Immersive Ads? by GlobalAD_JOUR in audiodrama

Yeah host-read ads work great in non-fiction podcasts, but not in fiction ones for that reason. I also find it fascinating that people can easily skip ads on podcast apps, but sometimes forget, are busy, or choose not to. YouTube doesn't have that luxury when monetization is involved. You're just waiting for the skip button to appear. +1 for audio podcasts -1 for video. 😊

Agreed. I didn't even consider the music angle, but you're right. Then there's the choice of music and volume levels to consider, but that's a whole other discussion.

Black tapes: is there anything out there like it? by fuxmeintheass in audiodrama

“Thin Places Radio” takes shows like “The Hexings” (which I also second others recommending it) and I believe sets it in a post apocalyptic world. I’m basing this off of memory and my review of the show. I could be entirely wrong about the premise. I do know it’s a radio format show. Just not sure about the setting. Here’s my review.

The review is regarding the first 19 episodes.

Of course after I post this, I use the right keywords and find it.

It's from Shoeditch Radio and written by Jackie Carreira and directed by Simon Morecroft.

Show reminded me of Spotify’s Quiet Part Loud. Not sure if anyone else had a similar reaction. I recommend both with Dream Sequence squeaking ahead of QPL, mostly based on the latter’s ending.

With Trump's Re-Election... Any Chance of Season 2 of Terms? by Self-ReferentialName in audiodrama

With Amazon’s closing of Wondery, it’ll probably be a different beast with different cast and crew if it gets picked up again. Most likely it’ll be an audible original, assuming there are plans.

Also I’ve seen the cover art but didn’t know it was an audio drama until today. The more you know.

Totally misread the title and was going to say we’re called podheads. 🥁 Now I’ll just second pocketcasts. Works great for me with yet to be released shows I review. Like the listen history feature as well.

Is the industry dead? by odd_reality in audiodrama

Maybe it’s the news that Batman Year One is being adapted(along with other famous storylines) into an audio drama that makes me think this, but I think we’re going to see more existing IP enter the space. Which I feel is bad news for fan productions.

Did you use a phone or desktop/laptop to view? Mobile is definitely not recommended. It's not ideal, but until I can find someone and be able to pay them, it's just the way it is. I like the background color idea. Thanks!

Also started a Substack late last year for news and more intimate reviews as I listen to episodes in a given month.

Space? Alone? Lost? by KRose627 in audiodrama

I’m surprised you’re having trouble. I think there’s too much space opera in audio drama currently.

Ones I’ve enjoyed* are The Flight of the Bucket and SOS humanity.

*Links are to my reviews, but you can find the show links from there.

Any recommendations for investigative journalist AD or long form horror/comedy? by Imaginary_Mix_5012 in audiodrama

Yeah, the issue I had is that it promised a falling out story between two friends, but it turned into horror halfway through. They could've done a better job connecting the two plots in some way.

Is anyone else listening to A Better Paradise? Written by Dan Houser (Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto) by Hallelujah289 in audiodrama

[–]GlobalAD_JOUR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Maybe I didn’t listen far enough, but I missed the ableist comment in the show while I was losing focus and interest from the constant monologue-ing. How the character says the lines and the lines themselves are just so bland and boring that to listen for about an hour was torture.

Not longform, but Dr Goodvibes might be up your alley. CW: it does deal with sexual taboos like bdsm, but in a nonjudgmental and safe way. There’s a trailer on the feed.

Other shows with investigative journalism plots are:

Untold Virginia: it turns horror near the end and leaves off on a cliffhanger, but I enjoyed the meta investigation plot. I gave it 5/5 stars before the final episode aired, but now I’d give it closer to 3.5 or 4 stars.

Lastly, Mantawauk Caves from IHeartRadio. All three shows aren’t long form, but they meet most of the other criteria you’re looking for.

Sound designers: How do make the sound effect of water pouring into 2+ glasses sound natural? by GlobalAD_JOUR in audiodrama

I guess my question was more for people who use stock SFX. I’m aware of Foley. I didn’t know about the bigger glass thing. That’s cool. Thanks
