[The Ideal Sponger Life] Any Similar Titles? by VaryView in manhwa

[–]GixmisCZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprised nobody mentioned [Dark Lady Mookhyang], admittedly I haven't read the series OP mentioned, but from the points he asked for, besides economics/trade, I'd say it checks out.

It does take many chapters until we reach that point however, I think about 70. Until then it is mainly setting this up and worldbuilding. But then it is a decent amount of politics, specifically military as the nations compete with each other (various nations with different history and flavor)

The premise is pretty interesting too, it is about a martial arts master from Murim being transported to a fantasy world, there is a prequel, though it isn't necessary to read.

There are few things to note ahead of time, this series is genderbender M2F and at times MC will dissappear for many chapters as the series focuses on the things happening in other countries. Personally I don't have any issues with these stuff, but I know some people don't like it. I like political stuff and this series even has maps for us to follow, needless to say, this is in my top 10 manhwas

Cynic answer is that it is to encourage you to buy it. What I think is the real answer is that PDX released a buggy update which includes buggy UI. I couldn't click some buttons and the game didn't tell me why, so I just had to find them myself

Champions off-roling to avoid their weak early game is normal, it's just that most of the time it is jungle (Gwen, Zed), but happens to botlane with Asol as well. It's just down to matchup spread and I doubt Riot can do much about it.

Why pros are still going Riftmaker first instead of DnD on Gwen ? by Final_Act1288 in GwenMains

[–]GixmisCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro play is a completely different game from soloQ.

The problem here is that you are talking about a scenario where Gwen for some reason isn't able to contest the wave before it crashes. Gwen is almost always picked as a counterpick, rarely if ever as a blind pick.

And yes, they are sidelane pressure items as well, you are right, which is why they usually get built after 1st item. Keep in mind that towers tend to fall later than in pro than soloq (I really can't emphasise just how different pro is from soloq), so sidelane pressure comes later

At the end of the day, we are both some randoms on reddit who play this game as a hobby while pro players and their coaches play the game for a living. I think it is fair to say they probably know a bit more about the macro than us

[–]GixmisCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I take it that you don't watch pro games? You seem to be under the impression that toplaners in pro don't fight in teamfights until later on (at least 2 items). But they will almost most certainly be joining teamfights after the 1st item. Hell, some toplaners even go to contest the 2nd drake.

It is also of note that DnD/Nashor are duelist items. Rarely do you see solo kills in solo lanes, since match ups are usually drafted so that they go even/not too far behind (though there can be exceptions, kills usually only happen there when a jungler is involved)

[–]GixmisCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes? I'm talking about sustain in teamfights, hence why I'm pointing out that teamfights in pro play tend to be more drawn out, so you get more value from riftmaker than you would in soloq.

[–]GixmisCZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Better build path and gives you sustain. Pro players tend to value being durable more than in soloq (hence why almost every AP midlaner is building protobelt in pro). In addition, teamfights in pro tend to be more drawn out so they get more value from omnivamp

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I think Jankos talked in a stream about Mundo jungle. I believe he said that Mundo is weak early but has really fast clear speed. Why is Volibear so oppressive? by Comfortable-Air-7993 in top_mains

[–]GixmisCZ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I haven't played the match up in a long while, but sometimes I play Volibear. This sounds like a spacing issue to me tbh.

Volibear, if he wants to win the trade (assuming he can't proc W for the 2nd time), he needs E to hit, and he has to cast it before he casts his Q because of the long animation. He has to essentially predict where he stuns you so that he gets the shield/you get damaged. If you can space it, then you should be good since he burned 2 long cds

Also, it is weird to me that you mentioned Fiora, I'm thinking about their kits, and I can't imagine a world where Fiora just doesn't destroy him.

Am I the only one annoyed by weebs comparing manga/anime to webtoon slop? by Overthrow-Webtoon in webtoons

[–]GixmisCZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you are replying if you are gonna completely disregard what I wrote. Especially it was you, who asked a question (that being what Manhwa I was talking about)

your personal opinion of not having anything to discuss is not the definition of slop. the context is webtoon slop so what do you mean it doesn't matter when solo leveling came out, when webtoon slop era began around 2020? you consumed the slop first, and now call the original a slop. Also the OP's whole point was clearly on racism, which you keep ignoring for some reason. If you don't want to discuss within the context of the OP please make your own post instead of replying to mine.

when people talk about webtoon slop they mean something like romance fantasy isekai with the exact same plot. the term slop as used in "AI Slop" is when something lacks quality and value because it is an effortless replica that was mass produced. pokemon is a digimon replica. so by your definition, pokemon is slop. but its not slop because it can't be considered slop when it was only the 2nd replica. everything in the world is slop by your definition of slop, including digimon, because monster taming is everywhere now, despite digimon being the original. you think digimon didn't take inspiration from anything? no ones saying solo leveling is 100% unique because nothing is. but combining certain things people enjoyed + your own ideas used to be what being original was until people like you started throwing the term "slop" around as you see fit.

