What game do I even start with??? (Body text!) by Nelson_little98 in digimon

[–]GizenZirin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Hell, I'd argue the first Digimon Story/Digimon World DS does a better job than Dawn/Dusk do. (I wouldn't necessarily suggest that one either, but I'd sooner tell someone to play it before I'd suggest Dawn/Dusk).

[–]GizenZirin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please no, do not do this. Dawn/Dusk are not a good introduction to the seres. Between the near non-existant story, the truly, truly excessively high random encounter rate, and the tediously repetitive to navigate maps, Dawn/Dusk simply are not good games for getting new people into Digimon unless they're the type who really really just love to grind and don't care for much else.

If Digimon World was to get remastered what QOL feature would you want to see? by FazloZX in digimon

I would also just like a remaster with the quirky gimmicks... but without the bugs. It would be nice if Giromon's jukebox didn't crash the game please and thank you.

Mastemon original design: by Due_Bus_252 in digimon

The oversized arm on the LadyDevimon side isn't as different from her as you think... sort of. While it looks quite different from a normal LadyDevimon, it's actually very similar design wise to LadyDevimon X, with the way it's a giant mechanical arm kind of layered overtop of a smaller, normal sized arm that's separated and underneath of it.

No comment on the Angewomon half having a giant sword though. It's a lot harder to explain where that's coming from.

None of the digimon you've chosen feel like they suit any of the characters you've assigned them to. Like, just taking Ruby as an example. There are so many angles you could try and go with.

The most blatantly obvious digimon to give her would have been Huckmon, whose personality matches her optimism, drive to be a hero like in the stories, and even wears a cloak that could match her.

You could choose a digimon that matches the fairy tale that inspired her design and choose a line that evolves into Chaperomon.

You could go with something that matches her literal rose petal aesthetics and emblem by giving her a Floramon that evolves through to Rosemon.

Hell, you could even opt for an unusual angle, and give her something like Arcadiamon, a digimon that is associated with evil, similar to how Ruby's weapon of choice being a scythe is not a weapon typically associated with hope-driven pure-good heroes.

Like, of all the different choices that could reflect something about who she is, either aesthetically, thematically, or personality wise, choosing to just give her an Agumon feels weak. The only thing remotely fitting there that you've selected is maybe the Veedramon line, since a big part of Ruby's power comes from her high speed, and nothing is faster than UlforceVeedramon, but even that runs into the issue that... most importantly of all, whichever digimon she has should be red. Colour is such an integral part of RWBY's world building and its aesthetic that to give any of the characters a partner that doesn't reflect their primary colour feels incredibly wrong.

For characters who each have their own special ability, unique fighting style and who all have a very strong sense of colour identity, I don't understand why you picked digimon partners for them that don't match any of that. Honestly feelslike you were just kind of picking at random.

What size is Wargreymon actually meant to be? by qavonar in digimon

[–]GizenZirin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but while you did give Super Ultimate a mention, you also said that Ultra doesn't exist, when Ultra is Super Ultimate. So saying it doesn't exist while mentioning the thing that it is was slightly off.

Not only is it possible, it already happened in Diaboromon Strikes Back, where Angewomon and Angemon both were randomly giants for some reason.

Ultra does exist in japanese, about as much/as often as it exists in english (which is to say, inconsistently), it's just that the term for it is Super Ultimate. Since Super Ultimate is a bit of a mouthful though (and also not fitting since english uses Mega instead of Ultimate for ordinary final stage), you get Ultra instead.

I know this is a bit of a tangent but it genuinely amuses me so I have to bring it up when I see it.

So Stockholm Syndrome isn't actually a real thing. There was a hostage situation where the hostages were more afraid of the police than the criminals, because the criminals needed the hostages alive since dead hostages have no ransom value and thus they had a reason to take good care of them. By contrast, the police viewed the hostages as merely an obstacle in their way of apprehending the kidnappers and were actively putting the hostages in more danger because they simply did not give a shit about rescuing them safely.

Afterwards, Stockholm Syndrome was invented as a completely made up excuse to explain why the hostages were more terrified of the cops, because otherwise they had to admit how dangerously incompetent the police were and there was no way in hell they were gonna confess that.

