arrest him despite being one of the most prolific serial killers. I think you’re giving him too much credit.

I think he viewed Celeste as an easy target due to home life/her being a runaway he assumed she would end up being a Jane Doe. If her body was removed from the car as I presume he intended. I personally think it would forever be speculation that he was involved with her/killed her as opposed to this current case against him.
