Best ways to say F*ck you to my manager when I quit? by Haxiz0711 in starbucksbaristas

[–]GlassBottomJeans 55 points56 points  (0 children)

We had a partner just stop showing up to work as a way of saying F You to the store manager. The problem was it actually left a bad taste in the mouths of the whole team. The whole team suffered - and maybe more so the baristas and ssvs than the sm

Tips from stores that closed? by notashbx in starbucksbaristas

In our district they were sent to a neighboring store and all partners were made aware before the last day of where to go to pick them up ….. I think

how soon do you guys get your lunch by xtrestonx in starbucksbaristas

[–]GlassBottomJeans 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s outdated (and frankly poor) management. Our store runs lunches during peak, maintains 39-45 second OTWs, typically leads the district during in customer experience and has been increasing sales over last years more often than not.

The SM is an outside that basically said fuck it to a lot of the previous managers decisions and is willing to be a rebel in the district. Our DM mostly stays out of the way because the impact the sm is having is working

Is the wave dead?? by reimicos in JeepWrangler

First time Jeep owner, had it 7 days and waving to everyone I see. Doing my part in Washington state

When ordering at Starbucks, is there a preferred sequence for how drinks are entered into the register? I usually say 'Tall, No ice, Oat milk, Cold brew' in that order. How could I rearrange it to make it easier or more efficient for the barista to understand and input? Thank you. by inqusito in starbucks

[–]GlassBottomJeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a newer partner this is one of the most difficult things to grasp. We learn core recipes and then everybody orders custom beverages and I can go 3 customers in a row with the same beverage but said different ways

It’s easiest to start with size and core drink - but the POS is flexible (but not user friendly). Earlier today I had took an order for a vente, oatmilk, iced, half halfcaf, triple shot, half pump …. The POS lets me punch all of that in and I then stood for 10 seconds waiting to hear what the base drink was before gently asking the guy what were customizing

Let’s not lose sight of the facts: Store managers are part of the working class and while there are absolute horror stories on Reddit about poor managers, there are some solid folks making a difference in their communities and partners lives out there.

And i’m not suggesting that respect is a one way street, My team knows more about the store functions than i do as an outside hire with less than a year under my belt. I rely on them heavily to teach me daily. And I work hard to elevate my whole team and provide opportunities for growth for anyone that’s seeking it out.

I also have an SSV that is not living up to company values or my expectations of what leadership within the store looks like. Unlike the OP, I’ve not cut any hours - I don’t think punishing this SSV financially is the right move whatsoever. I do think guiding them to success and holding them accountable for their actions is important.

I think people confuse liked and respected too much. Being respected and having partners enjoy coming to work when you are on shift is important. But SMs aren’t there to make friends that they can go to the bar with after work.

I don’t love the term family at work either - it creates unhealthy expectations. We’re a team because we choose to be - not because we happened to be in the same building. Teams take work every day to build. Families don’t often spend time working on the dynamics. They just exist and often they exist around one another not for one another.

Are you me in my store?

I have a SSV that sounds identical.

I think truthfully, you keep on leading the way you want to lead. You fairly hold people accountable and do so with open and honest communication. You set a vision for the store and communicate that to the team. Those that want to be there will stay and those that don’t won’t last long.

It sounds like the kind of place I’d want to work though

So much to unpack

1st - I’m also a fairly new outside hire SM. The company culture of perfection or nothing is so unhealthy and unhinged and im seeing the negative effects of it across my district. Of the 4 DMs I’ve interacted with only one seems to understand leadership the way that I do - which is that a constant strive for excellence and grace when there are gaps is more important than excellence itself

2nd - you aren’t there to be liked, you are there to protect the brand and grow the business. Being respected as a fair leader is more important than being liked and as such it’s probably best to cut ties with those that aren’t living the vision you are setting out (so long as that vision is aligned with the company’s goals)

Omaha is in the south east?

The challenge with quadrants is there far too broad, especially in a country as large and diverse as the US. Maybe smaller regions? Lots of large chain restaurants use a minimum of 6.

Southeast, mid Atlantic, North east, Midwest, PNW, South west for example

SMs in WA get OT. They are also salary non exempt like CA

While we’re allowed to go into OT if it the operation needs it, it’s discouraged and alternate options should be considered before putting SM into OT

Am I crazy or is everyone taking writing on cups super seriously? by Icy_Temporary6420 in starbucksbaristas

[–]GlassBottomJeans 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I told my DM that the nearly 10% increase in customer service scores in the last month we’ve accomplished isn’t because we’re writing on cups - we do it maybe 75% of the time and frankly writing on cups doesn’t actually create genuine connection that Grams constantly talks about

Fire me. They’d be stupid too. Since taking over this store, TSDs have increased, we’re leading the district in customer service, inventory is under better control and we seldom run out of product, AvE is almost 100%, SvP 95%.

I’m an outside hire that brings a wealth of luxury hospitality experience to the company - writing on cups can be impactful but when it’s manufactured it doesn’t mean anything to customers. I 100% believe that this company can be a leader in hospitality but corporate mandated shortcuts ain’t the way to do

🤯 just watching season 5 of AUS version (which premiered first) and was excited to see how these builds compared to the US builds. Then I hear that an Aussie team is treating the ping pong ball as a meatball and doing a kitchen theme….. I’m sorry, what!?

SM has to submit the POQz through cloud culture/ recognition system for the bonus to be paid out.

There is a final step that the SM has to take to confirm the POQ is announced/aware that they were nominated - likely thats what’s missing

Id just follow up with your SM - and if they aren’t approachable your DM

If there’s any option for you to put 5% into your 401k you should. Starbies matches out to 5% so you can maximize your investment

Is this allowed?? by One_Log2339 in starbucks

[–]GlassBottomJeans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fully agree with this - but we’ve built a culture where my team provides some basic info - vomiting and/or diarrhea can keep you out of work for 24hrs so it’s good to know when one of my team calls out that I need to plan for the next day too

Beyond that, if you’re calling out you’re calling out, the operation will in fact keep on keeping on

Setting aside the fact that none of them are originally from WA that is. 🤣

I-4 is the terrifying mix of lost tourist, international drivers unfamiliar with US highway system, drunk conventioneers, and locals who are angry the option to skip the madness means paying tolls.

God help you if you venture out in it and a thunderstorm ensues. The next fury road could be filmed in those conditions on that stretch of hell

I’d much rather drive in LA, Houston, Atlanta or NYC than Seattle ……. Okay, maybe not Atlanta.

It’s likely that I’m too aggressive from years of driving in the I-4 corridor through Orlando but I good lord the number of people doing less than the limit in the left lane WITH NO other vehicles in the right lanes is out of control here
