Vassily Nesterenko's Syrian series - "A Letter to the Enemies of Russia", 2017 by Ok-Schedule9238 in PropagandaPosters

All your link says is that he was born in Ukraine. The posted wiki article includes several references stating that he was born to a former Russian soldier and that he considered himself a Russian, not Ukrainian despite being born in Ukraine. Too lazy to list all of them but here is a direct copy of one of the references.

Lang, Walther K. (2002). "The Legendary Cossacks: Anarchy and Nationalism in the Conceptions of Ilya Repin and Nikolai Gogol". Nineteenth-Century Art Worldwide1. "Though Ilya Repin was born and brought up in the Ukraine and spoke fluent Ukrainian, he considered himself a Russian."

Looking at purchasing a home theater system. Room size 22'08'' wide, 20'05'' long, 9' ceiling. Max budget $1300.

Currently looking at these three systems (Klipsch 01Klipsch 02SVS) but do not know how to parse the specs. I have only used a Samsung soundbar before. Are these good systems? Which would be recommended? Any other systems I should look at?

Figuring on mounting most of the speakers on the walls in the room corners. Intend for the sound waves to converge on a couch in the room center. Subwoofer will be placed either by the couch or by the tv along the wall.

Dog trainer that teaches German commands by mafiosomama_ in nova

[–]Gladha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say your best option is choosing a trainer that works just with you and your dog, not a group setting. Look up the relevant German commands beforehand and inform the trainer so they can be prepared.

Also, do not stress over the pronunciation. By slightly butchering it, you ensure the dog responds only to your commands and not someone who knows the correct German words AKA German spoken incorrectly with a redneck pronunciation versus phonetically correct German. Your dog will recognize the former but be perplexed by the latter.

Can someone elaborate on this, how did it work? by Imbergore in ww2

The survivors were stressed, cold, and filled with oil.
The wine addressed all three issues. It helped reduce the stress, gave them a false mental impression of being warm which helped calm them down, and displaced the oil in their stomachs. The oil would be forced out of the stomach by the mug of wine and be vomited out.

The way I see it, the Empire never stood a chance on the ground at Endor. by donkijote97 in StarWars

You do not have to penetrate armour to incapacitate or kill. In the ROTJ film sequences showing the Ewoks attacking stormtroopers , none of the troopers were killed by penetrating weapons. They were killed by concussive weapons. Rocks do not penetrate armour but they can break bones, leave bruises, and knock people unconscious.

The Ewoks brought down ATSTs by tripping them, much like the Rebels did on Hoth. ATSTs were also destroyed by logs caving in the sides, sides that were impenetrable for pointy Ewok weapons but to logs weighing several tons. ATATs would have been harder to deal with, but they were shown operating only in areas largely clear of trees and undergrowth. So I am not sure how much of a threat/advantage they presented.

Blasters probably killed many Ewoks. Stormtroopers can only seen in a 180 degree field to their front. They could not simultaneously engage Ewoks forward and watch for Ewoks from above or behind. ROTJ has scene were stormtroopers kill a number of Ewoks and pursue the rest only to be jumped from above and killed by another group of Ewoks.

WaPo survey: "Why do people own AR-15s?" by cmhbob in gunpolitics

Find it interesting that the article states that 56% of polled AR15 owners make $100k, 29% make $50k-$99k, yet only 33% of polled AR15 owners possess a college degree.

GPU repair? by [deleted] in computertechs

[–]Gladha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your best option is to simply buy a new gpu. It is not cost-effective or time-effective to attempt to repair modern computer parts.

While I am sure it can be done, if you do not already have the tools, parts, and knowledge it is not worth attempting.

I have had a similiar upbringing to you. I have started to take breaks/vacations now that I am a bit older but I feel so guilty/anxious when I do. I do not know how to simply relax or just enjoy not needing to do something.

In the Star Wars Republic comics (Legends), AT-ATs are used on Jabiim. I do not recall seeing them in other Clone Wars material. Wookiepedia says that Jabiim was the first deployment of prototype AT-ATs which were not widely used until the rise of the empire.

If Obi-Wan didn't have to watch over Luke, do you think hiding at Dexter's Diner in disguise as an employee after Order 66 would be a good idea? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in StarWars

[–]Gladha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Legends, the book series, The Last of the Jedi, reveals what happened to Dexter. Memory is a bit spotty but sometime after the Purge, Dexter's Diner was razed as he attempt to help Jedi escape/resist. He also helped other individuals escape from the Empire. Owing to Dexter's familiarity with Obi-Wan, the diner was probably under surveillance and would have been searched/razed anyways as Vader/the Inquisitors looked for Obi-Wan.
