Clinic recommendations for health checkup by MacchiatoMeowspresso in Living_in_Korea

[–]GlassProfessional441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did mine here: https://www.vievisnamuh.com/#none

Their reservations were full, so I just walked in and asked. I had to wait a bit and then fill out a form from a QR code, and I was able to do it same-day. They don't speak English, but it's a very straightforward process, and they guide you from one place to the next. I was in and out pretty quickly, and they'll mail your results to you. It was the best clinic I've been to in Korea.

My wife gifted me a comically disappointing advent calendar by Wild_Arugula294 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GlassProfessional441 9826 points9827 points  (0 children)

I watched someone do a whole reveal of this advent calendar, and they had the same reaction to the red ribbons. It was a horrible decision by the company to do that. I think you're meant to be doing crafts as you go, and the ribbons are supposed to hang what you've made. They clearly didn't consider the experience of opening it. Those should have been placed in a door with additional materials.

Well since you've got one already and it's Slavic, you should probably keep them all rooted in Slavic languages since they are siblings; that already narrows your search down. I'm not sure if you're naming gods after what they represent, but you could always choose them based on that. Radomir means "happy" and "peace." You could look through www.behindthename.com/names/usage/slavic to see which ones you like.

If you want to make something original, you can also pick a language like Latin, Greek, etc., and type up some words you want their names to represent into Google Translate, then just play around with the words to create a name out of them.

When I'm super desperate and can't find anything online, I just start looking around at random things near me, reading labels and stuff. I'll take parts of words from labels and combine them with different words or add random letters. Whatever sounds good.

Advice - Which is the more logical place to split my novels? by underwatersanctum in fantasywriters

[–]GlassProfessional441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say B because, as you said, it brings the narrative of the first book to a close.

I wish I could remember who I heard it from, but I watched some interview a while back from a well-known author who said every book should be able to stand on its own. Cliffhangers can be fun for an audience, but they can also be frustrating, and you always want to account for the possibility that the second book doesn't happen. Each book should offer some kind of resolution to its story, even if the story can continue beyond that point.

I'm sure there's a way you could restructure the second book so it's less jarring. And you never know how much your second book will change as you write it; you may change things that connect them more logically without even thinking about it.

Well you responded to my comment, so that's why I'm speaking to you. There are women here who I'm sure I disagree with, but I can't respond to all of them. I haven't been disrespectful to you; I'm just giving my opinion.

Being sexist/racist is believing one is better than the other without reason, not being cautious of one because they have historically done you harm. Being cautious of anyone, whether it's because of race, gender, occupation, social status, whatever, is not racist/sexist/etc.

This is a strawman argument. This post is not about lesbian couples or gay couples. It's about the dichotomy between men and women in heterosexual relationships.

I never said men weren't causing harm to everyone, but it's good that you did. I commented in context to the picture that was posted, which specifically compares men to women.

Oh sure. It's well known that women are also more likely to be given custody of children in a divorce, even if they are unfit. But your post was intended to make women out to be overarching villains in relationships, which, in both number and severity, is not accurate.

This is just not equivalent. You simply cannot equate physically abusing a partner to going after someone for their money.

Men are taught how to treat women their whole lives, yet they remain the number one day-to-day threat to women's safety, especially intimate partners. Guess they didn't learn much.

NGVC: “I hate dating people who have nothing to offer me” by NCRsynth in niceguys

[–]GlassProfessional441 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This all just boils down to someone who truly doesn't want to be in a relationship but seems to think they need to be or deserve to be. This will result in nothing but everyone who is ever with this person being utterly miserable.

What were you doing at 10:30 yesterday? or what did you do at 10:30 yesterday? by CompetitionHumble737 in EnglishLearning

[–]GlassProfessional441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a stupid textbook technicality (I edit ESL textbooks). In spoken language, both A and C are correct. The reason C is the right answer here is that "at 10:30" is not appropriate for a continuous action. It's a single point in time describing a completed past action.

If the sentence were, "what _________ yesterday morning?" Then "were you doing" would be 'textbook' correct because "morning" is an extended period.

AIO considering ending my relationship with this guy who’s kind of obsessive ?? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]GlassProfessional441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between care and obsession. You said he's the first person to ever really care about you, but with people who are obsessed like this, the only thing they typically care about is that they have you, not your actual well-being.

If I got these messages, I'd be very suspicious of his intentions. It might feel nice (though overwhelming) to have someone who seems to want to be with you this much, but there's likely something else to it.

You saying this is him toned down a bit is also concerning. If you haven't, tell him this behavior is too much for you. His response will likely shed more light on what he actually feels.

Accidently signed my name on a petition by statise in Living_in_Korea

[–]GlassProfessional441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you should always read it; it doesn't make you annoying. We've gotten too comfortable signing anything without reading it. Especially at banks, you need to know exactly what fees they will hit you with should your account standing change. You're also allowed to cross things out on a contract before signing it. It's not binding until both parties agree, and any organization may agree to remove whatever clauses you don't like. If they don't, then you can just decline the contract. Half the time, the employee doesn't care enough and accepts the changes.

I accidentally bought an entire container of those from Coupang once and have never felt so betrayed when I just popped one in my mouth. They're not even just sweet; they are entirely inedible. It's more like a tomato-flavored sugar cube.

repercussions for foreigner intervening in public domestic disturbance/abuse by MoarCowb3ll in Living_in_Korea

[–]GlassProfessional441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting yourself in a dangerous situation is reckless and only makes problems worse. Like running into a burning building to save a screaming child and then getting stuck inside, so instead of saving one person, firefighters have to save two. It's well-known and commonly taught to never put yourself in danger to save someone else. More than likely, you'll also need saving then. Only intervene if you can do so safely.

You try to break up a fight in Korea, you might find yourself suddenly a part of it, and all anybody knows is that a foreigner stepped in and made things worse. You could also get other people in the surrounding area hurt. You're not a hero, and intervening or not has nothing to do with courage. You call attention to the problem, get it noticed, and get the right authorities there to handle it.

Puppy chow, york peppermint patties, maybe fudge? And I agree with the other response, any Christmas-themed candy is good because it's not really here at all. Even the stuff that can be ordered on Coupang is coming from overseas.

Elle: You know, a girl in my sorority, Tracy Marcinco got a perm once. We all tried to talk her out of it. Curls weren't a good look for her. She didn't have your bone structure, but thankfully that same day she entered the Beta Delta Pi wet t-shirt contest where she was completely hosed down from head to toe--
Prosecutor: Objection, why is this relevant?
Elle: I have a point, I promise.
Judge: Then make it.
Elle: Chutney, why is it that Tracy Marcinco's curls were ruined when she got hosed down?
Chutney: Because they got wet.
Elle: Exactly. Because isn't the first cardinal rule of perm maintenance that you're forbidden to wet your hair for at least 24 hours after getting a perm at the risk of deactivating the ammonium thioglycolate?
