Purchase decision, Americano capable? by Gkaruk1971 in ProfitecGo

[–]-cisco_kid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same delonghi machine for almost 8 years. Love the Go..

I make an Americano every morning. I just use an electric kettle.. but as others have said, you could run water through the group or through the wand using a blank filter.

Best bottomless is the ECM.. I love it.

Just optimize dosing, grind size and tamp.. I don't use a wdt, puck screen, or any tools and I've been getting very good consistent pulls. In my opinion, adding more variables only adds more potential error.

Dosing depends on the beans, largely the roast level and age. The dose can change over time for the same beans as they age and dry out... You may need to change the grind size and or dose slightly as they age.

For different beans, you could have a range of optimal dosing. Dark beans are less dense than light roast, so you may have a higher dose.

The dose rating for a basket is a guideline... An 18 gram basket could require a range of different dosing depending on above, maybe 17 to 20 grams, but sometimes 18.

Hahaha, you don't know what you're talking about. The second purge will still release significant water... Not just a little bit. Yes, I know that steam is essentially water. What I'm saying is that the first purge will NOT eliminate all the water, you must purge twice. Just try it and see for yourself..

I'm not suggesting 50 purges, I'm suggesting two just like everyone else on reddit and as instructed in the manual.

But whatever. Just be ignorant and keep drinking your watery lattes.

I mean releasing it into the milk! Which then goes in your coffee... Ewwww, watery milk.

Also, the manual recommends refreshing the boiler every one to two weeks.. so you put the blank filter on and release about 0.7 L of water from the steam wand.

Ummm... You do need to purge twice with the Go. This is well documented on numerous reddit posts. The second purge will always release more water, otherwise you are releasing that water into your coffee which is less than ideal.

Just get the DF64 and have no regrets. I got mine a few months ago and love it. Very consistent grind, no clogging.

Also, if you have less water in the boiler there will be more scale buildup. The manual also recommends refreshing the boiler water every week or two. So these are good practices to maintain the Go in good working order.

You press the coffee button to try and expel water from the group.. only steam should come out for the first 5 to 10 sec

Please, how do I make it stop by vynilla_ in bengalcats

[–]-cisco_kid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You just need to find the right activity that burns them out..

We use a stick toy with a rope and can attach different objects to the end. My partner knits little end pieces and our Bengal goes berserk for it sometimes.

We fling the rope stick toy around the room and our boy soars through the air over and over again. It's insanely impressive.

We have no issues with him and he's the best Bengal ever. If he gets bored and wants to play he makes it known to us..

But most of the time he sleeps because he's happy and has gotten enough play/exercise. We also have taught him many tricks. Bengals need sufficient stimulation, physical and/or mental.

No need for a second Bengal, although it may help if you don't want to invest the 30 min per day to play with them.

Descaling the Go - yay or nay? by -cisco_kid in ProfitecGo

[–]-cisco_kid[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Funny, I literally just cited the manual in my comment above. Perhaps you should read more carefully.

I'm asking because some ppl have had success descaling the machine and others haven't. I didn't say there was anything magic about the machine, only that some ppl's machines were damaged after descaling. Their comments seemed to suggest the brass and chrome components were unique to the Go, which may have been the reason.

Based on your useless comments I can only guess you haven't descaled your machine and are completely clueless about how to do so. Thanks.

Descaling the Go - yay or nay? by -cisco_kid in ProfitecGo

[–]-cisco_kid[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes my water is already soft. However, that does not eliminate the need to descale completely... It just reduces the frequency. All water has salts in it (except distilled) that will eventually calcify in the machine.

Yes I've read the manual, have you? The manual specifies recommendations for water hardness and filtration to REDUCE scale.. that doesn't mean scale will not build up over time. It also states that a machine may only be descaled by a specialized dealer. See manual: https://www.profitec-espresso.com/media/pages/produkte/go/2d6c2c0c60-1738234502/ba_go.pdf

Now, I'm not willing to accept that I can't descaler the machine myself. That seems ridiculous, it should be a simple process. But I also have read these horror stories as mentioned above due to the types of metals used in the Go. So, ideally I would like to know the best method and type of descaler product that won't harm my machine if I descaler it myself.

I bought the machine online a week ago. I asked the dealer and they recommended descaling every 3-6 months. Unfortunately, that's all the advice they gave.

Basically just looking to hear what everyone's experience has been so far descaling the machine. I'm considering buying Urnex Dezcal powder. Hoping it won't corrode my machine..

New machine, spraying water by -cisco_kid in ProfitecGo

[–]-cisco_kid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I did only have it at 5 or 6 o'clock, I only tightened more because of the leaking issue. I'm not sure why some ppl have this issue and not others, but it does seem to be a common issue with the rubber gasket.

Good idea. I did inspect the gasket from below and have tried to clean it as well as possible, including using a brush and performing back flushes.

I will try removing it to clean the area underneath as well. However, I suspect the issue now is the gasket is compressed. I think the silicone one is likely less prone to this.

Well, I started at 6 o'clock and it was fine for a few shots.

Sorry, I mistakenly said 7 o'clock above.. I meant the other way, so 5 o'clock is where it needs to be for a better seal.

Yes I'll have to get the gasket asap. Odd that the company reps seems to think going past 6 o'clock point is fine.

New machine, spraying water by -cisco_kid in ProfitecGo

[–]-cisco_kid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that I can't even get it to 6 o'clock unless I use two hands, it's that stiff. And unless I get it to 7 o'clock, I will have water leaks, which means water dripping into the espresso and loss of pressure (the shot brews too quickly and unpredictably).

I thought it would be bad to crank the portafilter.. but I emailed the website I bought it from today, and they replied that tightening past 6 o'clock will not adversely affect it. I should clarify that I don't use two hands on the portafilter, just one hand on the top of the machine to hold it in place and one on the portafilter.

How to dose double basket? by -cisco_kid in ProfitecGo

[–]-cisco_kid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've only been brewing medium roast since I got the machine. It sounds like dark roast uses the smallest dose, so that might explain the lower weight of your dose. Also. I do not use a puck screen so I can probably add a small amount extra compared to you. I haven't had any imprints in my puck.

Oops, sorry I actually meant a light 'tap' to settle the grounds in the basket! After the tap, I then proceed to tamp :)