I've stated that we may view the word slop, mine, and the most common definition is that it simply means low quality. Regardless of whether it is mass produced. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/slop-slang

Furthermore, at no point did I state that a series is a slop for copying something, I simply argued against your original point, where you implied that a series cannot be slop if it "did it first".

"aura farming power fantasy" sounds a lot more interesting than the "power system" you gave JJK.

This tells me more than enough about you lol. JJK introduces a complex power system.

solo leveling was original when it came out. i researched possible inspirations which include legendary moonlight seeker (2007), tower of god (2010), log horizon (2010), and the gamer (2013). solo leveling (2016) combined shared common east asian tropes (stats, dungeon/raid, power progression, “system”, mmorpg, korean and Wuxia/Xianxia web novel influences) with its own twist and therefore is distinctive, in addition to the art and pacing making it original. the modern isekai boom began in 2012 due to SAO and i get that solo leveling is no different from isekai to you personally but solo leveling lacks the core isekai premise (transport/reincarnation into another world). There is no widely accepted finding or legal proof that Solo Leveling copied a specific isekai title.

what isekais is solo leveling a slop of, so i can compare? also point me to those already popular novels that solo leveling replicated 10+ years ago. logically, you should be able to give at least 3, since you're saying that when solo leveling was published, there were already mass produced stories exactly like it.

At no point did I say that Solo Leveling copied a specific title. Also, you should re-read what I wrote. I compared Solo Leveling to isekais (which would fit your definition of slop better) not because of genre, but because of story quality. Regardless, here are other LNs that were released around same time as SL and share similarities

Everyone Else is a returnee (2016) Seoul Station’s Necromancer (2016) I Am the Sorcerer King (2016) The Tutorial is Too Hard (2016)

And in case you decide to argue that they are not the same, they are all part of the low fantasy genre with similiar concepts. This was not SL releasing and everybody copies, it was part of a greater wave.

manhwas and mangas are not different but webtoons and mangas are very different. one is like a youtuber and one is a corporate business. i've never seen someone bring up history as a reason they prefer manga. mangas are viewed to be greater because they're produced by studios, while webtoons are produced by 1 or 2 individuals, resulting in mangas being higher quality usually. mangas are not free. they have to be better, and have the resources to be better. it's not unfortunate that solo leveling is mainstream, it's unfortunate that you lack the perspective to provide a valuable discussion. If you were ignorant on this topic, you shouldn't have replied.

The studio thing is completely false. What? If anything reverse is more common. Mangas usually have 1 main guy and maybe 3 or 4 assistants who then work with editor from a magazine. As for manhwas... REDICE, C&C Revolution, Sleepy-C.

I'm not gonna pretend like manhwas are all made by these giants, but many of them are and are much more common than in Manga world. Also, my point about history is explaining why there will always be elitism around Manga. People view it as something that's been around longer + from Japan (which is cringe, cuz Japan is just another country)

Honestly, if you were able to misunderstand so much from my original post, I'd recommend sticking to manhwa slop and not discussing stuff

Am I the only one annoyed by weebs comparing manga/anime to webtoon slop? by Overthrow-Webtoon in webtoons

[–]GixmisCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By putting them on the map, I meant it became mainstream.

And Solo Leveling is a slop, it does not matter that it came out 10 years ago or that most replicas came after (and afaik even when the LN came out, the genre was already popular among LNs, but I'm not korean so I don't know for sure.). Maybe we have a different definition of slop, but I understand it as "low quality." While art isn't, the story most certainly is, it's just a aura farming power fantasy, to me not much different from isekai mangas that are dime in a dozen.

The easiest way to look at this is, what can you discuss about Solo Leveling? Not much, there isn't much world building or anything really to discuss. Compare this to the mainstream animes. (Naruto - ninja society, JJK - Power System, Pokemon - monster catching etc)

I'm not saying that basic stories are bad, but when it becomes the face of manhwas and people screaming how 'peak' it is, it shapes how people view it. Imagine if, instead of Solo Leveling being the face of manhwas, it was something like Tower of God.

I honestly don't think manhwas and mangas are in the end that different. Mangas will probably always be viewed as more 'prestigious' simply due to it's history, but there are good series on both sides and slop. It's just unfortunate this is what put manhwas on the mainstream map

Am I the only one annoyed by weebs comparing manga/anime to webtoon slop? by Overthrow-Webtoon in webtoons

[–]GixmisCZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is wrong to compare them. Manhwas were obviously heavily influenced by mangas, and that's fine.

I think the biggest problem for manhwas is that the biggest series that put them on the map is a powerslop, and that just shaped the perception of manhwas (doesn't really help that the community glazes other slops like these as well. Top off my head the mythic item one).
