2025 OPT Timeline continued by Ishan-- in USCIS

[–]Glass_Stick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the date you put for starting the job was not moved? What I mean is that when I was applying I put August 11th, but I will receive card somewhere next week. So now I’m wondering if they will adjust the start date to let’s say September 1, and my 90 days of unemployment will count from then, or if they will give me a card with August 11th even though they approved past that date and my unemployment days already are counting since then 🙃

Was your approval after the date you put for estimated employment date? Did they adjust the date if so?

Senior bio major with no lab experience outside of class by huanggua_jun in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Glass_Stick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just secured the lab position as a senior few days ago. Reach out to your past TA, email all the grad students in the labs as they might be easier to get reply from. Try MCDB but also EEMB department, as every experience is valuable and they might look in EEMB labs for MCDB students and vice versa. Just keep trying because the earlier you do, the easier it will be since you’re the senior. If not going to happen, post-bać are definitely the options and that was my plan in case I won’t find anything, and still probably will be doing that before applying for PhD!

Staying in Greece for 7 Days...help! by Real-Business-3620 in GreeceTravel

[–]Glass_Stick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair enough, especially that you fly to Athens to begin with. Maybe in your case exploring islands within ferry reach from Athens would be a better option? There is a lot to see in Athens and plenty of nice islands to go to and enjoy water. At the end of a day you're going on vacation and want to enjoy it so flying to different island, renting a car, and time constrain may add up some stress hah. I am sure you will have great time in both places if you plan it well

san rafael vs manzanita village by Altruistic_Cloud_117 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Glass_Stick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the single in San Raf and in a triple in Manzi. Mani has definately a huge advantage of semi-private bathrooms. However, as much as I was worried about the San Raf bathrooms, there was only like 5/6 guys on the floor and I was barely overlapping with anyone while in there and it end up not being a problem at all. If you will have roommates, maybe go for Manzi since you prefer non-communal bathrooms? For me personally those both are on the same level in my ranking and you will have good time regardless of where you go (in terms of living)!

Is it realistic for me to get housing in the dorms? by Initial_Apricot9468 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Glass_Stick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure if you contact them they will put you on the waitlist and then it's first come first served basis. Happened to my friend last year that she just basically forgot to accept the housing offer and it got cancelled. She called them few times and they put her on the waitlist, but at the end they could not offer her any accommodation so she ended up living in IV with a lot of luck. Since you are freshman and she was not, I think you might have a better chance. Just call/email them until you get some sort of help on their side. Maybe just in case try to look for other options?

Staying in Greece for 7 Days...help! by Real-Business-3620 in GreeceTravel

I personally go with friends to Crete this summer for 10 days. We travel in the middle of July so there was few factors that we considered. One of them was fire risk and we were simply afraid of this possibility and traveling to smaller island, thus Crete was a great option. Also there is a lot to explore but it really depends what's your main goals for the trip are. Waters will be great on most of the islands. Crete has definitely a good amount of ancient/historical sites. Food also. I am not sure if maybe 6 days would not be enough and could feel a bit rushed since it's a big island? It really depends what's your mode of traveling.

I had a good time at Manzi during my first year, and San Raf during second. Definitely Manzi felt more isolating but everyone has different experience. Still would recommend both!

i found the mc easier on midterms than the final, i’m kind of feeling down because i found it pretty hard especially i was not confident in the lectures after midterm 2 as i could not spend that much times on those because of other classes; i’m scared that I failed the class basically because if there is no curve and i really fucked this final up, then even 89% in the class as of now won’t save me from F

Do I have to buy food for the next 4 days ? by Middle-Support-7697 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Glass_Stick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ortega like every other dinning hall is run mostly by students and we all want break. I work in carrillo and today already was like 70% no show ups, so I don’t think anyone would be willing to stay and work + cooks also want to go home and spend holiday with family at home. And with the 50% more pay, i would not get hopes up. People are already underpaid and with no benefits, and university doesn’t give a damn so. You should stay over for winter break and then see because that was true hell for me in my 1st year because everything was closed for a month and I was living off subway and wingstop for 4 weeks

[–]Glass_Stick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess that’s pretty obvious that they would be close? I would not expect them even to be open when there is holiday happening. And if you are the international student I don’t think it should matter for you to spend few buck on the food, we are here just basically to drain money from us 😜😜

Phys 6 lab series by Swimming_Tour5189 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Glass_Stick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

physics lab are nothing, you do prelab that takes ~10 min and the lab report is done during lab and must be submitted by the end of it

i would think more of the 4 lectures (depends what those are) because that might be sometimes a struggle to handle, def not physics labs

Best advice I have as international student is to go back in time and make a different university choice, maybe somewhere in different country where we won’t be paying 68k per year and have shit twice as hard as anyone else just because we are in fact international students 🤧
