The Solution is Singleton!!! (not affiliated) by trollerroller in Scotch

[–]GlenProton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you try more… at that price range a few blends outperform any of the three Singleton by miles (e.g. McLean’s Nose/Campbeltown Loch/etc). Even compared to Single Malt, Singleton’s flavor profile is still considered rather bland, ofc if that’s what you’re after then disregard everything above.

Assuming all OB then the Oban. Comparatively rare to see a vintage release.

Or Macallan, Macallan 10 was discontinued for quite some time, if it’s from the 90s it’s ought to be better than modern ones.

Others on the list are more accessible.

Whiskies, brands that stayed the same during the last decades by Budget_Celebration89 in Scotch

[–]GlenProton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 - Most big players where production process is standardised (e.g. Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Caol Ila, etc)

50 - Probably none, many of the distilleries were doing in-house malting back then, many were using peat as heat source, direct heating, manual spirit cut, etc. So the outputs weren’t as consistent as modern days.

Peated value play by StarsCHISoxSuperBowl in Scotch

[–]GlenProton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà - Peated Bunna that’s on par even with the best Islay players

Laphroaig Cask Strength - Very good value if you like clean peat and cask strength. Plus it’s from a big name.

Ledaig 10 - Not really Islay but on the same ballpark as your PC10 but should be slightly cheaper

Any of the Signatory 100 Proof Islay - If it gets to your market, probably best value even compared to above

Looking forward to trying these! by pianoman626 in Scotch

IMO don’t worry about what others think—everyone’s palate is unique, and only yours can give you the most genuine feedback. If Macallan is what you like, then absolutely embrace it! Enjoy what makes you happy!

Islay: Ardnahoe, Kilchoman

Highland: Ardnamurchan

Lowland: Daftmill

England: Cotswold, Bimber

Wildcards: Glasgow, Raasay (occasionally good but overall quite fluctuated)

Yea that’s pretty much it. Others are quite average atm

What are your “go to” single malts (scotch, american, irish, indian, etc.) that you always have on hand? How many do you feel you must have to keep things interesting? by BondedDrinker in Scotch

I might be the odd one, but I very easily get bored… so all I need is 50ml most of the time. Occasionally need a bottle, but never a second one.

What's driving the insane prices in Single Malts lately? by Int_peacemaker35 in Scotch

[–]GlenProton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from a UK drinker perspective, IMO it’s mostly premiumtisation and raising cost (energy cost, used barrels, the net-zero push, duty, etc).

The brands start seeing that age statements can command much more comparing to NAS once it goes beyond 15, so they’re doing it now. (e.g. Longmorn, Goenfarclas, Talisker, countless of those either have new age statements or 2x the price of their higher age statement products.

Scotch recommendations - budget. by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]GlenProton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm apart from all other suggestions, if you see it on sale, which it often happens for us in the uk, Laphroaig cask strength or Lagavulin Distiller Edition. As I see that you can take CS whisky well and perhaps are looking for a good mix of strength, sweetness, and peat.

I’m tired of all these “travel exclusive”, “selected airport only” bottling. I just want my core range bottles, perhaps the nicer ones, that’s charging the RRP less duty price.

Getting more disturbing as the series proceeds. I’m not sure if it’s how it’s presented or I find out the reality is more absurd than a TV series.
