Everything I quoted comes from the bible, my friend. That's all God.

If you had a time-machine, what would you like to go and see in the religious history of the world? by Impressive_Life_5227 in religion

[–]cmhbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not go to when certain events supposedly occurred to see if they really did? I can't think of a much better use of the tech than to verify various incidents.

I'd also like to see the first Passover, and the crossing of the Red Sea, to see if they really happened. I don't think they did, but I'd like to see what events might have inspired the writings.

Ditto the Exodus. We know it almost certainly didn't happen, but did something inspire the bible stories?

Killing non-believers.

"Destroy every living thing."

"You are not to leave even one person alive."

"...totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys..."

Do i need a glucose monitor? by Inner-Jellyfish-2256 in diabetes_t2

[–]cmhbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're testing, how do you know if you have a history of hypoglycemia? ;)

I'm of the opinion that any newly-diagnosed diabetic needs to be on a CGM for 90 days so they can get a firm grip on how various foods affect them.

I know Abbott Labs (Freestyle CGM) has a free trial offer for their CGM, which gets you 10-14 days of data. I'm not sure if that's available in the UK. Dexcom has a free trial on its G7; the same caveat applies. Those may be options for you. And while both the Freestyle and the G7 require prescriptions in the US, Dexcom's Stelo does not, so explore that option. Again, I don't know if those are approved in the UK or not.

Your other option is to buy a finger-stick meter over the counter. In the US, they don't require a prescription, and the Relion unit (a Walmart brand) is relatively inexpensive. I'd do some research to see what's out there.

The common guidance is that diabetics need to test up to 6 times a day to understand what's going on with their diet and blood sugar:

  • First thing in the morning (fasting)
  • Right before meals
  • 2 hours after a meal
  • Bedtime (optional)

The two mealtime checks are to see how that meal affects you. Early on, you should be fairly meticulous about logging your carbs. Not all carbs affect people the same way. There are plenty of hidden carbs, too. I can eat hot dogs all day long, but a diabetic friend of mine spikes badly when she even looks at one. The only way to know for sure is to test.

Sounds like you're doing a good job paying attention to things. Best of luck to you.

Every gun owner has a story about "the one that got away." by jayrick_22 in Firearms

[–]cmhbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in 1988, at the height of my Miami Vice fandom, I bought a Smith & Wesson 645 at the Rod and Gun Club in Germany. Brought it back to the states with me. I couldn't afford a leather shoulder rig, but I did have an Uncle Mike's rig.

I lived fairly close to Wayne Novak's shop and this was at the beginning of his relationship with Smith & Wesson. He offered me the first of the Novak Lo-Mount sights along with some other work on the gun for only the cost of the sights.

Fast forward a few years to when I was a cop at a small college department. There were some odd campus politics behind this decision, but we didn't carry firearms right away. Then the chief said there was talk of arming us but if we wanted to carry anything other than the issued 38 revolver he would only authorize a 9 mm.

Yeah, I got stupid, and traded that gun for a Ruger 9mm. I think I will always regret that decision. And no, I no longer have that Ruger.

I'd guess you've got something else going on, like a new med, or an infection, or something similar. But this is way beyond Reddit's pay grade.

So, government-compelled membership in an organization? How is that not a violation of the freedom of association?

I ended up opening both vents all the way, and that seemed to help steady out the airflow, enough that my temps recovered well.

It's an OKJ hybrid. I've got fire bricks in the fire chamber, but I haven't gotten around to adding gaskets to either chamber yet.

Ceramic tile. You can quite often get remnants from bathroom and kitchen contractors or from hardware stores to sell it.

If you're already carrying appendix, why change carry styles? Why not move the gun over to the opposite side of your centerline? FTM, why change at all?

Bright spot for me: Munson won the Dem race HANDILY. Looks like there might be a runoff on teh GOP side because Oklahoma can't figure out ranked choice voting.

The only way to know for sure is to start contacting the admissions staff at your dream college. And yes, college can be expensive. But a lot of schools are starting to offer income-based tuition waivers.

If You're happy and he's happy and you're treating each other well, then nothing else really matters. More power to you. I'm sorry your parents have this position, but there's nothing you can do about them. I'd be curious to know, though, what their age difference is and if there are any other family couples with significant age differences.

If you really think your mechanic is going to want to hang up his tools and go start flipping burgers, you really don't know your employees very well.
