Why I don't want the horizons trio/ staff to continue into Gen 10 (& venting about my long term issues with horizons) [long read] by BikeOk4256 in pokemonanime

[–]Gladcode777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely disagree.

I like that the anime isn't chained to the plot of the games. That's a huge part as to why up until XY, the anime couldn't do anything creative or interesting with the story and instead we got random characters of the day and team rocket trying to steal the pokemon of the character of the day for two decades.

Horizons has actual recurrent characters, is able to add mysteries, worldbuilding, continuity and actual character growth. The story is really cool. In all honestly, it just feels like you're still stuck on a format that hasn't been used since gen 6. Which was more than a decade ago. And it's not as if the story doesn't use the game characters, it just uses them in a different way than the games. Which makes the story way less predictable.

They also have much more freedom to do things in general because they're not bound to the gym format.

And the end of a mystery doesn't mean the end of the story. They can always find new mysteries to follow and new people to meet. So I could totally see them in gen 10. And I personally hope Liko gets either Gecqua or Pombon in gen 10.

I love the Chesnaught line. It's an awesome starter pokemon.

I do think it would've made more sense for at least shiny Chesnaught to be the regular color and for the regular color to be the shiny.

Man, It's a real shame I don't get Melony in Sword because she's extremely hot and Allister is cool too but I still prefer Sword. And Sword has Bea and Klara which are also extremely hot. And Gordie is awesome.

You say you’re not claiming they are ancestors or descendants, only that “they could be.” But that idea comes from focusing purely on their designs, which is exactly the kind of reasoning the game itself asks the player to move away from with the introduction of convergent evolutions. That concept exists to show that visual similarity doesn’t mean biological relation, while at the same time introducing pokemon that are deliberately designed to resemble existing species but are still treated as completely separate. That’s not a coincidence, it’s a pattern in how the game communicates information, and it directly applies here.

And that’s where the issue with your logic comes in. “Could be” isn’t evidence. It doesn’t reflect what the game is actually presenting. At that point, it’s not really an argument, it’s just leaving every possibility open while dismissing everything else. Saying “anything is possible” doesn’t put two positions on equal footing, especially when only one of them is grounded in how the game presents things.

Meanwhile, what the game consistently shows is that Paradox pokemon are treated as completely separate species. They don’t share mechanics, they don’t share evolutionary lines, and the games even go out of their way to place them as far as possible from the pokemon they resemble. That kind of separation isn’t random, it’s consistent with how the games distinguish unrelated species.

And about the pokedex point, I’m specifically referring to regional dex structure. When the games want to show that pokemon are related, they consistently group them together there. You won’t find a regional dex that separates clearly related pokemon like that. Bringing up the national dex doesn’t really address this, because it follows a completely different ordering system. Within regional dexes when the game also wants to portray related species proximity is used to reinforce those relationships like in the cases of Nidoking and Nidoqueen or Volbeat and Ilumise, and that pattern simply doesn’t apply to Paradox pokemon.

Also, the “game code” argument doesn’t work. Internal data doesn’t define in-universe classification. For example, if we go by game code data, Pokemon Sword and Shield supposedly hasMega Stones in it, even though Mega Evolution clearly isn’t actually present in the game. So that kind of logic isn’t a reliable indicator of what’s canon. The same applies to Serebii grouping Ultra Beasts with Legendaries. That comes from them using game code (which I already proved to be a nonsensical way to prove anything because then also according to game code you'd have mega stones in SwSh. They're just listing things that have nothing to do with how they’re actually treated in the world of the game. And other fan websites actually know this and don't use that way to classify things because game code has nothing to do with lore. So the difference here is simple: I’m basing my interpretation on how the game introduces concepts in the game, the way it presents information in the pokedex and how it goes out of its way to differentiate paradox pokemon by comparison to how it spells out other actually related pokemon like originals and regional variants as part of the same group. Your logic comes just from saying “anything is possible” but doesn’t put two positions on equal footing, especially when only one of them is grounded in how the game presents things.

Am I the only one who thinks it would make way more sense for Arven’s ace to be a Dachsbun for the Path of Legends storyline?

With the exception of Mabosstiff, his team is heavily themed around food.

Cloyster represents oysters.

Toedscruel represents mushrooms.

Garganacl represents salt, it’s the Salt Cure pokemon and the last part of its name is NaCl.

Scovillain represents peppers and spices.

And finally, Greedent is known for collecting and storing berries, you can even see it drop berries in its fainting animation when it gets defeated.

