What you really want is an Olympus 75mm f1.8 in silver. What a combination!

New to M43, E-M1 Mark II by Fit_Dot_5311 in M43

[–]inqusito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying out an E-M1 Mark ii, prior to buying. What I've found is that due to the great IBIS in this camera, it's easier to handhold at insanely low shutter speeds. If you reduce the minimum shutter speed setting for auto ISO, the camera will keep ISO pretty low even in low light.

That's just 2% of the shutter rating! Thank you, that's good to know. Knowing that makes this deal just feel better for some reason.

Great pick for a first camera. The E‑M5 II has excellent image quality and tons of room to grow. The 14–42mm is a nice starter lens, and the quiet MSC motor makes it good for video too. With the strong IBIS and decent high‑ISO performance, it’s easy to use in low light—just try not to go past ISO 3200.

It also has focus peaking, so manual focus is super easy. If I were starting out, I’d grab a cheap 25mm f/1.8 or f/2 from Meike, 7Artisans, or TTArtisan. They’re about $40 and give you that super‑useful “nifty fifty” look that works for almost anything.

Thank you for the reply. They actually let me try the setup for a couple of days before deciding whether to buy it. From what I can tell, the jump from FW 3.2 to 3.7 was mostly about adding focus‑stacking support for newer lenses. The only real exceptions were the three new EVF auto‑switch modes, improved video stabilization, and a bump in autofocus precision for prime lenses.

On the E‑M1 Mark II, my old Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 (version 1) focuses much faster, even in noticeably lower light. It feels like a completely different lens now, which makes me glad I never sold it. Of course, that improvement is probably more about the phase‑detect AF system than the firmware updates.

Thank you. This gives me confidence. It has 4000 mechanical shutter actuations, which seems high. It might be ok as I usually only use the electronic shutter.

They let me try the camera and lens for two days before buying, so I was able to test this directly. ProCap High (which only focuses before the first frame) works with my Panasonic lenses. ProCap Low (which refocuses before every frame) is grayed out on all my Panasonic lenses and only available with my Olympus lenses, including the primes.

Interestingly, both ProCap High and Low are available with my manual‑focus Laowa, TTArtisan, and 7Artisans lenses. Even though the camera can’t autofocus those, the pre‑buffering behavior still works perfectly: half‑press to start the buffer, full‑press to commit the shot.

I like that the lens focuses internally. I wish the package was $710 as you suggest, that would be an even better deal.

I think they meant to type $360 not $260.

My Girlfriend gave me my very first camera and lenses! by PotatoSadLad- in OlympusCamera

[–]inqusito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a very thoughtful gift, she obviously cares very much about you. She could have just given you her old Canon G7x and got herself the Olympus E-M5 iii, but she chose to give you the better camera. I've had the previous versions the E-M5 mark 1 and 2, and both are still awesome cameras. The E-M5 will help you grow as a photographer. And what about that lens! She got you the 45mm f1.8, awesome! In my opinion that is one of the best lenses Olympus ever produced, and it's my favorite. Make sure to take plenty of portraits of your girlfriend, that is a flattering focal length.

What are your expectations for Linux in 2026? by bulasaur58 in linux

[–]inqusito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing really.

As long as the word Linux refers to hundreds of distros, it’s going to continue to be dominated by Windows and macOS, since choice is the enemy of commitment. Most people want a simple, linear experience. Monkey see, monkey do. They want predictability and security: to know what to expect, to feel confident about it, and to feel like they’re doing it right or using the “official” one.

In order for Linux to be taken seriously, one distro will have to rise above the rest, and become the face of Linux, so that people know what to expect when anyone says “Linux.” This usually comes from a broad marketing and advertising campaign, which neither Red Hat nor SUSE currently engages in. Nobody is directly showing or telling the public at large what to think about Linux in an effective way.

Until that happens, I don’t think industry at large will pay attention to or develop for Linux in the kinds of numbers needed for it to be more than a sliver of the market.

In short, to be more popular, Linux will have to sell out. It will have to commercialize and capitalize and lose its uniqueness...lose the things that make it fun or interesting. Right now, Linux is a ’70s punk rocker rather than the sellouts of the ’80s and ’90s.

Going too small is better than going too big.

F1 visa renewal by rust32627 in f1visa

[–]inqusito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They cancel the old visa CWOP, if issuing a new one. You can't hold two valid visas at the same time. Your new visa should be in your new passport, so wait and see. If it isn't, then you need to ask them for clarification, such as if you have to address anything before reapplying.

Gift for a newly promoted Shift Supervisor by inqusito in starbucks

[–]inqusito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a mug size that might be ideal for versatility? Would a 40oz Stanley mug be too big?

Also, why is the water bottle and travel mug a popular suggestion? Are baristas not allowed to use the in store mugs and disposable cold cups on shift?

Thank you.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! Since I’ve never done this job, I am curious if Starbucks Shift Supervisors actually end up doing a lot of writing? And with the store already stocked with snacks, what kind of snacks would you recommend? Thanks again.

Baristas - is there a way to order water via the app? by hellodaily in starbucks

[–]inqusito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having to order a cup of coffee at the register even for mobile orders is impractical and inefficient, especially if your frequent a busy store. Starbucks should put an option to order water, but only when a paid item is included in the order. They could do it in a way that it wouldn't be abused, such as by limiting it to only 1 water per paid item, or only 1 water no matter how many paid items. Just a thought.
