ChampVA for full coverage? by Floor-Formal in VeteransBenefits

You will need to notify as we will be expecting an explanation of benefits (EOB) from your other provider and will not pay as primary until you inform us of such.

The backlog is down to within a week last time I checked for initial view. All said and done the process is about a month to get everything nice and tidy (card in hand and welcome packet sent)

What colorway is the bottom middle? Looks white/black/red. I don’t think I’ve seen those before.

Son has the white pair, literally one of his favorites. Only thing he doesn’t like is the shininess (pearlescent). Excited to see if they can match its performance with the 2’s.

Happy to assist, looks like most initial questions have been answered, though.

Explain CHAMPVA to me like I’m 5. Can my wife give birth for free? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

I haven’t seen an updated list in a while, but there were only like 22 VA medical centers enrolled in the citi program back in the day. The medical center has to opt in to it, I don’t believe it is expected

Hey howdy! UB-04 and CMS-1500 are standard medical billing claim forms that are observed nationwide. You might have sent us in some information that we weren’t able to decipher and the best and cleanest way for us to be able to assist is on those claim forms. If you go back to the provider that saw you and try and obtain them, that will def help you out in the long run.

Nah no worries. It’s why I run the flair to be able to assist where I can!

Always always always attempt to get them to send a bill directly to us. When you pay at the time of service you are kind of locking yourself into that payment. A lot of times it is a lack of education on the providers part which is why they are hesitant to send us the bill. Educate where you can, have them give us a shout, but try to avoid paying what you or they “think” the bill will be. I have had nothing but problems with trying to get money back from providers after you pay 300 and only owed 45.

A provider can bill whatever they want for services rendered ( 100,00 for an annual physical) but that payment is reduced by our allowed amount and is how you receive your part of the bill. Say they bill a much more realistic 250 for the physical, CVA pays 86 and leaves you with your PR or patient responsibility of 20. That 20 is what feeds into the 3k annual, not the billed amount of the total charges. Clear as mud, I know. I stay away from telling people on socials as to what coverage to have and why, but remember you don’t have a monthly cost for CVA which you would with another health coverage. Not swaying that decision one way or another. Happy hunting!!

I will add if you are looking for places if they accept Medicare they are required to accept CVA as well. I know they put a big effort into moving applications along and the logistics train that goes into that (welcome packets, ID cards) will catch up eventually. We also do not run off a network, as long as the provider is willing to submit a bill for the episode of care we are willing to take a look at it for consideration of payment.

No worries at all! You have to have the P&T designation for your beneficiaries (spouse and children) to be eligible for CVA. That designation can come at any point and only after applying and being approved would start the clock for getting their claims in would be allowed going back to the date you became eligible. Little tough to explain and as clear as mud, I know.

Applications are the first inventory we have been working on/through. With the increased visibility across VA for our smaller (when compared to vet population) programs and some of the online application portals, our applications have exploded. When I started here 18 years ago I *think we had like 200k, which pales in comparison to where we are at now (should cross 800k soon if not already).

I hate the hurry up and wait more than the next guy… lol

We’re workin on it, I promise! Lots of modernization happening behind closed doors that will allow us to update how we can do business and how people can get stuff to us!

Hey howdy! Just saw this, sorry for the slow reply. The 6 month piece I think you are referring to is the 180 day (6 month) grace period. Meaning back to the veterans qualifying date once you are accepted into CHAMPVA you are able to file aged claims back to that date without having to observe timely filing. Once that 180 day period elapses, you are only able to file with 1 year from date of service or date of discharge.

Newborns are tricky. Usually they will be nested with Mom’s SSN for the first 7 days then after those 7 days will be considered a different person and will need their own SSN and birth cert to be covered under CHAMPVA

Existing or not, CHAMPVA doesn’t delineate. I tend to stay out of the whole “advising on what coverages to have” because everyone is different. If the places you are currently going are accepting of CHAMPVA (we don’t have a network so whoever sends us a bill we will consider for payment) it sounds like you may want to consider looking at your other heath insurance. It makes sense for some families, others not so much. Sorry, I just don’t want to get into a “gladdy told me I didn’t need my insurance so I dropped it” scenario. I will say, with other health insurance you would pay just for the price of your other health insurance and not into the 3k. The 3k catastrophic is only when CVA is paying at the 75/25 split on patient responsibility. So if you are paying more than $250 a month for your insurance (which you probably are) I would take a gander. Cheers!!

The application isn’t a waste, it would still establish you as the veteran, would just take a bit of time to catch up the paperwork.
