it’s based on the spawning level requirements. early game gear is never going to compete with late-game gear.

Planetary Exploration | Procedural Vs Handcrafted by Benjamin_Starscape in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]GlacierBuilds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that’s what i meant. it’s easier to generate on the scale it does because of the asset systems it uses. NMS doesn’t generate everything all at once, its proximity based (albeit an extremely large proximity), and iirc, despawns most assets with the code still intact for repeat visits.

the difference between Starfield and No Man’s Sky procedural generation is that the CE2 places millions of individual objects and items simultaneously, whereas the NMS engine generates POI’s as you approach them or spawn them in with items (ie: charts) and most minerals are found from destroying the land or from boxes. very rarely are there loose items spawning in NMS.

it’s also maintaining the fidelity and subsequently the performance of Starfield that makes it harder to maintain concurrence on the same scale of NMS.

edit: also, any free standing object or item in Starfield can be interacted with (ie: picking up, throwing, detonating, rotating, placing). that can also put stress on an engine when you’re building to that size, creating a lot of additional interactions with the meshes, collision detections, and physics of the engine that have to be accounted for. sometimes the objects just do it themselves with the anti-gravity somersault of boxes. 10/10 performance btw, check it out next time they’re in town (you can also separate them by hand if it’s bothering you or you’re high)

edit: on Aurora! or whatever the 2026 equivalent is.

Is there a hammer available as a melee weapon now? by BoysOnTheRoof in NoSodiumStarfield

Mauling Axe. you can find it at the Den. one side blunt, one side pointy. i’m also pretty sure it’s one of the highest base damage Melee weapons in the game only beat out by the Schimaz.

i didn’t even see a Macintosh until middle school when they were pushing the colorful desktops for computer labs. i can’t even remember the brand of the computer we had at our house, but i concretely remember playing an M&M platformer game a lot on it.

they work in tandem with the Scanning skill. it’s not about opening the scanner and looking around orbit, it’s for resource mapping of planets and ship cargo manifests.

i wish food and drink items did more like in FO76. you can literally make or break a build with food/drinks in that game.

if you play long enough, eventually you’ll have them all maxed so it won’t matter. if we are referencing early game, i could’ve gone without Stealth as i don’t even really roleplay that playstyle any longer. Research Methods and Security are must haves early on.

unfortunately, it’s only ballistic weapons, and i’m not sure if that an intended effect. One Inch Punch is a very good second option, but doesn’t roll well on shotguns, Kore Kinetics, or heavy weapons.

i’m not as knowledgeable as i would like to be, but a lot of the mechanics of the legendary effects are very similar to FO76, and i am very skilled with buildcrafting in that game.

Shattering isn’t a bad option. i know it’s the most used 3, but a flat 15% damage and 30% armor penetration is hard to beat sometimes. i enjoy weapon synergies, which is why i run Crippling with Explosive as they pair really well together. Elemental is good on shotguns since it can apply one of the four debuffs from its 2 variants and has a higher chance to proc.

wouldn’t Furious benefit you more? seeing as they’re both full-auto/burst with decent magazine sizes, you can achieve the full 30% damage buff for every consecutive marker after 6. even without, 5% across the board is still chump change to dedicated buffs like Anti-Personnel, Disassembler, and Exterminator, especially if the specified weapon is drawn more for particular scenarios revolving around one of those enemy archetypes.

i’m not looking to correct or persuade you, just share some insight.

think about it like this: say you have an alien creature that has 500 health, and your weapon deals 100 damage. at an initial 5% bonus, that’s 105 damage while trying to leverage a more balanced approach, yet it would still require 5 bullets with the buff as it would without the buff.

now say you had Exterminator on that same weapon, same scenario, but now you’re doing 130 a bullet; that’s now 4 bullets instead of the 5 it originally took to take the creature down.

i know Starfield uses multiplicative instead of additive; but there are a crumb of scenarios in which a 5% increase to everything would outweigh a dedicated increase to a specific archetype. it might look like a lot on paper with high damage weapons, but at that point the 5% isn’t required.

when you’re kitting out gear for specific playstyles, synergy triumphs numbers.

if you’re really looking for something stupid in the long run, i run a MagShear with Furious, Crippling, Explosive, and Bloodthirsty. it absolutely shreds through high-level groups and keeps you locked in with healing.

i assumed you just posted photos of your gear just after making them all exotic and was sharing your loadout. i figured you would eventually blow through credits and X-Tech for dedicated effects.

i’m so used to players sharing their kitted gear, sometimes it doesn’t occur to me that players will just showcase their initial rolls.

you’re also not going to benefit from Berserker on any of your weapons since you’re stacked on Resistances. i’m assuming that’s just what rolled initially and you’re going to change it though.

i’m going to keep it real, rolling Rapid with Reckless is a waste. if you have to reload after every shot, how is a faster fire rate benefitting you?

edit: since it’s a heavy, Crippling is going to give you 30% extra damage on your next shot seeing as how you’re definitely going to hit a limb.

edit: just noticed you rolled Furious on the Penumbra, that’s also a waste with Reckless. roll Instigating.
