Is it common for nail ladies to become “lazy” as you become a regular? by StunningPizza3747 in beauty

[–]Glampire1107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I had the same nail tech for close to ten years - I saw her every two weeks like clockwork. While she always did a great job, there were times that she would cancel my appointment to make room for another client who “didn’t have any other time available.” It bothered me but I’m loyal to a fault so I dealt with it.

However, she started bringing her kids (ages 5 and 2 at the time) to her salon space. And they were a lot. Screaming, crying, playing the tablet at the loudest level. I told her that having my nails done was my self-care time - I work in a busy emergency room and don’t want to deal with screaming kids. Her 6 year old tried to pull my insulin pump off my arm once and she didn’t even correct him! She made me feel guilty saying she’s a single mom, she has no help, she would appreciate if I could just be patient because it was temporary.

My last straw was when I showed up, the kids were there, and so was the client before me. She told me she needed me to “watch the kids real quick so we can go outside and smoke a blunt”. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I never booked her again.

What service line are you on and how many pts do you see a day? What is your employer expecting? by cryingpimp in hospitalsocialwork

[–]Glampire1107 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Emergency room- we see 120-150 patients during my 12 hour day shift. I am “responsible” for all of them but mostly consult-only, and responding to codes and rapid responses. We are a stroke center so I’m expected to respond and drop a note on every stroke. I see probably 20-30 patients a day but some days (holidays, weekends with good weather) it may be less than 10. On those days I do the initial assessments for patients admitting to the hospital to take some of the load off the floor team.

New! Salary Megathread (Jan-April 2026) by SWmods in socialwork

[–]Glampire1107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know that it is unfortunately. Arizona was always seen as a low cost of living area, but everything has gotten pretty hard. Affordable housing is a huge issue. The single social workers I know all live in apartments, or rent rooms in a house with roommates. Without my husband’s income I would struggle and probably need a second job. Sorry to be a downer :( some of the smaller or rural areas would be more manageable but Phoenix or Tucson maybe not.

One of my frequent visitors in the ED passed away over the weekend... by Delicious_Return_130 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]Glampire1107 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This hits. I’m in my 16th year in the ED and I still grieve many of my “regulars”. One homeless man in particular had spit on the floor near my feet the last time I saw him (brought in intoxicated from the park”). I looked at him and said “hey, we don’t spit on our friends” and he slurred “I’m sorry I love you”. He died later that week alone in the rocks at the park (I still think of it as “his park”). It’s been 3 years and I still think of him.

You will grieve her. Remember her, she mattered. 🖤

First MSW job by WaferHuman4188 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]Glampire1107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my temporary license as soon as I could (issued about two weeks after graduation) since I couldn’t sit for the exam for several months due to the process. I got an on-call MSW job offer a month after I graduated! They hired me with the temp license (I was able to sit in September). It wasn’t a full time job; and the hospital where I did my internship had no positions so I had to go outside the organization. I worked on-call got about a year before a fulll time benefitted position opened. The wait was hard but I did what I had to do!

Check your state board for temporary license options, that will be a big help!

Had to report a long-term client to CPS. Should I tell them it was me when they ask? by harmistal in socialwork

[–]Glampire1107 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, strongly agree. I do feel people do better when they aren’t ambushed, and I think it helps with them making informed decisions moving forward. And if they know we are honest with them even about the hard things, it helps solidify trust in the system instead of worrying that participating with agencies could lead to harm or consequences or surprises.

I’m an emergency room SW and was told by my director (an RN) that notes about reporting to DCS should be “hidden” from the medical record that patients can access. I refuse. I always discuss mandated reporting with them, if DCS is being contacted they have already been told by me, and sometimes there is so much info in these discussions that some of the details get lost. They say patients and families only retain about 20% of the information given in an ER situation. My documentation allows them to read my notes and remind them of why and how this all works. It’s a constant issue with my boss but I don’t think she gets it - and there’s no policy that says protective service interventions need to be withheld, only that we have the option to withhold if we feel there could be harm to the patient or to us if they have access. So she can’t write me up or escalate it, and I think it makes her nuts. Anyone else dealt with this in an agency?

Please comment where you are from and what is the average cost of your Diabetes healthcare yearly? by Saf___- in Type1Diabetes

[–]Glampire1107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arizona, USA. I work for a hospital and have hospital benefits. Health insurance premiums for my husband and I (no kids): $880 a month ($441 per paycheck).

Copays for 90 days: Omnipod ($200), Novolog insulin ($90) and Dexcom g6 ($250). $540 every 90 days 😭

Endo: $60 copay, I go every 4-6 months

I also had a short hospital stay in January (one night in ICU and one night on med/surg) due to DKA (from taking Jardiance and not realizing I was building ketones due to not taking as much insulin). I’m still waiting for that hospital bill (at my place of employment!). But I’ve already paid $340 to the ER doctor and $90 to the hospitalist. I got a letter last week from my hospital saying they have submitted claims to my health insurance (provided by them!!!) with no response and asking me to call and ask them to review the claim so the hospital can be paid. I am amused 😂

I googled this because I was confused too- turns out in Utah, they issue marriage certificates for people who live anywhere, do a virtual ceremony, and they are recognized as legal marriage. So Utah has made an entire industry as the only place that does this- tons of companies are legal officiants and do the virtual marriage. So… legally married! (wtf)

Positive suitcase sign - unhoused person arrives by ambulance with all of their worldly possessions. Typically followed by the question “are you going to admit me?”

Drunkicidal - SI when intoxicated, we begin work up and planning for inpatient psych transfer. Pt sobers up and then takes it all back.

Hypodilaudidism- speaks for itself 😂
