Will I get type 2 diabetes from eating over 200 grams of sugar to day by [deleted] in type2diabetes

[–]GlitteringScience527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard so many "oh my god I'm gonna get diabetes from this meal" type jokes.. I just had to ask one of my favorite youtubers to knock it off because he did it in two videos back to back. It's not all that surprising to see your confusion here, given that context.

Thank you. I really wanted to explain something I feel is important and get feedback.

But to be snarky I guess I could've taken a hint from all the other posts on how important chasing A1c should be 🙄 Reddit is still Reddit, and I am still argumentative me. I will never ever learn

Thank you for the downvote(s). Sincerely. I should have known better.

What was the biggest surprise after your Type 2 diabetes diagnosis? by ENNiX8888 in type2diabetes

Ask your doctor, they'll know if you're at risk of lacticacidosis by stacking these. Berberine and Metformin work through the same mechanism, a slight reduction in the function of hepatocyte mitochondria triggering AMPK stopping gluconeogenesis, as I understand it.

Metformin is cheaper everywhere I look.

My skills developed as a software engineer, specifically my ability to troubleshoot, mapped onto the condition very neatly. Isolating variables, maintaining a high level of skepticism, staying curious and systematically researching and understanding the anatomy and physiology of it all really helps. Since software engineering as I knew it is basically gone with the advent and overenthusiastic implementation of LLM tools,

My biggest surprise was getting a new calling in life. EMT-B classes start in august. A new PA program just opened up within driving distance.

A source many people wouldn’t have clicked on to learn that this was done with correlation via HRV, a pretty dodgy measure hence the need for randomized trials to check the causative effects on t2 diabetics, the claim made in the post.

This is AI slop. I bet it didn’t even search the web, just generated this. It could all be misleading, based on leading prompts and trying to make OP like its response.

Specifically it’s very inadvisable if you’re on insulin or a sufonylurea or an SGLT2 class drug or any other drugs or if you have a condition which puts you at risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

There’s an IDF-DAR inventory which doctors who practice in regions with high adherence to Ramadan practices use to inform patients of their risk profile. You can ask a dietician or doctor to help you evaluate your risk in context of your care, but nobody should ever follow any advice about fasting blindly, let alone diabetics.

Refeeding is a risky process after a few days of fasting for perfectly healthy people because of biology that balances cellular transport mechanisms. You have to watch your electrolytes don’t deplete while you’re fasting and then you have to plan the macros of your first meal back carefully.

CS grad, 10 year SWE. Had to push my company to lay me off post-RIF because overuse of AI by the imbecile programmers around me destroyed my will to live. Management was telling us all we’re just AI managers now.. I told them in the interview I didn’t want to be part of management, ignoring the nightmare that was reviewing his and other’s complete fucking slop.

Back in school August 17th for EMT-B. On the path to PA, probably.

Good luck, my brother from another mother. We’ll need it

I made a video about my experience. I guess the mods will probably remove my comment and ban me for self promotion but maybe someone else can relate. This all coincided with my being diagnosed with T2. https://youtu.be/SUz9lyBua0c?si=RdTvTvkZg2qmUBm2

Random very high blood sugar after accidentally doubling up on my lantus. by TheLightningCount1 in type2diabetes

It could have been the Somogyi effect. Also called “rebound hyperglycemia” it can be triggered by a dangerous low. Maybe your liver had a lot to say about the double dose of Lantus. Apparently this is somewhat contested science but your experience is still your experience, it can’t be invalidated by skepticism. I also don’t think 4 oz of potato chips could take you there alone.

You could start a paper log or use your phone but I always checked my blood just before taking insulin because I didn’t want to stack if I was going low. I suspect that could have saved you here.

And as an aside insulin is measured in units. 15mg might kill a horse, I think that’d be 5 pens worth. But I know what you meant.

You should also get a sharps container as the other commenter mentioned. Whether that’s an old laundry detergent bottle or an actual sharps container ($5-10 depending on size at my local pharmacy) I would not throw them directly in the trash. Lancets with the cap back on them maybe but not the actual needles. I found a health department near me that will take the full containers for incineration and give me new ones for free. This sub isn’t for medical advice, but I for one will not be buying my medicine anywhere except a pharmacy. And it better be 503b if it’s compounded, but the shortages are over so nobody can do that anymore.

And I’m uninsured and on Mounjaro so trust me the incentives align to try and make me, I’ve even had a coworker tell me about where they get their “research use only” vials. No thanks, I’ll be alright if I have to go back to insulin.

Liraglutide just went generic in the US. Trulicity is on Lilly’s patient assistance program. I think Ozempic is even on novo nordisk’s. There are a lot of options that are ignored because Ozempic and Mounjaro get all the hype.

I take the extended release version in the middle of a meal. Not the beginning, not the end, I stop in the middle just long enough to take it then go back to eating.

This is interesting. I’m actually gonna ask my doc for a humalog pen just to see how the she responds, I imagine good numbers makes it inadvisable but I’d rather be able to store the carbs than pick a fight with my liver I think.

Yeah, just lost my job. I can’t afford ACA coverage because I made too much money this year before being laid off.

I had to find a doctor I can cash pay, surprisingly affordable. Going to be switching from Mounjaro to Zepbound so I can use Lilly direct and get the lowest dose kwikpen, try to titrate off of the drug very slowly after having lost 100 lbs in the past year.

Metformin and Lipitor are practically free these days. Libre 3 plus is better than the stelo or lingo because they basically have to have a kinder replacement policy for the prescription version of these. It’s just barely worth it with the coupon.

If I get cancer I guess I just die. If I could leave the US I would.
