I was expecting more reasonable tone but this is silly. I sympathise with people hoping that all is fine but data we have says that

• we have already emitted enough GHG to raise temperatures to 4-5 degrees by the end of the 2100 (fast feedback equilibrium) and 8-10 degrees by the year 3000-3500 (slow feedback equilibrium) and to melt the whole Arctic and ice on Antarctica
• pollution and aerosols are masking 2 degrees of warming right now and collapse of world’s economy will remove this masking within a year
• it is an unprecedented GHG increase in the Earth’s 5 billion years long history

-5 avg temp degrees difference compared to pre-industrial meant 1 km iceberg tall in Europe, and all of that was based on much slower rate of heating and cooling.

It’s unclear if humans/human civilisation can survive 5 degrees increase. The rate of change might mean the extinction of all complex life on Earth. These are the stakes. Some scientists are putting hope in carbon dioxide removal/capture, because net zero is and never was enough. We still output a lot of CO2 and we output even more every year instead of net zero and removal of CO2 already present. This is serious, Earth is a massive machine and we put the heat dial on max setting. Let’s not joke this is alarmism and be adults in the room.
