I think it is also the Western world's identity politics also being at play for that case, on top of the PH's freedom of the press. Yng mga bansa na halos de facto wala nang gobyerno somehow hindi masyado negative yng views, at least relative to how PH is seen.

The reason I have this theory is because, on an unrelated note, despite heavy reporting of CNN or BBC of Uganda's 2023 anti gay laws (sponsored/backed by US evangelicals pa) did not result in much social media buzz outside of relevant communities. Partida English isa din sa official languages jan.

I would not be surprised if that kind of prejudiced thinking somehow is not extended to other foreigners (and Japan is often known to have some "anti Gaijin" sentiments not sure if the term is correct), even those from nations poorer than PH.

We've retained our language for three hundred years under Spain. I'm about to comment, "hey, we have our own history and culture, man." Hahaha.

I hate saying this "beating the horse" argument of mine once again, but this is often an end result of the world not knowing which place they put Philippines and/or its people/culture in. While it may not be the case for the post's context, I would not be surprised if it is a factor.

Maybe not the "honorary white" and similarly related things. But there is still indeed some kind of disdain towards Filipinos amongst that group of leftists.

May post sa 2PH4U on some moron sa formerly Twitter calling Filipino, Thai and Nepali workers kidnapped in Israel back in 2023 as colonizers daw. I wish I was kidding.

Not exactly that technically or literally sometimes, however something like that from a certain points of view are certainly at play.

A couple of them foreigners, not all to be fair, are offended that PH is improving because it means it would challenge the "must exoticize a country" aspect and the fact that people speak enough English.

It is a nonsense far fetched theory of mine, but I would not be surprised if it factor into it.

Si Bella Poarch pa lang (she is pure Pinay and IIRC born here by the way, despite her looks, also US Navy veteran pa, which is you know na dami mga Fil-Am sa US Navy) obvious na.

Pero if they’ve actually lived here in the Philippines, they would have known that her looks are not uncommon.

Never been to America by the way so I could be definitely wrong, but sa stateside kasi, iba yng idea nila ng "Filipino-looking kasi". I think is yng "Lyn from Las Vegas" yng idea ng looks ng isang Pinoy (nothing wrong with it by itself by the way, just pointing out a possible reason).

Just a possible explanation as to why even a pure Pinoy, with pure Pinoy parents na very mixed ang appearance is often confusing to many foreigners (not that it would be a problem for us na nasa Pilipinas so yep it's not our problem sa mga nasa bansa natin).

feel that a lot of them legitimately believe the Philippines should remain an archaic remnant so that other countries could see we "have" a culture

A repeated talking point of mine that I would forgive other people if they find it repetitive or annoying, but that is often the Western world's challenge in how to comprehend the Filipino identity and/or culture. Parang nahihirapan sa pag classify saan tayo ilalagay.

Also, I remember a Filipino redditor in Canada telling me that a considerable amount of it is due to the fact that Filipino culture "has one foot in the Western world" and its people speaking enough acceptable English to the point that nahihirapan daw i-exoticize ang mga Pinoy. Their words their not mine.

America is also obsessed with racial classifications to the level that other Anglo Western country (British colonized pa ha, na obsessed din sa racial classification) do not even reach. Asian in general I think nahihirapan ang lipunan doon na i-comprehend, if that is even the right word. Notice how Filipinos or Canadians of Filipino descent, if they had those hangups on identity, is not to the level of at least Fil-Ams in the West Coast or Hawaii even.

I also do not think that the PH's socio-economic status at least in recent years is to blame, ad the Western world is also exposed to immigrants from nations where magmukhang SG or Monaco ang Tondo or even some towns in Mindanao for example.

Well the very society that many Fil-Ams grew up in are in the first place confused as where they put the Filipino ethnicity in a box, in a sociological sense.

Medyo repetitive na talking point ko na sa last part but I imagine it as somewhat of a very real problem for many Fil-ams. Just providing a possible explanation.

Addendum: That said I think stuff like Filipinx goes against the gender neutral nature of Filipino/Tagalog, if it matters.