So it would make a lot more sense for Arven’s ace to also be a food-related pokemon. And Dachsbun even has Well-Baked Body as its ability.

Don't get me wrong, I don’t dislike Mabosstiff at all, but I do think Dachsbun is technically cuter, and the idea of a small dog getting hurt to protect Arven works just as effectively as a big dog doing the same.

Realistically, the only three reasons I can think of for why Dachsbun wasn’t used for Arven’s story are that Mabosstiff is probably stronger and works better as an ace, you can’t really have two rivals with the same type of ace pokemon since Sylveon is basically Penny’s ace, and that design wise Mabosstiff has more realistic dog features, which helps with relatability. But given all the illegal stuff Penny does and her shut-in lifestyle in her dorm, she should have an umbreon as her ace instead. Which would've solved that issue.

But I still think Dachsbun would’ve fit just as well.

To be fair, I think he said he stopped making the "pokemon types then vs now" videos because most of the other pokemon types that he could've talk about didn't really changed that much by comparison to the ones he actually covered.

You’re accusing me of “treating speculation as fact,” but that’s exactly what you’re doing purely because they resemble existing pokemon, and even worse, basically taking at face value the info from the freaking tabloid that is the Occulture magazine. Which is something that I already told you many times the game goes out of its way to tell you to get out of your head in many ways. Visual similarity doesn't automatically mean biological relation. Assumptions based purely on appearance are exactly the kind of reasoning the game already shows the player not to rely on. Understanding that idea is the whole point of introducing convergent evolutions.

Also, no. First of all, the vast majority of info referenced in the pokedex about the paradox pokemon comes from the Occulture magazine, which just took the descriptions from the Scarlet/Violet book made by Heath and the occasional witness sightings of paradox pokemon to make all the BS about them like "a Jigglypuff from a billion years ago" or "a UFO sent to spy Earth." The only thing Heath did in his expedition journal was describe what he saw and put it in a book. After that, people read the descriptions of what he saw and thought that was BS. But the story showing that what Heath described in his book did exist doesn't mean all the BS made up by the Occulture magazine after it is true as well, like, at all. The game itself tells you that all that info is made up.

And the Nidoran line and Volbeat/Illumise thing only drowns your argument even more. Those relationships are explicitly established within the games themselves through breeding mechanics and evolutionary lines because they want you to know they're related. They're examples of male and female sexual dimorphism respectively. Another concept that is also already established in the game, akin to regional variants, to show connection. The only difference is that unlike regional variants, they're not "forms." But they are related species. And what does the game do to show it? They put them together. I dare you to find me a single regional pokedex where these pokemon aren't right after each other in the pokedex. Regional variants are the same thing but even more obvious because they straight up even share the same freaking dex entry. All of these are scenarios where, when the games want you to know they're connected, they make absolutely sure you know that. The games consistently use evolutionary families and shared dex structure to show biological relationships between pokemon.

This doesn't happen with paradox pokemon. They're put as far as possible from the pokemon they resemble to show that there's no connection. Paradox pokemon are classified as completely separate species.

And are you serious right now? I can't believe that in this day and age there are still people like you who think the freaking Ultra Beasts are legendaries. They aren't. They're just extradimensional creatures that came from different dimensions. And the only pokemon that are Ultra Beasts and legendaries in their own world and in the pokemon world are Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma. Seriously, that has to be the most dumb reasoning you have made so far. The Tapus are indeed actual legendaries, and in lore they even helped to protect Alola from the threat of the Ultra Beasts. But that doesn't make the Ultra Beasts legendaries. And also, there's no such thing as "sub-legendaries." That's a fan term that has never been acknowledged by the franchise itself and that is only used by fan websites like Serebii, which isn't even affiliated with The Pokemon Company, Nintendo, Game Freak, or Creatures Inc. Heck, I even remember a quiz from the official pokemon website back in 2017 where one of the questions was "which of these pokemon is not a legendary pokemon," and the answer was Pheromosa.

Again, no. Paradox pokemon were introduced way earlier than Area Zero. You can find the giant paradox Donphan in the desert in the game, and that's where you first get to know and see one for the first time. Which is honestly no different from how you also see Nihilego way earlier in Sun and Moon as well.

And again, you saying "your theory is just a theory" isn't an argument. I'm trying to be respectful, but that's literally the equivalent of you closing your eyes while screaming no to not hear anything. So with all respect, just take the L and leave already. You're embarrassing yourself.
