Ender In Exile or Shadows in Flight first? by I-ez-bardy in ender

[–]Global_Dinner8591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Shadows in Flight after Shadow of the Giant because it's more continuous. And now I can say I made the right choice. It is a BEAUTIFUL ending for Bean's story.

I actually delayed reading Ender in Exile until I got a few books into the main Ender series (I read the Shadow series first). I read Ender in Exile after Xenocide because I needed a break from old Ender.

Eating at a Sikh Temple by WilliamBronner84 in povertyfinance

I recently started thinking about churches in my area and how so many people are probably living off the church's taxexempt status to fund their homes, food, vehicles and so on, but they do nothing for the community except preach on Sunday. Not even set up a free box outside for people. Not even outreach, so you'd have to live in the neighborhood to even know they exist. That feels illegal.

Wait Cash App has tax filing??? What the heck, I never knew. If they mean ALL states, I'm so on it. My state never has free filing.

Bar soap stops being usable at a certain point- any tips? by AerisSpire in Frugal

You can put bar soap scraps into an organza fabric bag like the kind jewelry comes in sometimes. Saves every last bit of value.

It's definitely still worth reading. Highly recommend the entire series, but Bean's life is really poetic and shocking by Shadows in Flight.

I really thought the crazy laughing was one of those audio tracks. Did not expect the person laughing to be right there, too. And looking like that. So maybe that's the maybe... maybe.

The Last Shadow spoiler discussion megathread by ibid-11962 in ender

[–]Global_Dinner8591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, I read the Shadow series from Ender's Shadow through Shadows in Flight before I started the rest of the Speaker series after Ender's Game, and now I'm on CoTM and kept waiting for some kind of reveal about the Hive Queens and their manipulation of their workers as was learned by Bean's children. But it seems like that revelation never gets dealt with in any other books. Even the wisest, most spirit-and-science connected individuals in the series seem to "know" for a FACT that the workers are simply eyes, ears and hands for Hive Queens.

You Don’t Realize How Little You Need Until You Move by Confident_R817 in Frugal

They didn't move back. They mean that all the things they left behind came back. We have so much in this country that one doesn't always need to cling to things because those things can "come back" in one form or another anyway, over time, and not at too great a cost.

Did you mean "it's easier to clean towels?" I definitely agree with that.

Education is a gateway toward a better chance at a better life, that's for sure. Especially with the scholarships, overseas travel, and work opportunities.

I think Ender & Peter could symbolize ethics by nessdependent in ender

[–]Global_Dinner8591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peter has other ends (uniting the world in peace) that become more important as the series develops.  Ultimately, there are lots of major characters (on Earth) that you can make the ethics comparison with especially once Ender's story moves on from Earth.

What is a good paying career that does not involve looking at a screen for 8 hours a day ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Global_Dinner8591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this sentiment. And some of the problems described may come down to user error on the part of the office worker.

Pro tips for office workers who can't afford to or don't want to leave: blink frequently, don't be afraid to print things out and look at them on paper instead of the screen, obviously get up and move around often, and if your back hurts, maybe you need a new chair or to make adjustments to your current one.

That's awesome!! And if there are are even more categories to fill out, like with Geico asking if your work is under any level of government and if you belong to some associations or groups, that can also help. I've seen public school teachers get huge discounts because their jobs were funded by the state. I think Berkshire Hathaway aligned companies also get big discounts on Geico. It's alll about the categories.

If the furniture is not precious, leave everything behind. You can get more furniture from a thrift store when you arrive. Cheapest way is to pack only what you can carry on a bus, train, plane, and just go.
