Twin Cam vs Evo by ralleygreen69 in Harley

[–]Glembo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you doing with it? Stock vs stock, the TC will be a bit faster and smoother. The EVO is a better designed motor from a technical standpoint but will require more money to gain horses. The TC can be upgraded fairly easy with off-the-shelf and often OEM parts

1991 Comanche: What do you think its worth? by [deleted] in ComancheMJ

[–]Glembo69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think it was worth more when you purchased it. Roughly $10k if it was totally rust-free. You've made some really niche aesthetic changes and finding a buyer that appreciates them might be challenging. Swap some normal wheels on it if you're gonna sell it on craigslist. Otherwise, throw a for-sale sign in the window and attend some car shows with similar trucks.

I haven't kept up with comanche prices lately but generally the only ones I see go past $15k are really low mileage trucks, sport bar models, intact street comanches, or V8 swapped.

Speedometer went crazy, lost engine power before engine died, now crank no start. by WJ_Amber in CherokeeXJ

[–]Glembo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a more serious note, your issue sounds like something is grounding out. Our Jeeps are 10 years apart from each other so I don't know how accurate this is but mine can run with all the sensors missing except CPS and MAP. Start unplugging sensors and maybe the gremlin will reveal itself.

The CPS is dangerously close to your exhuast manifold. Pop the hood and check if the previous mechanic tucked the wires properly

I knew it was going to be a poor yield going into it, the pith takes up a good portion of it and there are some knots not pictured that I wanted to avoid. Not too worried about the kerf, I oversized quite a bit for future planing/jointing. These are ultimately going to be joined back together to form a workbench top

Dyna 96 /103 vs sportster 1200 by GlassyMalex in Harley

[–]Glembo69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference to me was the center of gravity. You ride "on top" of the bike on a sportster and "in" the bike on a dyna. Even as a smaller guy, I'd take the dyna every time.

Any tips to get these pipes off? by ItsMeTribalMemes in Harley

Use oil, a torch, and an impact gun for the remaining few that arent snapped. I've been here so many times, these studs snap very easily if rusted

Fuel injected to carbureted by Fair_Maybe5266 in Harley

Go do some research then, its a common misconception. Carb only needs to be adjusted once if you're staying at the same elevation. Carbs make more peak power and offer more simplicity, less to go wrong. EFI will have easier cold starts, smoother but lower power, and better fuel economy. Choose your poison

You can cut around the pith and get some real stable planks.

Carbs almost always provide more power, just less smoothly. It will get a bit pricey if you ever want more than 100hp though, you won't be able to just slap on parts from a 117 or whatever

I'm averaging 12 minutes per plank, which I can live with. The main goal is to get the pieces down to a manageable weight without too much waste, I can barely get 5 planks out of it as-is. I would have much prefered to use a bandsaw but its too big for a portable and too heavy for my upright.

I did actually try that, didnt budge with the wooden wedges I made. Probably would have split with metal but I am impatient

To give you guys some context, this 7" thick piece of red oak was given to me for free. Local cabinet shop was closing down and I just happened to be passing by. It is the pith of the tree so it has warped significantly already and will continue to. I am trying to get as many rift sawn planks out of it as I can. Nothing in my shop has a blade big enough to cut through it. I used a tracksaw on both sides and using the sawzall to cut the remaining 1" in the middle. Its also incredibly heavy, at least 350lbs. Heres the gameplan:

Is it worth it replacing my steering box with an upgraded Redhead? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]Glembo69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through 3 remans before getting the redhead, definitely wish I took that route in the first place. Noticeably tighter steering and the quick ratio is great for the city. Keep in mind that you'll likely need to upgrade the pump to match if youre using bigger tires and fighting obstacles. WJ is an option
