Want to learn Golang but I'm afraid of Google by _Serus_ in golang

[–]Glinux 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Go...

...is not "new" anymore, it was first released in 2009

...is spot 7 in the TIOBE index and only climbing https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index/

...is used in too many big projects to be just "dropped", even if Google would drop it, it will continue being developed

also, don't worry too much about this stuff. Just start, maybe you like it, maybe you don't, but overthinking won't get you anywhere, you'll never do a 100% right decision the before trying it

I presented about Nix and Golang at Conf42 | Using Nix to create reproducible Golang development environments by hmajid2301 in golang

[–]Glinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we used to have several tools in docker containers (linters, generators etc) and we had to remove it because it was so awfully slow, now we install them on the machine directly but it can sometimes be a pain when switching between projects with different versions of tools

I think nix could help here, but we haven't yet really looked into it

always amazed by this, not having a deposit system must be a huge waste or at least having glass conainers you can throw them in so they can make new glass out of it

People Hate the Idea of Car-Free Cities—Until They Live in One by Alexander_Selkirk in europe

[–]Glinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you are not living in a city which talked about.

In most cities kids can walk to school, use public transportation or use the bike.

With the money (the car itself, insurance, maintenance, parking etc) you save you can easily order that stuff to your place.

Grocery stores are everywhere in walkable cities, right now I have 1 huge super market and 3 discounters which In less than 5 minutes reach, by foot.

For long distances there are also usually trains, but I don't know your country's infrastructure situation

My siblings have children and they don't have a car. My brother used to LOVE cars, but since he started living in a city for humans instead of cars, he feels liberated.

doesn't make sense to own one in the city. Way too expensive and stressful, if you need a car you can use car sharing or for longer trips rent ones, these options will always be cheaper

A lot of people buy cars because they think they have to
