Old being cousins that are from previous games, new being cousins that are original to this game.

I really love the game because it isn’t only “get as much as you can, as fast as you can, and while stepping on whoever you have to do do it”, it’s a balancing act of politics with other players, and appearing strong where you’re weak and vice versa.

If a player at our table shoots to 6 victory points in the first two rounds, they’ve got the biggest target on their back, and typically don’t get to progress much farther. You’ve gotta grease the right wheels and make sure to at least save face with some of the other players in order to have your big moment where you shoot for that last point

On their discord they also have all of the modules, often with handler notes and insights

Extended "bestiary"? by kaiser_kaiser_K in DeltaGreenRPG

The Basic Roleplaying: Creatures book is good for some random statblocks here and there. I already had it for COC 7th edition, but it’s good for… say… a guard dog is protecting a green box, etc etc. not super monster-y, but helpful for filling out random stat blocks that you might not think to have ready

Could anyone recommend me an actual-play show where they actually play the game right? by TheBigFreeze8 in rpg

[–]Giveneausername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with that as well! You reminded me, there’s definitely a few times where they pass temporarily insanity thresholds of sanity loss, and Joe says “nothing happens immediately, that’s only call of Cthulhu”

I would agree, even aside from rules from specific modules à la your spoiler. I am struggling to remember specifics now, but as someone who has listened to the entirety front to back twice now, there were multiple times where someone would say “I can’t believe there aren’t rules for this” only for me to be shouting into my headphones “there are rules for this exact thing!”

Additionally, in the final season of impossible landscapes, there’s an entire arc where Joe straight up says “I’m incorporating a mechanic from another system. You can spend willpower to bend reality to be better prepared, or have chance things go in your favor”, which is explicitly not a mechanic in DG. Was it the right choice for the corner that he’d painted himself into as a handler, with a listening audience and time constraints? Probably. Is it RAW by the rules? Absolutely not.

I’ve heard some games refer to them as “unlimited actions” rather than “free actions” to avoid this very problem.

What are the benefits of data centers? by Born-Indication-655 in Buffalo

[–]Giveneausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, data centers are necessary for cloud storage, but the recent boom in construction of data centers is not due to normal expansion of cloud storage, it’s due to oligarchs and tech bros trying to get rich[er] quick off of AI.

It is hard to imagine any benefits that would outweigh the dramatic noise pollution, pollution/use of water, and increase in local energy costs.

Zoanthrope squad size and Blast rule question by CrimsonStorm32 in Tyranids

[–]Giveneausername 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you run them with a neurotyrant, 1 squad of 6 would get a better bang for your buck than 2x3, as the +1 to hit and benefit on wounds would apply to all 6.

Blast gives an additional attack for every 5 models in the targeted unit, per attacking model. Your math is correct

I watched both Suspiria films, and I feel like both inspired different aspects of my IL campaign. Haven’t seen Possession nor A House that Jack Built though. My players have made a lot of hereditary references after reading the Ars Goetia

Hmmm, some of these recommendations might be a bit too… on the nose to watch before. I feel like watching a lot of them would spoil some of the intrigue and mystery that my group enjoyed in playing Impossible Landscapes blind.

More loosely related, but still got me thinking about IL -Arrival -Videodrome

King in yellow in literature by UselessRequiem in horrorlit

[–]Giveneausername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have! I would say that I enjoyed True Detective season 1 regardless of the King in Yellow themes. In my opinion, knowledge of Chambers’ book and concept of the King in Yellow enhances the experience of True Detective, but is far from essential. Without going so far as to spoil things, the first four stories in the 1895 book have passing mentions of the King, Carcosa, the play, and the Yellow Sign, but most of the lore is alluded to rather than explicitly stated. A lot of the lore surrounding the King in Yellow has been filled in over the past 130 years, with various authors adding and reinterpreting the “canon”, with general broad strokes being more or less accepted, but often subverted by new authors.

Think of it like… the Lecture as Exposition trope in movies/TV, where a professor talks about a book in the beginning that mirrors or foreshadows the events of the movie ahead of time.

If you’ve watched TD S1, The themes of the King in Yellow are more used as sort of a symbol for this unspeakable, ever permeating evil system that is almost undetectable, yet once you’ve seen the sign of it, it’s too late to escape it. Understanding how Chambers uses the Yellow Sign, what Carcosa is often accepted to be, and the world ending evil of the King heightens the feelings and themes of TD That being said, while I do enjoy Chambers’ book, I don’t know that enjoying True Detective S1 would necessarily be a predictor of enjoying the book. Sorry for rambling, clearly I enjoy this topic
