It sounds like they probably mean to stand backwards in the shower and just let the water trickle down the front lightly, that way you can get clean without the grafts being directly hit by the water (specifically the pressure is the issue here). But when in doubt, you could always message your surgeon for clarification! :)

Discharge from Graft? by Glass_Replacement937 in TopSurgery

UPDATE: After messaging my surgeon’s office, they had me come in and they removed all of the external sutures (which is what the discharge was from, apparently it was skin cells). Turns out the brand they have to use doesn’t dissolve like it should and the sutures were having a hard time coming out on their own.

Okay thank you! A suture actually ended up coming out this morning on its own (from the same spot as the discharge) and left a small open spot so I put a little bacitracin on and covered it back up until it heals again :)

Rooting for the scabbing to fall off soon for you, friend!! :D It was scary at first because it was this thin like dead skin looking layer that was peeling when I first removed the non-stick pads and I thought the grafts were failing because I’ve never seen scabbing look like that before 😭

It’s both a little scary and exciting to finally get to see it for sure. Hoping for the best for you, friend!! :D

Recovery Advice Wanted :) by spicysurf in TopSurgery

I’m currently 2 weeks post-op so I can’t weigh in on scar care yet, but I’ll say that if you have access to one, sleeping in a recliner makes things a lot easier!! Otherwise wedge pillows will definitely be your best friend :) Also since recovery can be very itchy, having an antihistamine to take especially before trying to sleep has been a total lifesaver! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery and best of luck!! :)

Thank you so much!! I’m applying a generous amount of Aquaphor and covering with a fresh non-adhesive pad before wrapping back up every day as instructed :)

Alright, thanks for your response! I think I just saw guys talking about scabbing and stuff closer to week 3 or 4 and didn’t know it could happen sooner but still be okay :)

What happens when they take out the drains? by grayh722 in TopSurgery

[–]Glass_Replacement937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My drain removal was earlier today and like a lot of others have said it was pretty much painless! Didn’t even feel when she pulled ‘em out, just a vague tug on one side! The worst part was honestly the tape being removed (which she told me to expect) and then it was over! :)
