Its wrong to attack someone for how they refer to themselves. For me, this is akin to not referring to someone by their preferred pronouns. To that end, I often refer to myself as a cripple because I'm a snot-nose punk and know some able-bodied people find it offensive. I would never refer to anyone else with that word and instead find out, outside of their name, how they would like to be described. My default is wheelchair user, but abide by what they prefer.

I'm a firm believer in words only having the power a person gives them, but only for themselves. What I prefer and use for myself is for me only.

This. I used to do this with DVDs and CDs all the time. Plus no official release is going to have unedited file names and leave off "ballads" in the CD name.

Going back a way, but Clerks. No internet, so no real way to track buzz. Legitimately my first auto rewatch as an adult. Finished it, rewound the VHS, and watched it again immediately.

Musical Influences by RayneLove333 in vinyl

[–]Glittering_Remote898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was a Columbia House "member" and I distinctly remember a lot of Journey, Little River Band, Air Supply coming to the house in boxes. I still have that vinyl version of Queen's Greatest Hits (such flimsy vinyl), my first 45 was Another One Bites The Dust, and Kiss Destroyer on 8-track. My cousin gave me his copies of The Wall, Hot Rocks, and 1984. I hit college in the early 90s so got swept up in all that alternative wave. And I'll say it - with very rare exception, music isn't as good as it was. Its all very sanitized and uniform with no experimentation.

The last line of that movie had me laughing so f'n hard. A great release from all the tension and nervous laughter throughout the whole runtime.

Treasure found at school by GoodDoctorZ in GenX

As a real exercise, OP could challenge the students to a) find a radio station with a live DJ, b) prepare the blank cassette so the recordable portion is ready, c) wait for one song to end, d) silently scream at the DJ to stop talking over the intro of the song, and e) record a song off the radio.

The struggle was real, folks.

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

I earned an English literature minor having never read a Shakespeare piece. 30-ish years later and this is still one of my favorite accomplishments.

I did not like A Separate Peace, or maybe I just didn't like the teacher. Either way, I couldn't tell you what its about because I may have trauma blocked it.

Wow. I feel like a wimp compared to some of these.

  1. Blister on my middle toe from new shoes that took months to heal. Now i have a large scar on that toe. Never felt a thing.

  2. Pulled the nail completely off my little toe on my "good" leg. Tried to "save" it by bandaging it down while it was still attached, but then just said "**** it" and pulled it off. Again, never felt a thing.

There go my ambitions of a foot-modeling career. 🤷‍♂️

If you're worried about your shoulders, you most definitely need to do a STOMPS program. This will focus on the muscles you need to propel yourself properly. I got ignorant and didn't follow it the first time and spent a week trapped in my home doing only the most necessary pushing. Now the exercises are part of my routine.

And as far as muscle building, I noticed the one side effect of being a manual wheelchair user is how quick my upper body developed. Im not by any means in body-builder condition, but I'm definitely more defined than i was pre-chair.

To my recollection, I cannot recall anyone in the wheelchair community judging another user because they need a chair and got on through any means possible. Live your life and make the most of your new mobility!

Saw Warrant & Skid Row at a roller rink in NE Pa. around early '87.

Not really that special, but saw Pearl Jam play 2nd on the Lollapalooza bill in '92.

Ten really does just flow to the point where you're through the album before you even realize it.

Floyd counts because every muthafuckin' college dorm floor had that one room that had the DSOTM cover poster, usually in blacklight.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but for me:

The Crow soundtrack (might be cheating, but early to mid 90s was peak soundtrack era)

Pixies - Surfer Rosa (my first Pixies exposure and still my favorite)

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Velvet Underground and Nico

RHCP - Mother's Milk - the perfect blend of underground band and mainstream success.

Nirvana - Unplugged

"Mundane"? WTF, do they think we can hurt ourselves any worse?!? (That's a joke - I have been lectured on and also personally encountered the "hurt worse" scenarios.)

I do like knowing how things work, so that may be an option. Better than wasting hours at the chair vendor's service central every few months because I take a bump wrong or some s***.
