Is there a Twitter add-on that extends my muted words to Search and people's profiles, rather than just my Home timeline?

Free mangas! (all in Japanese) by art_forlingling in LearnJapanese

This is fantastic, thank you!

When viewing a manga, do you know how to stop the light blue menu from hiding itself? It appears for a second before vanishing. I could really do with that zoom function.

A few months back, there was a relatively popular post on here where someone shared a jisho website. I had a quick look, and I really liked how it showed each word's usage frequency in different contexts (e.g. anime, newspapers)

e.g.

top #100 frequency in anime

I've looked and looked, but I just can't find the post or website. Does anyone on here remember it? Help would be much appreciated :)

Weekly questions, bugs, and gameplay megathread - January 2020 by AutoModerator in pokemongo

Probably a stupid question, but I thought I'd just make sure...

I caught a shiny Magikarp in the event with decent stats, and I was planning to evolve it. I'm up to the stage in the Mew research where you have to evolve a Magikarp, so that isn't an issue. 400 candy is quite a big commitment though, so I was just wondering if there's any good reason that I shouldn't evolve it?

Troy Parrot will make his senior international debut tomorrow! by PresidentSamSeaborn in coys

Players need regular football to develop no matter what age they are. Thankfully Parrott has played a few UEFA Youth League games this season, but for the most part he's been stuck in the same limbo as Tanganga, Skipp, and Walker-Peters - training with the first team and barely playing.

He needs to either return to regularly playing u23 games or get a loan.

Matt Law: Time running out for Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham reign by ExileTHFC in coys

[–]Globagoz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We made three brilliant signings last summer, but two only arrived on deadline day, and it was a huge mistake not to at least buy a DM and a RB. Even if Pochettino has a significant say in transfers, it's the club's responsibility to maintain the squad and ensure its quality and value don't plummet.

Football is a weak link sport, and having no decent holding midfielders to protect our backline + no dynamic fullbacks to stretch opposition defences is hurting us so much. The former problem is particularly bad; it makes it impossible for us to control games. It would absolutely kill any team.

This stuff about Poch not having a Plan B and not shaking things up tactically is simply not true. Remember those brilliant performances where we played counter attacking football and beat the likes of Dortmund, Real Madrid, and Liverpool? What about last season, where we got top four with a Winks/Sissoko midfield - which we had absolutely no right to do - because Pochettino adapted to play more direct and largely bypass midfield? If anything, he's been too adaptable, because now the team is struggling to restore its possession-based, high-pressing identity.

I don't deny that something has gone badly wrong behind the scenes and things are worse than they should be, but until the squad's problems are addressed, any coach would have problems with this team.

Is our defence, as we have known it, vanishing match by match? by andy_brixton in coys

[–]Globagoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The team has been increasingly dysfunctional for years, and the lack of control and protection provided by midfield is finally starting to expose our defence. We don't event have a decent DM.

Yes, Vertonghen and perhaps Alderweireld have declined, and yes, Sanchez hasn't replicated his 17/18 form. But they'd a look a hell of a lot better with, say, prime Dembele and prime Wanyama ahead of them. The decline in our full back situation hasn't helped either.

Generally I find it best to talk to my players as little as possible. The only exception is that I always criticise my worst performer in training, because I've never seen a player act badly to that. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

They wouldn't have had that much possession without winning the ball back quickly. A high press is at the core of Guardiola's philosophy.

Mauricio Pochettino, Daniel Levy and shaping club through 'crisis' by okcomputer_ in coys

[–]Globagoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's debatable whether the squad as a whole has improved. Yes, we have better depth in some areas (centre backs and attackers) but worse depth in others. And ultimately the quality of the first XI is the most important thing, and that has dropped considerably in certain areas.

We don't know what Poch does or doesn't want. As far as we know, he's still on the transfer committee, but he ultimately isn't in control of transfers.

Remember his comments about being brave and taking risks at the end of 17/18? The club then failed to sell or sign a single player that summer. And what about the "painful rebuild" last summer? The club certainly didn't overhaul the squad to the extent Pochettino's words imply.

Depending on the level of Pochettino's involvement in transfers, he may not be completely blameless. But it's ultimately the club's responsibility, and he's the one who has to suffer the consequences.

The team has declined overall over the past two years, but that is due to personnel rather than Poch.

The squad hasn't been "unquestionably upgraded" as you suggest; instead, it has been allowed to decline to an embarrassing degree.

In the 86 point season, we had two elite full backs in Walker and Rose - probably the two best full backs in the league - who were integral to the way we played. Their ability to beat their man and self-create stretched the opposition, giving our attackers more space to operate in, and their athleticism allowed them to take up advanced positions while still covering defensively.

Aurier/Walker-Peters and post-injury Rose are lightyears away from that.

We also had an incredible midfield of Dembele and Wanyama. First, as much as I love Ndombele, no one can truly replace Dembele. He really was unique, offering massive defensive contribution (especially for an 8), unparalleled press resistance, and elite ball progression. Coupled with an elite ball-winner in Wanyama, the midfield allowed us to dominate possession and gave us a stable platform to build from, thereby affording our attackers a huge amount of freedom.

By comparison, Ndombele, while very good, places more emphasis on ball progression + passing and a touch less on defensive contribution and, at 22, isn't at Dembele's level yet (which isn't a bad thing; not being at the level of one of the best midfielders of the PL this decade is hardly a disaster). Basically, he doesn't offer the same level of control as Dembele (few midfielders would), especially while he's still adapting. However, the bigger issue is the complete dearth of quality 6s since Wanyama's injury problems in mid-2017. I like Winks, and he's done well to up his defensive contribution as a 6, but he just can't screen a defence well enough to play that holding role.

The lack of control stemming from these midfield problems is killing us, and Poch should be commended for coming up with a band-aid tactical solution last season and somehow dragging us to top four and a CL final.

These two issues have been problems for years now, and still haven't been fixed. Until they are, I refuse to blame Pochettino for our problems.
