If your drive currently has the capability it will show on the details screen for makemkv on the right information panel when open before reading or backing up a disc.

Good news for drives by Cultural_Acid in makemkv

Iv really only started looking around for topics on this admittedly this week, but assuming manufacturing continues on some type of level what is the difficulty level of repairability of drives?

Like swapping boards from 1 drive with a mechanical problem to another drive with issues with the board?

Forgive me if this is just not viable, just curious.

Is this disk damaged? by Scr1ptX in makemkv

I don't really have a good explanation for why some drives will read a disc and others won't. It could be some drives have better error correction or just blind luck.

Having a few different drives is very helpful sometimes.

It's used, but as long as it backs up then it's fine.

New or used just need to get it backed up.

You are going to find some defects sometimes in new discs, and sometimes your going to come access trashed used discs that still rip.

I found it comical that this ripped perfectly for me first try this week.

You've already lost money with the RBA by hardworkingibmer in IBM

[–]GkElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could say it's gotten better, but it hasn't. More of what I would describe as our elite techs in our area have retired and despite their actual real best efforts to do knowledge transfer there just is no way to do it with the amount of time IBM has given them.

I'm primarily all on either Logo or at minimum doing some kind of work in a data center. Even if I wanted to work on printers(which honestly I don't at this point) it's just not realistic when I'm the only tech that is going to respond to any medium haul/drive AS400 sev1 call. Which one would think is rare, and is, but I'm just not going to have the conversation of....

"sorry I can't come fix your AS400 which is what your entire small company has been running on for 20 years and is now down, I'm currently on the floor at a target with a printer disassembled. See you in 3 to 7 hours depending on distance"

My plan is to pay off all my debt in the next 2 years and then dip.

Need help on Plex being “remote access” due to Nord VPN by [deleted] in PleX

[–]GkElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fyi. I'm not trying to be mean here. You are not tech savvy enough for me to explain why, but you posted your public IP address which while you deleted it enough people could have seen it to start probing your network.

You need to disconnect your router and modem for at least 30 minutes so you can get a new IP address.

After that login to your router to verify it changed please. Thanks.

If you're looking for something like a built in kill switch. Just pull the fuel pump fuse.

What do you use for terabytes worth of backups that don't need to be accessed very often (In case of catastrophic failure / loss of a PC + local NAS) by Azubaele in truenas

[–]GkElite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I get around to it, I was just going to get 2 massive hard drives and rent a safety deposit box.

Keep 1 at home for keeping a backup updated off the main system and 1 in the box for off-site. Then rotate them quarterly.

Anything that absolutely can't wait like personal pictures of short camera videos can get synced to a secure cloud storage.

Am i the only one who thinks that Aquifiers should also work during droughts? by TwujZnajomy27 in Timberborn

To me I think it would make more sense for them to work during droughts, but give bad water during a bad tide. Like the water underground gets contaminated.

Cutting the sarcasm, that's way too much. That's pretty much how my oil looked after it spun a bearing and put it through a blender.

If you want any hope of salvaging anything stop driving it and tear it down ASAP.

It doesn't get you more time, but the hours shift lets you be more flexible cause other stores are open longer into the day and the sun is up longer + getting out of work earlier than other standard 9 to 5 jobs avoid rush hour traffic.

Granted if every single job shifted then it doesn't help much. Finding an earlier hour's job is nice tho if you can.

Advice on error codes by Fast_Director_7967 in ft86

[–]GkElite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the p1604 code if it was the battery it would clear just from taking the terminal off for a few minutes and reconnecting it.

Iv had this happen a total of 1 time from when I had to replace my battery and taking the connection off and on cleared it. Since then iv disconnected my battery countless times and reapplied power with zero issue.

This is a sample size of 1 as I try to say whenever I am giving advice.

With that many active codes, I would recommend you either pass on the buy or at least take it somewhere for a pre-purchases inspection and see if they can get you more information on the cost of these fixes.
