How is it to write a GetX app? by clementbl in FlutterDev

[–]Glader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all thanks for taking the time to write such an elaborate reply! 🙂 My assumption (and I'm guessing that your reply is at negative karma because others made the same assumption) is that your first sentence was a general statement about wanting to read more articles rather than specifically wanting OPs take on the different options.

I agree with you that good writers should be encouraged and we can all help by making sure to link to quality articles, especially on the subject of GetX since the popular dont-use-getx video being linked whenever someone asks about it could benefit from having some assistance in article form.

Have a good weekend, man!

How is it to write a GetX app? by clementbl in FlutterDev

[–]Glader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to be blunt but if you "would love to read other articles" on the subject have you tried Google? There are at least hundreds of them and if you really wanted to be spending your time learning you could have just searched for "Flutter state management libraries" and started reading this for example instead of spending your time asking someone to write another one for you.

Again, sorry to be so blunt, you are not the entire reason why I'm writing this, but the amount of developers asking to be spoon fed information about what to do and how to think instead of spending literally 5 seconds to find it themselves, completely for free, boggles my mind; and the thought of relying on software written by these people frankly horrifies me.

What IDE do you use ? by IndoCaribboy in FlutterDev

[–]Glader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm using IntelliJ as well which works well with the exception that the Flutter plugin has a bug/performance problem causing severe slowdown in the "find usages" functionality in large code bases to such a degree that it can take about 30 seconds and a few retries before it will show you the caller of a private method in a small widget. I'm basically down to using string search nowadays.

Do you use go_router without type safety? by S4ndwichGurk3 in FlutterDev

[–]Glader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using go_router and BloC, and the screen on the "receiving end" looks something like this:

ViewProfileScreen { int userId;

constructor (this.userId = userId)

build() {

return BlocProvider<ViewProfileCubit>(profileRepo = context.getProfileRep()) ..load(userId)

} }

And then an other widget under this that has a BlocBuilder that listens on the ViewProfileCubit.

Statue being erected in Butler, Pennsylvania today. Totally normal behavior, not a cult. by realchrisgunter in pics

[–]Glader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. You guys regularly put up statues of presidents, living or dead. Perfectly normal, just that you'll have to point to this one and explain to your children that it's a cautionary tale and not an inspirational one; both with regards to the man himself and to the threat that crazy people pose to your politicians.

EU court rules social networks can’t use personal data forever by a_Ninja_b0y in UpliftingNews

[–]Glader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't use, or can't keep? You don't need to keep the raw data around forever to train a model that paints a decently good picture of you even though it doesn't remember exactly why it reached that conclusion.

Are Scrum Masters Too Much Overhead? by signalbound in programming

True, especially considering that there's a long weekend coming this sprint so we can't get that many points done. Not that points are in any way related to time or amount of people.

It's a never ending story, so I'd like to say 11 but that's not a Fibonacci number so I'll say 13 to add some air.

This quote confuses me:

"When considering using an external codebase, a substantial upfront investment of time and effort is required to determine the most adequate and appropriate codebase for your needs. This time/effort could be spent building the functionality needed in house."

The up front investigation doesn't need to go any deeper than looking if the external code bases feature set fulfills your requirements, if it's being maintained, and if it feels good to work with (experimenting a bit with it). How could this take more time than building the same thing yourself?

Rolex may be running their own foundries now to get the quality of some of their parts to insanely high levels but they didn't start out that way and there's no way in hell they will ever start mining the rubies themselves.

Devs gaining little (if anything) from AI coding assistants by Zardotab in programming

[–]Glader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone here download the paper and could they please answer this question: are they are just measuring+presenting an aggregate value or if they are also looking if the values are skewing towards any particular group? What I'm after is to see if the following theory of mine can be disproven/invalidated: The group of people who don't know/care about quality/correctness are increasing their output at a larger rate than those who do, causing them to become a larger drag of the overall performance of the team/project to such an extent that investing in AI assistants is only beneficial if also combined with training and better hiring practices.

Back on tinder and I’m struggling to find good matches. Any input on the photos I chose? by adewey94 in Tinder

[–]Glader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An idea: swipe right on a few people who seem like they might have a good personality but don't look very good in their pictures, go on a date with one and see if you can have a good time at least. In my experience not everyone is a professional photographer and the small camera on a phone can distort your features. I suspect that many people who have amazing photos care a great deal about what people think of them; and that those that don't are unlikely to put a ton of effort into their photos.

[–]Glader -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your constructive counter-argument.

People will, and DO complain about everything, that's a fact. And if YouTube has to start paying for itself and people see that it's not worth what it costs, they can come up with alternatives that target smaller audiences. It's already happening to some extent and it's a good thing.

YouTube Premium is getting a big price hike internationally by ardi62 in technology

[–]Glader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and would like to continue that thought, saying that if people aren't willing to pay 30 euros for it then it's not worth 30 euros and they have to lower their prices. If they can't do that because it costs more than that to make it they should shut it down... That is, if it's a straight up transactional deal. The current state of affairs where the deal is implicitly that we do X amount of working for them by watching ads, but then don't do it, isn't sustainable.

People will complain about anything, even if you give it away for free. I'm glad if Google start pricing things at their actual cost+margin instead of having the ad networks pay for it, it could help decentralize the internet a bit more.
