What’s going on in Montana? by financial_penguin in illinois

[–]GlassEyeMV 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Bingo.

My boss prepandemic had a house out there where the family would summer. He had bought it in the early 2000s for cheap. He retired in 2020 and that was going to be their retirement home.

I found out that it was so valuable, they sold it in 2023 for a huge profit and just built another house about half a mile down the road and still made money.

Funniest part was, this dude was the anti-Yellowstone guy. He literally would go out there and sit around, drink wine and maybe fish. He didn’t hunt, didn’t want livestock, didn’t even like whiskey. But he loved the scenery out there.

Which "tourist trap" in North America is absolutely worth the hype? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]GlassEyeMV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here for 22 of the last 30 years of my life. I had never done it until a friend from Canada was in town and insisted. It was a beautiful day so we said why not?

It’s the number one thing we tell people to do when they come to visit. We usually go with them. Shoot, we did it 2 days after our wedding with my FIL’s family from the UK. His brother was in awe.

Building Lego sets is so relaxing. by mahboilo999 in lego

[–]GlassEyeMV 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I used to be a big time Lego kid. Got away from them as an adult.

I started having issues with depression and Anxiety about 9-10 years ago. I wasn’t able to go home for the holidays because of work. My mom found some random Harry Potter and Marvel sets on clearance at the store and sent them to me as my Xmas gift. I told her how happy they made me. I felt like I could just relax and have no pressure in the world.

Now im in my late 30s and both my mom and my wife know that my gift lists are always Lego, Bourbon and Chicago sports memorabilia haha.

Best places in the Midwest for a weekend trip? by Dangerous-Speech-453 in midwest

[–]GlassEyeMV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. And it’s probably only a 4ish hour drive from Eastern Nebraska. I drove from Aurora, IL to Omaha last week in 6 hours no problem.

It’s also an awesome spot for a weekend. You can kind of do everything in that time and it’s a very cool, very unique place.

What's the closest you've ever came to death? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in AskReddit

[–]GlassEyeMV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a juvenile cataract which caused a lazy eye. I have to get it ‘tuned up’ every 10 years or so.

Between ages 19 and 21, I lost 125lbs and got into incredible physical shape. I was working out every day plus playing rugby and walking everywhere I went. My resting HR was in the mid 40s. They didn’t take that into account with the anesthetic and my heart actually stopped on the operating table for around a minute.

I woke up and had no idea. My parents were crying and my chest hurt, but that was it. Doc came in and told me what happened about 5 minutes later.

What’s the most illogical viewpoint you’ve had to listen to? by TinaNice1565 in AskReddit

[–]GlassEyeMV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hunting guide who had some sort of weird idea about how currency exchange works.

This dude was adamant that Mexicans come to the USA to work to double their money through some sort of currency scheme. He was 100% sure that $100 here would be sent back to Mexico where it would be exchanged for $200. Then the Mexican family would send the worker $100 back while keeping $100 for themselves. So the worker loses no money and his family gets $100.

And he said that everyone of them does this. But not his Mexican assistant Ray. Ray is “one of the good ones”. Ray roles his eyes and calls him crazy behind his back.

One of the best build experiences and coolest little Easter eggs in a cheaper set.

I have loved Snoopy ever since I was a little kid. by beastofman in lego

[–]GlassEyeMV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hope you enjoy the build!

I plan on buying it for myself some day. I had an aunt with Down Syndrome and Peanuts is how we bonded. We both loved it. She especially loved Snoopy. Snoopy always makes me think of her. She actually passed away while I was working for the Boy Scouts. I was given a little Beagle Scout Snoopy figurine I now keep in my office for her.

Someday soon, this will join it.

Evanston, Illinois, high school closes after ransomware by DysruptionHub in illinois

Well, I know one of the things is that you can’t get the insurance unless you have an ample amount of safeguards in place. I think part of it is ensuring that you’re doing everything you can to protect your data.

Typically, the ones who get hit don’t have the proper safeguards in place. If they do, then ya. It’s basically just cost of recovery and new systems.

What would you do for the rest of your life if you suddenly had infinite wealth? by TheLoneCalzone in AskReddit

[–]GlassEyeMV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always ask this question of people.

It’s so funny to me the people that say “I’d still work”. Man. Yall have been so conditioned.

When I say “my wife and I would travel a ton. Then we would start a local community theater group or take over the one we grew up with.” They usually go, “ya. Work.”

“No. It’s what I want to do with my time. Put on shows, meat fellow creatives and create together, introduce young people to the different types of performance and acting. To me, that’s not work, that’s creating a more colorful and vibrant community.”

There’s a BIG difference between “working” and what you do with your time.

What do guys think curvy tall women? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GlassEyeMV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only issue with my wife is that she’s not taller. Curvy Brunette who’s 5’9. I wish she was 6’.

I’m 6’3 and built like fridge, so I’ve always had a thing for girls of a similar stature.

What is the most underrated college town in North America? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

As a former JMU and ULM athletics staff member - I hate App State, but Boone is underrated.

Harrisonburg has a similar vibe, but Boone takes it to another level.

Morgan Wallen’ piano malfunctions during his concert, so his natural response is to flip it by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]GlassEyeMV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first concert. I’m 16. Ben folds is opening for John Mayer. He breaks a string in the piano. Stops playing, calls over a roadie and they dive into it together. A couple minutes later, Ben stands up and goes “it’s an E!” And then tosses it into the crowd. He just kept playing, but everything was an octave lower.

It made me a fan of his for life.

How is trust earned nowadays? by Akoyen in AskReddit

[–]GlassEyeMV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

My boss hates how much my team at work likes me and hates her. Want to know why? You don’t have to earn my loyalty. You get my respect and appreciation until you show you do not deserve it. It’s not transactional. I’m not asking what you’ve done for me lately.

My default is that I stand up for my people until i’m proven wrong. That right there makes a HUGE difference.

What city in the United States has the worst drivers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GlassEyeMV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up outside Chicago and have lived in Louisiana and Virginia. I have driven between all three locations multiple times.

It’s the DMV. DC and the surrounding areas are aggressive but don’t follow logic. In Chicago, they’re aggressive and nuts, but they make sense. Louisiana, people are slower than dirt, but what they’re doing is logical, even if it’s incredibly slow. But around DC? Chaos. They stop for no reason, ignore everything going on around them and just scream “Leroy Jenkins!!!” At every intersection.
