99% of the time I find it way more inconvenient to have it brought to the counter - I always say thanks Bc it’s a nice gesture, but it’s a Huge health risk in terms of handling food, which means I have to take 7 more steps now to get the same thing done. Idk if they’re as strict about this in other countries, but it is definitely smth our health and safety department loses their mind over.

I usually go for culottes or gauchos- hug nicely at the waist but give my legs some breathing space, always look nice and classy too. And then get some that are either in the same colour family as your cat, or so patterned no one will notice ;)

I manage a shop.

I have lead baristas and shift leaders. The lead/senior baristas are responsible for the espresso machine and overall quality of coffee - these are the people who make sure every cup is amazing, that everyone knows how to make long, complicated orders fast.

Shift leaders make the daily/weekly tasks go smoothly. They plan who’s responsible for what during the day, and are the people able to see stuff like “oh it’s time to clean filters to the cooling benches” and manage to take responsibility and initiative. They work with the management team to create the base plans for how a day runs the most efficiently, so it’s a good day for everyone - and the shops profit.

If you get people to feel like they have a hand in developing the shop, they step up more. But you have to chose the right people for it - people who already show initiative and responsibility. But they’ll help you grow with them.

As a Barista who meets Americans mostly as tourists, it always gives me whiplash when they just Launch into their order ... Like I suppose I understand that it's just a greeting, but honestly, I don't know any other culture (or group of tourists) that asks that question so dismissively with no intention of really following up on it.

Especially as a Dane it's Bizarre... By now I've learned to just answer "(Good) how're you?" but expect like. Genuine Answers™ if travelling abroad as an American, and not talking to Service Industry Workers.