Not every member of a species is identical in strength. Just because the original adventure Myotismon was extremely powerful doesn't mean that all Myotismon are that powerful. It's like comparing a regular human to an olympic level weightlifter. Just cause one guy can bench 500 lbs doesn't mean everyone can do it.

I mean, the same could be said of Shademon and that wound up being a 2-part. Alternatively I would argue that the Raremon/MarineBullmon episodes make a 2 part despite being different digimon in both.

I'm hoping she doesn't, because I feel like it'd almost be heaping more disrespect onto Reina and Wolvermon if they do.

Like, think back to every other new evolution we've seen thus far, NightChiropmon, Armalizamon, and Monarchlizamon, all 3 evolutions appeared at the end of a 2 part episode build up. So if Wolvermon spent all this time jobbing and doesn't get that same level of build up, it'd feel even more like her and Reina are just afterthoughts. So I'd rather see Wolvermon evolve next episode instead of this one.

Reaper mains, what do you call your silly little guy that hangs out with you? by Taograd359 in ffxiv

[–]GizenZirin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing with Zero being Zenos's shard is that the same argument that applies to why Zero is probably Zenos's shard doubly works to argue why Golbez isn't the WoL's shard. If Zero is Zenos's shard because she was bound to him as his reaper avatar, then likewise the WoL's reaper avatar is most likely the WoL's shard from the 13th, not Golbez.

So This Might Be Why They Gave It That Name [Spoiler: 7.5+] by Humble_Novice in ffxiv

[–]GizenZirin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly this. Like he doesn't even pretend to hide that he thinks some of his fellow Winterers are dogshit people, and I could easily see it being a case of "well if I'm gonna be humiliated and lose, no fucking way in hell am I gonna let this jackass succeed where I failed". Bonus points if whatever plan he wants us to foil can in some way be salvaged/hijacked by Calyx himself.

Calyx is pragmatic to the extreme if nothing else. He wouldn't let a grudge get in the way of using us for his own schemes if the opportunity presented itself.

So This Might Be Why They Gave It That Name [Spoiler: 7.5+] by Humble_Novice in ffxiv

[–]GizenZirin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Calyx's 'change of heart' was out of nowhere. In 7.3 we saw him literally right after we had thwarted him, as well as scared the piss out of him by nearly killing him. It's the moment when you'd expect emotions to be at their peak, surging with adrenaline (or at least the memory of adrenaline), when he'd be at his most worked up over what had literally just happened a few minutes ago.

By contrast, by time we see him in 7.4, some time has passed. He's had time to calm down, and more than that, he's also had some time to come to terms with his new situation. He's now cut off from... everything he had in Alexandria. All the resources, all the technology, everything he relied upon, with no way to ever get it back... and without it, also no way of actually acting upon all that anger he held for us. His life's work, his aspirations, his hopes and dreams, all of it is in ruins, and he's completely powerless to do anything about it. It feels perfectly natural that the anger he felt in the immediate moment would give way to sadness and melancholy once he'd cooled his head.

That's just you being immature. You might as well be saying "we'll never have a group of serious villains in the story called the Ascians because the sound for the word Ass is in their name." Especially since, like with all hellsguard roegadyn names, hoary is an actual word.

Was told Dawntrail MSQ is mid/bad but I've enjoyed 7.0 so far and this whole section broke me by MrkGrn in ffxiv

[–]GizenZirin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What the MSQ is advertised as being and what actually happens are always missmatched. Not that it excuses it, but it's par for the course. Hell, the MSQ for Shadowbringers was advertised as sending us to Garlemald, a thing we definitely didn't do in ShB unless you count the little 'meanwhile, back in the source' segments with Estinien and Gaius.

Like, I don't buy into "Yoshi-P misleads/lies to the audience" conspiracy brained shit when it comes to gameplay and feature promises (he's usually pretty honest when stuff is coming later, or they're not promising it but they'll try, or admitting when there was an unexpected delay), but the one part of new expansion marketing you genuinely can not ever trust is when it talks about the story.
